The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 1089: Chapter 414: My Husband Is a Supporting Character (Part 13)

The Ma Family initially planned to help He Shu find a suitable match, and with her own daughter’s entrustment, she became even more dedicated.

Due to the influence of the Marquis Mansion and the Great General, the Ma Family had great rapport among the noblewomen in the capital.

She frequently attended various banquets, and before her daughter stirred up a fuss about marrying Zhou Jin, the Ma Family had considered finding her a good husband among the nobles.

Therefore, Ma Family had general knowledge of which young masters in various aristocratic families and wealthy households in the capital were eligible bachelors.

Now, it was He Shu’s turn, so the Ma Family slightly lowered the standards and soon drafted a list in her mind—

The Third Young Master of Duke Qingguo’s Mansion, the second young master of Princess Pingkang’s family, the sixth son of Elder Wang, the legitimate second son of Marquis Weiyuan’s Family...

In terms of age, family background, and even character and appearance, they were quite a match for He Shu.

The Ma Family prepared the list and was thinking of finding some time to discuss it with the Main Lady and Grand Madam.

Before she could start, the Main Lady approached her.

After listening to the Main Lady’s hesitant and indirect words, the smile in the Ma Family’s eyes faded considerably.

The next day, He Tiantian roamed back to her parental home to freeload a meal, and the Ma Family, unable to resist nagging her daughter, brought up the matter first.

”...The fourth girl has high aspirations and doesn’t fancy the families I’ve selected for her!”

The Ma Family truly felt as if she poured her good intentions down the drain.

Her tone was somewhat aggressive when she spoke.

He Tiantian was unsurprised and said blandly, ”People strive for greater heights, water flows to lower grounds, it’s only natural!”

”Besides, He Shu has been competing with me since childhood. I married a Commandery Prince, so she naturally does not want to marry a second son or Concubine Son from a Duke Family.”

”Yet, you all say she’s sensible and blame me for not letting go of grudges—”

He Tiantian has never forgotten her persona.

Even when chatting with her mom, she doesn’t forget to whitewash her past arrogance and willfulness.

The Ma Family was stifled momentarily and spoke with displeasure, ”I say she’s sensible, merely because I pity her for losing her father.”

It’s a matter of face, not stupidity. Which woman wouldn’t pity her own daughter but instead favor a convenient niece?

It’s just that her own daughter is a firecracker, misunderstanding her intentions, only knowing how to clash with He Shu.

However, talking about He Shu’s lack of a father made the Ma Family think about the marriage matter.

She snorted coldly, ”High aspirations, yet what good is it? Without father or brothers, only a widow mother, those heirs of good families won’t choose her!”

”The fourth girl indeed lacks father and brothers, but she has a good second uncle. Now, she has an elder sister who is a Princess Consort—”

He Tiantian raised her chest proudly and remarked, ”With our support, it’s not quite a reckless dream for the fourth girl to marry into a prominent family.”

The Ma Family seemed to have realized something, and her face showed some displeasure: ”People don’t necessarily think about relying on us. Maybe, in their mother-daughter’s eyes, they see your Daddy and me as interlopers!”

With He Jing gone, He Jing was able to inherit the title.

And the Ma Family also took over as the Marchioness in place of the Main Lady.

The Main Lady and He Shu may not have spoken explicitly, but sometimes it hinted at the notion of the second branch pilfering the first branch’s title, basking in their light!

Hmph, they never seemed to consider that He Jing holds military power and excels in leading troops.

Over the past twenty years, it’s countless how many military exploits he has achieved.

By his real skills, he could have long been entitled Marquis, possibly even further.

Just because the household has Marquis Nanning’s title, the Emperor hasn’t granted extra recognition.

Plundering? Benefiting?

The Ma Family rather felt it was Marquis Nanning’s Mansion dragging her family’s lord down!

”Can’t put it like that. Daddy is indeed capable, he could earn the title on his own merit. But Marquis Nanning’s Mansion is a founding meritorious house, and our family holds the elixir book iron certificate bestowed by the Emperor—”

He Tiantian analyzed objectively.

”...You child, which side are you on?”

The Ma Family was rendered speechless by her own daughter and felt indignant.

Then, the Ma Family sharply realized: wait, hold on, since when has Tiantian become so perceptive?

The Ma Family cast a suspicious glance at He Tiantian.

She wasn’t suspecting her daughter had switched souls but worried: has the girl encountered something? Why suddenly become ’sensible’?

As a good mother who cherishes her children and a knowledgeable matriarch, the Ma Family naturally understood.

Children aren’t born understanding, it’s through hardship and lessons learned that—

”Mom, of course, I’m on your side!”

He Tiantian was not in the least flustered or guilty under the gaze of the Ma Family.

She comically rolled her eyes and said casually, ”Do you really think I’ve started liking He Shu?”
