Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1111: Chapter 1109: Dragon Summit Inn (33)

He truly is a principled young man!

Even quite proactive.

He not only resisted the temptation of the Transcendent’s path for himself but also resorted to bloodshed to prevent others from making the same mistake.

Right or wrong aside, out of the many Oath Takers, he is certainly one with the strongest spirit of rebellion.

This is for the best, as far as vows go, I just happen to need such a conversational partner.

Without a sense of awe, some descriptions become more objective.

Watching Sunny’s nodding in agreement, Fu Qian showed a face full of admiration.

“I think just like those two deceased in the inn, the cases where their heads were lost due to the Soul Butterfly’s deception were also your doing, right?”

“Correct.”

Having revealed her biggest secret, Sunny clearly had no intention to conceal anything further.

“What you were really closely watching is actually this point—the one deceived by the Soul Butterfly doesn’t die, but can even become an Angel Envoy.”

“Considering their numbers, this is a path that is quite easy to discover. That ancient deity is very eager to spread the faith.”

“And you single-handedly convinced everyone that the only outcome of complete bewitchment is death.”

“I can imagine how arduous that was.”

“Simply creating a dangerous atmosphere isn’t sufficient; there will always be someone who unknowingly falls prey, so I had to do it.”

“Fortunately, they were rather cautious, making it possible for me to monitor them.”

Sunny said quietly.

“Even under those circumstances, you still refused to harvest the umbilical cord.”

Fu Qian clicked his tongue as he spoke.

“The Ancient Dragons disappeared, growing tails behind; you are truly wronged.”

“Those things too? So the timing was coincidentally perfect.”

Fu Qian’s comment brought a strong shock to Sunny, and based on the exchange they already had, she could no longer ignore his opinion.

Fu Qian hummed.

“Being favored without contributing, even obstructing the development of newcomers, any measures are justifiable for such a traitor, right? What do you think the descent of blessings is for? Benefitting all living beings?”

“I just think… that will is from far too ancient a time, perhaps only a wisp of remnant thought remains, and it may not have a very clear will.”

“The remnant instincts of a Superior Being could accomplish much more than you can imagine.”

Fu Qian shared some of his insights as well.

“…You’re right, it seems I am truly detestable.”

Sunny even went as far as to mock herself for a brief moment.

“Anyways, that’s my mental journey. Do you have anything else you want to ask?”

“Yes.”

Fu Qian stretched out two fingers decisively.

“First, as a follower, have you ever beheld the holy visage of that one?”

“En.”

Indeed lacking any reverence, I like it!

Fu Qian nodded in satisfaction.

“Describe it, in as much detail as possible.”

“…Actually, what I summoned just now was its shadow, just that it’s incomplete. Generally, it’s similar to the Ancient Dragon, except being a body of flesh and blood, coiled up completely still in an indescribable place, without any wounds, but its scales were so illusory that they’re almost invisible.”

Sunny described emotionlessly, then suddenly revealed a peculiar smile.

“How ironic, do you know? According to the records I’ve found, many became its believers, purportedly through the reflection of their own insignificance in the glow of its scales.”

The state is poor, even the scales on the body are very unreal.

Fu Qian pondered thoughtfully.

“You wouldn’t happen to have had a change of heart upon seeing the poor and sorrowful state of that one, would you?”

“Otherwise, I can hardly imagine a Transcendent being able to resist the temptation to ascend; the reasons ‘incomprehensible’ and ‘bizarre’ you mentioned earlier clearly aren’t convincing enough.”

“…What is your true purpose in coming here?”

This time, Sunny didn’t rush to respond and after quietly pondering for a few seconds, she squinted and counter-questioned with a differently determined tone.

“I have no interest in that Dragon King.”

Fu Qian looked as though he fully understood what she was concerned about and spoke without a trace of emotion.

“You saw its attitude towards me.”

… The Ancient Dragon appeared twice, both times attempting to kill this person.

That last sentence seemed to instantly persuade Sunny, causing her to let go of a kind of resolute desperation.

“Other than helplessly watching my own body become a Puppet… I can feel that the real me is also undergoing a fundamental change.”

“Distorting, deforming, merging into a whole in a special form—high and living, that is my essence.”

“I know there are lunatics who don’t mind this, and even yearn for it, but I can’t…”

Merging into a whole in a special form… Fu Qian’s gaze inadvertently glanced at the jigsaw puzzle on the ground.

Just in this short time, it had already dissipated beyond recognition.

Of course, Sunny hadn’t gathered this information when she summoned the deity to exhibit a state of madness just now.

“Were you worried just now that my intentions are related to that?”

“…I can feel that you’re a proud person, but I can’t think of any other reason.”

Sunny spoke with utmost seriousness.

“To you, the contents within, including the Ancient Dragon, should be insignificant.”

“Maintaining world peace, I’ve said it more than once.”

…

“Alright, the last question, are you relieved now?”

“No…”

Sunny sighed deeply without any attempt at concealment.

“I’ve imagined such an attempt more than once, but lacked the courage. The fact proves I’ve returned, but things are still different from before.”

“The connection still exists, I can feel it, diminished but it’s there.”

“To preserve world peace, are you planning on eliminating existences like me?”

Her tone was full of resignation, an undercurrent already overrunning the will to live.

“So you asking this, do you think you just chose a wrong answer?”

Laughing in a string of uncertain meaning, Fu Qian’s retort was exaggerated and provoking.

“…I just feel that, for me, all choices are really the same.”

Sunny subconsciously defended herself.

“Even if I hadn’t been discovered just now, how much longer could I have deceived?”

“What means would a mindless living corpse have to leave without arousing Siren’s suspicion after the blessing ends? Fleeing the Wasteland is even more impossible.”

“So you think this is a challenge that inevitably can’t be cleared? I find this insulting.”

Fu Qian uttered a sound of realization, his tone turning cold in a second.

“In my presence, how could there be such underhanded dealings.”

“But…”

Sunny stared at Fu Qian’s mask, her bewilderment undisguised.

“The time to reveal the outcome has come.”

Fu Qian pointed outside.

“I want you to go out now, find Siren’s people, find Kelson.”

…

The slightly ignited hope within Sunny was already shocked into speechlessness.

“Pass on a message to him for me.”
