Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 984: Chapter 982: Night Shift Teaching Building Chapter 984: Chapter 982: Night Shift Teaching Building “Is there a situation?”

I must say, the building before me was quite different from what Fu Qian had imagined.

Although slightly old, dimly lit, and even creaky underfoot, the scent was surprisingly fresh, with no trace of sinister decay.

This naturally led Fu Qian to ask his question.

That is not Heaven’s Commencement Institute’s style at all. There’s something fishy when things are out of the ordinary, no matter which way you look at it.

“Let’s take a look.”

In response to his inquiry, President Cass did not directly deny it. Of course, he also wasn’t overly serious.

Everyone knows that the difference in research accidents is only one of the frequency; there’s never an illusion of completely eradicating them.

Eventually, under the guidance of President Cass, the two climbed the third-floor staircase. The sense of freshness became even more apparent instantly, but at first glance, it was still very quiet.

“It looks pretty normal!”

“Professor Luo Bu doing overtime is the biggest abnormality.”

President Cass commented without much emotion and went straight to knock on a door.

Leaders indeed have their unique ways, understanding everyone’s research habits so well.

Fu Qian naturally knew that behind this door was one of the lit rooms he could see from below.

As President Cass finished knocking and opened the door directly, a middle-aged man with semi-long hair, dressed in a loose robe, turned around to look.

Strictly speaking, the man could even be described as having thick eyebrows and large eyes, but his somewhat neurotic expression spoiled much of his demeanor.

At this moment, he was clearly surprised by President Cass’ arrival.

“Why have you come? And this is…”

It seemed he hadn’t paid much attention to the recent events at the Academy.

“Professor Luo Bu, right? It’s a pleasure to meet you. I just got a lifetime teaching position at Heaven’s Commencement Institute, and President Cass brought me here for a tour of the lab.”

Thankfully, Fu Qian didn’t need President Cass to introduce him and greeted him with a smile, eager to contribute to research.

“Have you been here for the past two days?”

With Fu Qian setting the tone, President Cass also looked around while making small talk, appearing very much like someone paying a visit to a frontline worker.

“Yes, I have a new idea…”

Seemingly stimulated by President Cass’ question, Luo Bu readily admitted.

“Please, follow me.”

He signaled for Fu Qian and the other to follow and brought them to a side door, which seemed to have a high level of security.

But the next moment, inside the side door, they could see an oval transparent enclosure standing in a corner of the room.

Within the enclosure, swirls of misty fog were turning over.

Upon closer observation, one could see that it was not real fog but countless tiny flitting grey-white insects.

Amidst the throng of insects stood a snow-white umbrella-shaped object, delicately poised, which appeared to be a mushroom about the size of a palm.

“In the past few days, I’ve realized a mistake in our previous way of thinking…”

Inviting Fu Qian and the others closer to observe, Luo Bu started his lengthy explanation without waiting for President Cass to ask.

“From previous experience, nothing can withstand divinity while resisting the accompanying curse.”

“We’ve tried Transcendent flesh, plants, and even spiritual entities. But the curse is simply too strong. As time passes, what ultimately appears before us is always a mushy mass without any discernible order.”

“But a couple of days ago, I stumbled upon a new idea; what if, instead of one, we used a group? Especially a group that can keep splitting and proliferating, like these insects.”

As he spoke, Luo Bu did not forget to press his face against the enclosure, admiring his own masterpiece.

“Although they are Transcendent creatures, each individual insect is weak and insignificant, and their life force is not strong. Their only reliance is their ability to quickly divide and multiply. As long as there is enough resource, they will keep emerging endlessly.”

“And with my help, this aspect even saw further enhancement.”

“With this, we replace the test subject we had chosen before. The swarm fuses with flesh and blood to obtain divinity, then mutates due to the curse, but because new bugs are constantly being produced, the swarm still exists and may maintain a balance for a long time!”

“After I tried it, the effect was even better than I had imagined, and finally, after waiting for a period of time, I got this.”

Professor Luo Bu pointed excitedly at the mushroom in the middle.

“It’s unimaginable that it would form such a completely unrelated biological form. The continuous supply of flies allows it to truly show the process of ‘growth,’ and it does not display any contamination.”

“I believe that if we cultivate it for a while longer, we will get something even more interesting.”

…

After Professor Luo Bu excitedly finished introducing his great discovery, President Cass seemed to have a rather bad complexion. The next moment, he turned his head to look at Fu Qian.

“What do you think?”

“The mushroom indeed has no contamination.”

Fu Qian made a casual comment, yet his focus was on the surroundings of the enclosure.

Next to this device full of sci-fi aesthetic, there were four items placed at extremely precise angles that did not match the style at all, one of which was a candle-shaped Crystal Stone emitting a faint glow.

Processed by Benevolence Institute to restrain what’s inside?

He speculated momentarily.

“Of course.”

Luo Bu laughed heartily.

“I can’t count how many times I have been staring at it these past few days. If there really were contamination, I’m afraid I would have already been affected—”

“He’s only talking about the mushroom.”

Unfortunately, Cass coldly interrupted him.

The next moment, without any nonsense, a hand burning with black flames reached out and grabbed Luo Bu’s left arm.

Crack!

Facing a demigod, this man, who clearly had no capability to resist, had his arm torn off at the elbow.

What was shocking was that at both ends of the fractured wound, one could see numerous filaments pulling at each other, like tangled mycelium.

And almost instantly, that refreshing scent became several times stronger.

“This is—”

At this time, even Luo Bu did not think about the reputation of a Heaven’s Commencement Institute teacher. Even though his arm was torn off, he still endured the pain and pondered the reason.

“I’m contaminated? How could this be?”

“Isn’t it obvious? When have you ever been so diligent?”

Cass huffed.

“The mushroom is fine, but haven’t you felt that the flight paths of those bugs are a bit strange?”

Not giving Luo Bu another chance to speak, Cass punched the man in the stomach in the next moment.

Almost instantly, Luo Bu’s body erupted in flames.

Judging by his screams and the rapid charring of his skin, this was clearly very painful.

Fortunately, the burning did not last too long. About five seconds later, Cass tossed the now charred him to the side and reached out to Fu Qian.

“What is this?”

Fu Qian looked at Cass’s open palm to find a writhing mass of flesh.

It was only the size of a snail but exuded an alarming chaos.

“Kaldora… a demigod from Heaven’s Commencement that some would rather not deal with.”

Cass laughed, but there was little joy in his tone.
