My Werewolf System

Chapter 1767  One Of Us

It was quite clear to them all, just by watching the way the captured Werewolf aggressively acted even while completely immobilized, that these creatures were fundamentally unresponsive.

There wasn’t a single coherent word coming out of its snapping jaws. During the brief scuffle, Gary, even while aggressively beating them down into the concrete, had desperately tried to get them to say something, to show a spark of intelligence.

But they werenʼt speaking a single word. They only offered guttural, wet growls and rabid snarls, acting exactly as if they really were some type of mindless Zombie Werewolf driven only by an insatiable hunger.

Still, the group watched as Haylock stepped forward, using even more of his razor-sharp red strings to tie up the feral Werewolf. He layered the pressurized blood magic over and over, wrapping the beast up tightly until it looked like it was trapped in some type of morbid, crimson mummy cocoon.

With a casual flick of his wrist, Haylock pulled the heavy creature away from the concrete pillar. He was effortlessly holding the massive beast suspended up in the air by just a few attached strings linked directly to his pale fingers.

“You guys can just stay here in the dark for a moment,” Rowa commented, dusting off his immaculate suit. “We are going to go outside and get some real answers from our new friend here.”

“Wait, what?” Kai asked, stepping forward with his brow deeply furrowed. “Why are you heading off on your own and isolating yourselves away from us? I thought we formed an alliance and were doing this mission together. Is there something specific about this process you want to hide?”

Rowa smiled, exposing his elongated fangs in the dim light.

“Well, yes. We will generously share the information we gather from it, of course,” Rowa said smoothly. “But you see, the specific method we use for interrogation is rather... secretive to our families. So we highly hope you understand our need for a little privacy.”

They didn’t really give any time for Kai or the others to refute the blatant excuse. With a blur of supernatural speed, the three Vampire Leaders had already left the underground area, dragging the cocooned beast behind them into the shadows.

“Do you want me to follow them quietly?” Luzen asked in a hushed whisper, his hand resting on his bowstring. “I can stay out of their sight and listen in.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Gary answered, shaking his head slowly. “If you were caught spying on them right after we agreed to a truce, I imagine it’s just going to give us a much bigger headache than it’s worth.”

Besides avoiding a diplomatic disaster, their sudden departure actually gave the Howlers a rare chance to talk freely amongst each other without the vampires constantly listening in. More importantly, Gary urgently wanted a moment of uninterrupted silence to check something that had been nagging at the back of his mind.

Outside of the claustrophobic car park, and having traveled far enough away so the sensitive ears of the Werewolves wouldnʼt be able to hear their conversation, the three vampires finally placed the struggling Glutton Werewolf down onto the cracked pavement.

“I specifically tied up the one with the least amount of unfavorable features, let’s call it,” Haylock commented, looking down at the squirming cocoon. “I imagine its slightly more natural Werewolf anatomy means that this one was turned into whatever this monster is much later than the others we killed. The fresher the transformation, the more chance there is for things to actually work.”

“Are you absolutely sure this will even work?” Jin asked skeptically, crossing his arms as Rowa was already moving his hand towards the writhing body of the creature. “I already captured and questioned one of them, and the results were not good, It was a mindless beast to the end.”

“You should know by now that my powers work fundamentally differently than the mere parlor tricks of that woman,” Rowa answered, a hint of arrogance in his voice. “That woman from the Bree family you used could only temporarily suppress the physical change that was actively happening in the body. But in the end, the subject was still the exact same corrupted monster inside, just with its physical powers violently suppressed. It retained no sanity.”

Rowa’s eyes began to glow with a deep, mesmerizing crimson light.

“What I will be doing right now is entirely different. As long as the initial infection hasn’t been settling in the host for too long, I will be physically and temporally reversing the biological process itself. And then, once the mind is restored, we can politely ask the person inside all the questions we want.”

“That’s assuming they will willingly answer you. You forgot about that crucial part,” Haylock said, leaning against a rusted car. “There are two major things we need to consider regarding our interrogation. If this specific creature was a natural-born Werewolf for a long time, and then turned into whatever this mutated thing is, you know our vampiric hypnotic influence doesnʼt work too well on their kind. They have a natural mental resistance.”

Haylock pointed a finger at the beast. “However, if they were just an ordinary human before being infected and turning into this... then you can easily use your influence to break their mind and ask him all the questions you want without resistance.”

“Right, right,” Rowa sighed, rolling his eyes. “I understand the nuances of our own powers, Haylock. There is absolutely no need to lecture me like a fledgling.”

Rowa knelt down and placed his bare hand directly onto the exposed flesh of the Werewolf. The beast was violently struggling and thrashing against the blood strings, but the moment Rowaʼs glowing aura washed over it, its massive body was physically starting to shrink.

At the exact same time the bones were cracking and resizing, the deep, lethal wounds that had been caused by the vampiresʼ blood swipes earlier started to visibly disappear on its body, the flesh knitting itself backward in time.

The terrifying, monstrous strength that it possessed was rapidly starting to fade away. The hulking being was painfully turning from a crazed, mutated Werewolf right back into the frail form of a normal human man.

“I guess we are finally going to get some real answers,” Rowa said, smiling down at the gasping, bewildered human lying on the pavement.

Meanwhile, back in the gloomy depths of the underground parking lot, the Howlers couldnʼt help but continue to stare in silence at the horrific scene in front of them.

The smell of copper and rot was suffocating. The dead, decapitated Werewolves they had just slain lay scattered around the massive pile of half-eaten human bodies. A profound part of them desperately wanted to leave this subterranean graveyard as soon as possible; they didnʼt know how much longer they could stand to stay there without losing their lunches.

That’s when Kai, glancing over to check on his Alpha, could see that Gary was standing perfectly still, completely unresponsive, just staring blankly off into empty space.

“Gary? What’s wrong?” Kai asked, his voice echoing slightly. He knew that look. Gary was interacting with the interface only he could see.

“I was checking my System,” Gary answered, his voice barely above a hollow whisper. His face had gone deathly pale. “I had this terrible, sinking feeling that something was up the moment we engaged them.”

Gary slowly turned his head to look at the mutilated bodies of the Glutton Werewolves they had just violently killed with their own hands.

“When looking through the organized list of all of the Werewolves that are officially part of our Pack, I had made a mental note of the total number before we came down here... and now, checking it again, it’s lessened.”

Gary swallowed hard, a look of absolute horror washing over his eyes.

“It could just be a terrible coincidence happening elsewhere while we were fighting... but I have a sickening feeling that one of the mindless werewolves we just took care of... was a member from our missing Strike Force.”
