The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 577: Chapter 238 My Son is a Treacherous Minister (Part 14)

Several days later, Guo Erlang came to the He Family with a grave expression.

”Erlang, how is it? How is the investigation going?”

Commandery Princess An Kang noticed that the expression on her brother’s face was off, and her heart tightened.

Could it be that Ma Mingchang really posed a problem?

And even more troublesome, could it be that her husband, He Xi, was really in collusion with Ma Mingchang?

Commandery Princess An Kang was not foolish. He Xi, a civil servant, was eagerly in contact with a military general thousands of miles away.

What exactly did they intend to achieve?

Don’t tell her it was because He Xi and Ma Mingchang admired each other, and they had only met once at her wedding years ago, and then, just like that, became sworn friends!

”This morning, I just received a pigeon-carried message from Father—”

Guo Erlang’s emotions were very complicated.

On one hand, he wanted to tell his sister the truth so she wouldn’t be manipulated by others after he left her alone in Capital City.

On the other hand, he was afraid of making his sister sad, knowing how close she was to that person.

Being betrayed by such a relative, upon learning the truth, sister would definitely be heartbroken.

”Erlang, what exactly is going on? Tell me, I, I can bear it!”

An Kang was fragile and sensitive, she noticed her brother’s difficulty and struggle. Holding back her tears, with a nasally voice, she tentatively asked, ”Is it He Xi? He, he—”

Did he really conspire with the Deputy General close to Father, with malicious intent?

He Xi was her husband, and his conduct these days had been quite good.

The couple seemed to have returned to the sweetness and affection of their honeymoon days.

But, the past five years Commandery Princess An Kang could not deceive herself and erase.

Deep down, she was very aware that her husband did not love her, or rather, his affection for her and their children was far less than the love he held for himself.

Moreover, An Kang was very clear her husband was a capable, ambitious man.

However, since he had married high into the Imperial Family, a legitimate daughter of Duke Wei Mansion, no matter how outstanding his abilities were, others would still suspect he was dependent on her.

He Xi wanted to completely break free from the influence of Commandery Princess An Kang and the Guo Family. The only way was to trample Commandery Princess An Kang underfoot and make the Guo Family disappear completely.

In the past, An Kang could not understand why He Xi would allow his mother-in-law to bully her.

But in recent days, her relationship with her mother-in-law had become subtle and close, influenced by her, she too began to try to see things from an outstanding perspective.

Gradually, An Kang seemed to understand.

This mindset of He Xi was actually much like that of the evil old lady in the past.

They wanted to cling to the powerful yet feared being ridiculed for basking in reflected glory.

To prove they could stand on their own, they enjoyed the benefits brought by the noble lady while desperately suppressing her.

In the end, it was all rooted in inner insecurity and lack of strength.

Realizing this, An Kang felt a lot of pain.

But, at this moment, she also felt somewhat fortunate; at least she saw through He Xi’s true nature and would not harm her father and brothers with his sweet words.

”It was He Xi, he conspired with Deputy General Ma, they have been exchanging letters for years.”

Guo Erlang spoke gravely, ”Those letters, Father also found from Deputy General Ma. He Xi, that despicable man, indeed has wild ambitions!”

He dared to plot against his Yue Family, he hasn’t even crossed the river yet, but all day long he thinks about burning bridges.

However, after Prince Consort Guo thoroughly investigated the matter, he was also able to understand why He Xi would do so.

This guy was too utilitarian, too sinister, he was using the entire Guo Family, the entire Duke Wei Mansion as his display of allegiance.

Because—

After much hesitation, Guo Erlang still decided to reveal the whole truth, ”Additionally, Father also discovered that Deputy General Ma is actually a confidant of the Saint!”

An Kang’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at her own brother, ”You, you mean my uncle?”

The man who had personally raised her and had played the role of a father in her life for a long time?

He, he actually planted a confidant close to her father?

”Why? Why would he do that?”

Her father was her uncle’s brother-in-law, back then when uncle ascended to the Dragon Throne, it was also with the strong support of the Guo Family Army.

Not to mention, her birth mother, An Kang’s mother, who died saving the emperor.

Whether it was kinship or gratitude, uncle should not treat the Guo family like this.

When the nest is overturned, how could the eggs remain intact?

Did uncle not know, once something happened to the Guo Family, not only would her brother-in-law die, but even his two legitimate nephews would not fare well.
