The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 646: Chapter 261 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 5)

At the Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, the Grand Madam, Mrs. Zhang, Second Old Master, Second Madam, Third Old Master, and all the others could only stagger with weary legs and rumble with hunger in their bellies, watching helplessly as Feng Zhongliang and his wife took care of Wei Yuanniang.

”...Eldest sister-in-law really has a good servant!”

”Isn’t that the truth, to take care of their ’Eldest Miss’, they even neglect their own son!”

Second Madam and Third Madam were both exhausted and weak, yet they still had the energy to gossip, which was not easy.

Mrs. Zhang: ...Indeed a light that doesn’t burn simply, what a time to be spectating and offering cold remarks.

They seemed not to consider who it was that had been diligently serving them all this way.

Mrs. Zhang felt very indignant inside, and Second Madam and Third Madam had their own bellyful of gripes: If it wasn’t for the first branch causing trouble, would their second branch or third branch have had to suffer this misfortune?

A misstep might even lead to the confiscation of their title, the looting of their property, even the execution of the whole family.

Hadn’t they seen how, after the incident blew up, none of their maternal homes had reached out to help?

Although Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion had not yet been convicted, the whole family had been detained and escorted to Capital City for trial, but with the Southwest defeat, the whereabouts of Marquis Pingnan unknown and suspected of collusion with the enemy, Emperor Chengtai was furious, and even someone as senior as Grand Madam with an imperial decree was implicated.

It seemed Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion really was in big trouble.

So, the maternal families of all the ladies like Grand Madam chose to wait and see, ready to find ways to sever ties with the mansion at the critical moment.

During the escort journey to the Capital City, not a single household came to help, only Feng Zhongliang, a simpleton who had shed his lowly status, tried to attend them in every possible way.

”Oh, the eldest sister-in-law indeed raised loyal servants, each more devoted than the last!”

”Oh my, look at this little servant lad, he’s quite handsome!”

Second Madam and Third Madam were tired and hungry, their resentment towards the first branch reaching its peak.

They even began to vent their anger on the little boy left behind by He Tiantian, who was the male lead, Wei Yanting.

Of course, at this time, Wei Yanting was still just Feng Yanting, a clever child of four or five years old.

Suddenly separated from his most relied-upon mother and surrounded by so many strangers, Feng Yanting felt a little frightened.

He instinctively sought out a familiar face.

Turning his small head left and right, Feng Yanting indeed spotted an acquaintance.

Mrs. Zhang?

Yes, he recognized her—the Noble of the house, who particularly adored him. Every few days in the past, his granny would take him to pay respects to the lady.

Every time he went to Marquis Mansion, he could eat lots of beautiful and delicious things, and there were many toys he couldn’t buy outside.

Moreover, Mrs. Zhang would hold him, coo to him, teach him to recite poems and texts.

If he did well, the lady would secretly give him some gold melon seeds, golden peanuts, or red and blue gemstones.

Mrs. Zhang had made a pact with him that this was their little secret, not to be told to anyone.

Even his parents didn’t know that Feng Yanting’s toy chest hid a box full of treasures.

But as close as Mrs. Zhang was, she was still an outsider.

Feng Yanting’s gaze lingered on her for a moment, then quickly shifted away, finally landing on Nanny Zhao.

With a chubby, tender finger in his mouth, he called out in a babyish voice, ”Granny!”

”Oh dear, my Baobao, your parents are really too careless, how could they leave you behind?”

Nanny Zhao quickly bent down and scooped Feng Yanting up in her arms.

”Are you hungry? Thirsty?” Nanny Zhao scanned him up and down while repeating a series of questions.

Mrs. Zhang didn’t speak, but watched with concern.

Feng Yanting nodded and shook his head obediently: ”Hungry, not thirsty.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao’s hearts ached, and they wished they could pull ”Gu Xiuniang” aside to question her severely: How could you be such a mother? Don’t you even know to feed your child?!

However, before Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao could go find He Tiantian to pick a quarrel, He Tiantian had already inflicted another wound on this pair of master and servant.

He Tiantian was seen rushing out from another side, her face showing a trace of joy.

Upon seeing Mrs. Zhang, she did not forget to report, ”Madam, it’s great news, the doctor has administered medicine to the Eldest Miss and rebandaged her wound, the Eldest Miss has woken up!”

Mrs. Zhang:...

What’s good about that, it’s just a minor injury on the face, not deadly!

Instead, as the Marchioness, her feet were almost worn out, and now ached as if being pricked.

And her growling stomach, heavens, the Marchioness had often controlled her diet to maintain her slim figure in the past.
