Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 955: Chapter 953: Prism (26) Chapter 955: Chapter 953: Prism (26) “Indeed… full of surprises!”

The sudden attack seemed not to have affected Masked Man; as he made clicking noises with his mouth, he eyed the creature that, despite broken legs, was still desperately crawling toward him.

Of course, given the creature’s unrecognizable face, there was little information to gather.

“A staff member, possibly even a minor supervisor.”

Even so, Masked Man was quickly summarizing.

“After all, they had their own private office.”

The body was dressed in researcher’s clothes, and Masked Man’s reasoning was clearly sound. However, this morbid joke didn’t quite land, as the team members showed no interest in pandering.

The only sound in the room was the expressionless Red Dragon shifting the cabinet next to him, preparing to repeat an old trick and pin down this intruder as well.

“Guansi, what do you think?”

Masked Man seemed quite the calm leader. Seeing that he got no reaction, he directly called on someone for their opinion.

Meanwhile, Fu Qian was contemplating the bloodied Tranquilizer in his hand, lost in thought.

He and Red Dragon had just dealt with the creature’s knees, shooting from left and right.

Now, faced with Masked Man’s questioning, Fu Qian pondered for a few seconds and nodded earnestly.

“Not a bad figure.”

…

It was clear that his commentary was more impactful than the dire situation at hand. For a moment, no one spoke.

“Don’t you think?” Fu Qian looked surprised.

“To be fair, though a bit thin, the proportions are quite good.”

This guy must be a bit crazy!

A thought echoed through the team members’ minds. Even Masked Man couldn’t help but cough lightly and decided to consult another member.

“Qing, what do you think?”

“Lady Qing definitely had a reliable presence that was reassuring.

She nodded while helping Red Dragon pin down the body.

“This person might have been a relatively high-level R&D staff member.”

“Also, there’s a gunshot wound on the head. Considering the state of the surroundings, it could easily be interpreted as fear-driven suicide.”

“But there’s something I wonder if you’ve noticed: there are no weapons anywhere in the room, and the door is open. ”

The next moment, Qing pointed around.

As the colors spread and became more vividly red, most of the room was already covered in fluorescent light.

But indeed, as she said, there were no traces of firearms on the desk or around the room.

“It could be understood that someone came in and took the weapon after his death, but I wonder if there’s another possibility… that he didn’t commit suicide, but someone burst in, shot him, and then took something?”

“Access permissions?” Red Dragon suddenly alarmed, realized something.

“Yes, for the sake of high-level staff access permissions, we might still have to face a fully armed team. It’s not necessarily the original one, but with a similar objective—like coming specifically to clean up after the incident upon orders.”

“That makes sense, fortunately, I was never overly optimistic.” Red Dragon said, slightly stunned, but chuckled the next moment.

“At least considering our current situation, they clearly haven’t solved the problem, right? This suggests that what they’re after is most likely still here.”

“Yes, so we need to get moving quickly. This place is too close to the source; the contamination is clearly accelerating. ”

Qing glanced at her feet, which, due to contact with the floor, were now flickering with fluorescence.

“I agree.”

Masked Man’s stance was also extremely straightforward.

“In fact, we don’t have the luxury of delay. Listen to the sounds outside.”

As if to underscore his words, just as they were spoken, a non-human wail came from outside, clearly signaling that this place was no longer safe.

“`

For a moment, the team harbored no doubts and began gathering their belongings.

But just as the group cautiously slipped out of the room and found themselves in the corridor, illuminated by fluorescent lights, reminiscent of a magical castle…

“Good luck to you all.”

Fu Qian, previously marginalized by everyone due to his overly fantastical remarks, suddenly waved his hand, offering his best wishes.

“Guansi, you…”

Realizing what he had said, Red Dragon appeared to be at a loss for words.

It was you who suggested we move when the color changes…

“It’s too dangerous, so please allow me to play the deserter this time.”

Under everyone’s gaze, Fu Qian maintained a composed expression.

“I can’t help it; going first earlier did traumatize my spirit a bit.”

At this revelation, including Masked Man, the group found themselves speechless.

Indeed, it was this guy who had previously dashed out of the lab with a near-suicidal attitude.

Yet precisely because of this, it was hard to believe that such a person could have any issues with spiritual trauma.

“Time is pressing; you better hurry up.”

After this reminder and still smiling, Fu Qian did not wait for a response but simply left the group and went his own way.

“Let’s continue. In such a bizarre place, maybe Guansi will turn out to be our last hope.”

As Fu Qian’s silhouette disappeared around the corner, Masked Man ultimately remained inactive, merely remarking meaningfully.

…

On his way back, Fu Qian truly demonstrated unity between his words and actions, showing no further interest in what lay below.

He mostly agreed with Qing’s judgment.

The person in the room most likely hadn’t been killed by themselves.

And if a team had indeed come from outside to handle the aftermath, it would have been easy to find traces… like now.

At this moment, Fu Qian was standing in front of an elevator.

This was undoubtedly the busiest spot he had come across, with more than a dozen staff in view.

In theory, with the current physical condition of mortals, fighting alone would be challenging.

However, at this moment, the dense limbs and scattered brain matter made it clear they had already been ravaged.

This seemed to confirm the story of a clean-up squad.

And by using this fact, he could easily retrace the route in the opposite direction, thereby reaching the outside with minimal resistance.

Already resolved, Fu Qian did not hesitate to take the elevator upwards, following the trail of severed limbs and brains in reverse.

And after entering an unfamiliar route and traveling a significant distance, he realized he had reached ground level.

Is there really a shortcut? Professional!

Fu Qian praised silently.

There were still small groups of active individuals on the street, but hiding was not too difficult.

Looking at the research building not far away, Fu Qian, who had just managed to escape, took steps towards it, casting himself back into the net.

“It’s really not there…”

And moments later, after reopening a familiar door, Fu Qian let out a sigh.

This was the lab where Henry was found, and this time, Oliver, who should have been standing there, was nowhere to be seen.

So the office the team entered just before was indeed Oliver’s? No wonder the knee felt so familiar…

…

Fu Qian toyed with the tranquilizer in his hand.

Yes, the reason he had previously complimented the figure was that he recognized the dismembered body as familiar, and even the feeling of knocking on the knee was reminiscent.

And if that really was Oliver, the information it implied was somewhat troubling – being shot in the head in one’s own office rather than running out to sneak a look at the cat almost certainly meant that these two red incidents were not from the same timeline.

It was just very similar, or rather, it was cleverly disguised.
