The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 645: Chapter 260 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 4)_3

Yes, the Marquis Mansion had met with misfortune, and it would have been fine if it were only the adults, who might have mustered some strength to endure.

But the Eldest Miss was so young to begin with, and now she had sustained grievous injuries. If she weren’t treated promptly, then, then—

”Xiuniang, you really are thoughtful!”

”I, I’ll go to the station up ahead right away to find a doctor, get some medicine for external injuries, then prepare some easily digestible food for the children!”

Feng Zhongliang was an honest sort, submissive to the more assertive Nanny Zhao, listening to his own mother.

Now that Nanny Zhao wasn’t around, and there was a decisive wife by his side, and since the requests were for the sake of Nanny Zhao, Feng Zhongliang subconsciously complied.

He swung his whip, urging the horse to run faster, and soon arrived at the station.

Following his wife’s suggestions, he busied himself with a flurry of preparations.

By the time Captain Qian and a group of soldiers were escorting the household of the Marquis to the station,

There were no drinks, meals, or hot water baths usual from the past, only a barefoot doctor from the countryside.

Seeing the deserted look of the station, Captain Qian’s face darkened instantly.

Mrs. Zhang was also a bit angry, having walked for half a day, and her feet were covered in blisters.

Her legs felt as though they were filled with lead, completely unable to move.

And her stomach was grumbling endlessly.

Mrs. Zhang no longer cared if the noises from her belly would draw laughter, after a month of being escorted, she had completely forgotten about propriety and decorum.

All she wanted now was a full meal, even if it was the plain tea and rice that she would not have glanced at in the past. As long as she could be full, Mrs. Zhang would be very satisfied.

Having eaten her fill, then soaking her feet in hot water and lying down to rest properly, Mrs. Zhang would feel she had the strength to persevere.

But—

”What’s the meaning of this? You, you didn’t prepare anything?”

Nanny Zhao rushed up to Feng Zhongliang, grabbing his arm and scolding him in a low voice.

Feng Zhongliang indeed was an honest man, never one to read facial expressions.

He proudly boasted to Nanny Zhao: ”Mom, I found a doctor, and have prepared the medicine for injuries, the Eldest Miss—”

The Eldest Miss?

What Eldest Miss?!

The most urgent matter was their mistress!

In the eyes of Nanny Zhao, there was only Mrs. Zhang, she didn’t care about any Eldest Miss, she only wanted her mistress to have a hot meal, a proper wash, and rest.

The last thing on Feng Zhongliang’s mind was to observe expressions, but He Tiantian could see Nanny Zhao’s anger.

She quickly stepped forward, setting down the little boy in her arms, and lifted Wei Yuanniang from Nanny Zhao’s back.

”Oh dear, the Eldest Miss’s injury is indeed severe, her head is so hot, she must be running a fever!”

He Tiantian repeatedly called out to Feng Zhongliang, ”Husband, quickly invite the doctor over, the Eldest Miss is the only daughter of the lady and the Marquis. We cannot take any risks!”

In saying so, He Tiantian also didn’t forget to look towards Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao, ”Madam, Mom, rest assured, I and my husband will definitely take good care of the Eldest Miss!”

Mrs. Zhang: ...suddenly feeling like a mute who had eaten bitter herbs.

She had intended to scold Feng Zhongliang, but with He Tiantian putting it that way, she could not blame him for being negligent, and had to ”appreciate” the couple’s thoughtful considerations.

What could she say?

Was she supposed to blame Feng Zhongliang for not preparing food and hot water for the fully-abled adults, prioritizing a doctor for their ”daughter” – a child who was injured?

Actually, the station did have ”standard meals,” but they were too coarse.

Along the way, the meals for the Marquis Mansion had always been managed by Feng Zhongliang.

Now, they were expected to eat the black steamed buns not fit for dogs, they, they simply could not swallow it.

Nanny Zhao: ...really wanted to curse and hit someone.

But, she couldn’t!

She was a loyal servant, meant to be concerned with her master’s worries and contemplations.

And in the eyes of Nanny Zhao, whose mistress was a loving mother, Mrs. Zhang should be most concerned about her unconscious daughter.

Now Feng Zhongliang had not only summoned a doctor, but he had also cooked easily digestible meat porridge for Wei Yuanniang, and Nanny Zhao could only be ”moved” and offer praise!

Bah!

She was moved my ghost, and praise my ghost!

Nanny Zhao wished she could drag that stupid son of hers and slap him hard across the face.

He Tiantian didn’t care about how Mrs. Zhang or Nanny Zhao felt constrained or frustrated; embracing Wei Yuanniang, she went to have the doctor examine her.

Captain Qian, however, blocked He Tiantian’s path.

He Tiantian raised an eyebrow and quickly made eye signals to Feng Zhongliang.

Although Feng Zhongliang was overly honest, over the past month following the escort team to the capital, he had learned some subtleties of communication.

At least, when Nanny Zhao gestured to him and made a money motion, he would take out money from his pocket and hand it to Captain Qian.

”Captain Qian, please grant us this convenience!”

Having received his wife’s signal, Feng Zhongliang dared not delay, and quickly pulled out a five-tael silver ingot and stuffed it into Captain Qian’s sleeve.

Captain Qian felt the weight of the silver, and then looking at Wei Yuanniang, who was barely hanging on, he dared not let the legitimate eldest daughter of the Marquis Pingnan die in his custody and thus stepped aside.
