Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1062: Chapter 1060: Shepherd God Prisoner Chapter 1062: Chapter 1060: Shepherd God Prisoner [Mission Evaluation: Shepherd God Prisoner]

When the concept of “self” resurfaced, Fu Qian was already sitting inside the warehouse.

Listening to the mission summary by his ear, he silently assessed this fresh sensation.

Indeed, it was a bit like the fragmentary feeling after a hangover, not even finding a prompt for task completion in his consciousness.

But these were trivial details, clearly, the hangover had been a grand success.

To truly awaken victorious after a good sleep!

“Your eyes will deceive you because you have yet to find the true eyes.

Even the Mortals have their own perspectives on that long night.

And Lawrence, who first proposed this idea, to validate his point, not only opened the cage that bound his thoughts above him but even dug out his own useless eyeballs with his hands.

In the end, freeing his self, he managed to glimpse a truly splendid corner of the world.

However, the Echo of knowledge just as recklessly twisted his limbs and even his self.

Lawrence had no regrets, and amidst endless struggles, before his own name completely dissipated, he found the right eyes and shared them with all Scholars.

And the Scholars didn’t disappoint him, swiftly devising a method to house his remains, so that in the long years to come, he could continue to crave and share knowledge in a special form.

Until one day, a taboo contamination from beyond the stars tainted him, leading to the interruption of this centuries-long research.

The surviving Scholars fled, each leaving their own set of philosophies for their disciples.

However, apart from the most conservative few, they all began to believe that the pursuit and application of knowledge were equally important, withering away in this new exploration.

It was years later that the long-forgotten history of the Holy Grail re-emerged in the dreams of a genius disciple.

This discovery filled him with ecstasy, deciding to restore the glory of the academy in the name of Sage.

Sadly, he was oblivious of the kind of monsters that the heretics he had cast aside called forth.

Their chase, brimming with delight, was destined to be thwarted by the sword of the Pure White Angel.

For unknowing is all-knowing, the Pure White Angel is unknowable, invisible, unstoppable, unborn, undying.

It is a void walking the earth, simply following an instinct that is unrecognized, disturbed by the Holy Grail’s change, so the Holy Grail must sleep again.

This time, the special paradox with the Pure White Angel will cause the Holy Grail to crumble in its slumber, leading to an irreversible tragedy.

It’s almost an insoluble dilemma, luckily your realization of this allows the Holy Grail to make the best choice using forbidden knowledge.”

[Kill Count: None]

[Reward: SAN Points +20, Blindsight]

[Current SAN Points: 116, Current Inspiration: 99]

[Play event recap?]

This entirely new approach to mission resolution is indeed likely to have the glory snatched away.

That unseen entity is called the Pure White Angel? From the summary, it sounds more like a walking Extraordinary Item than a creature.

For unknowing is all-knowing, unstoppable, unborn, undying… It seems as if by being blind oneself, one is invincible, and is it only supposed to be on the receiving end of cuts?

What kind of bug-like existence is this!

And those heretics who’ve summoned It, could they be referring to those from my own sect?

In the face of this detailed mission summary, Fu Qian was momentarily amazed.

However, it seems he’s gotten a clue as to why the warehouse suggested he should win by wit.

No matter how able he was to fight, facing an opponent who lacks a health bar yet can harm him, the chances of victory were indeed not high.

Even that prompt of mere eight words could be related to the unknowability of the Pure White Angel.

So the question arises, how did the Holy Grail manage to do it?

Without rush to check the rewards, Fu Qian directly chose to view the event recap to see his actions during the “hangover.”

Honestly, the feeling was quite strange, like watching a movie where you are the main character, and the key is, you don’t remember what was being filmed at all.

…

Including the Sage Old Master, the team members’ reactions did not veer much from expectations.

And with his own role as a tool person, the Holy Grail’s strategy became a bit more aggressive indeed.

It was as soon as Brother TP left the team, that he arranged for his own pointing out.

Fu Qian carefully observed every development post eye-removal, up until the moment he disappeared with the Holy Grail.

Different from the Heart Calamity on the glove, the team member code-named Echo, though his ability also inflicted mental torment, the backlash seemed to manifest physically.

It was because of this that, facing the “pursuit” of the zombified team members, his forced re-use of the ability in counter-attack turned him into a mass of pulped flesh, complicating the identification of actual contamination.

Then, under the guise of false visuals and his own dual misdirection, Shi Gaozhi acted even more decisively than before.

Quite the strategist.

Speaking of which, the team composition was also employed with much thought.

So far, none of the fodder that had taken action had a skill for direct killing.

Brother TP’s defensive Shield apart, both his own Heart Calamity and Echo’s ability affected the psyche.

Those able to damage and heal physically were amongst the three VIPs, who had even undergone specific mental resistance training.

Even the risks within the team had been minimized to the utmost!

Fu Qian couldn’t help but express his admiration.

But on the other hand, the Holy Grail’s arrangements were also quite precise; Shi Gaozhi, who had never revealed his ability, was always the one misled.

Could it be that even though it couldn’t directly replicate an unused skill, the Holy Grail could deduce the nature of the abilities by reading the patterns on the gear?

And this patient setting of the trap, the biggest change was the addition of himself as a second layer of insurance.

The temporarily deceived Sage got taken down by him again in a split second.

Without his presence, which made the team immune to illusions, all that awaited them was a fate of death if not for later developments.

Of course, it wasn’t Charlotte’s pair breaking through his Shield head-on; that scene was already seen thrice.

It was the Pure White Angel making a move at the opportunity, cunningly using him, the Holy Grail’s tool person, to die under a counterattack.

While still following the instinct to hide itself, It did not wait as before, until he entered the Bell Tower Hall, prepared to expose the Holy Grail below the Stars Association before acting.

Why?

In fact, this was the crux of the entire event, and the only priority conflict Fu Qian had worried about prior to becoming a tool person.

Surely a different variation had escalated the urgency for the Pure White Angel to strike him down—perhaps the addition of a tool person accelerated the awakening of the Holy Grail?

After all, following the path, the lines he used strangely fit his personal style.
