My Silly, Sweet Wife

Ye Guichen was speechless.

This Zhang Chongchen is truly obsessed with Daoism, wanting to recruit me into the Daoist sect.

Back when I was young, I had followed my master Li Fengxian to Heavenly Master Tao, where Zhang Chongchen’s master Zhang Chonglou recognized my exceptional talent and wanted to take me as his disciple. However, Li Fengxian refused. Now that Zhang Chongchen is asking, how could I possibly agree?

”Taoist Zhang, you’re really joking. I’m just playing around out of boredom. Truly practicing Daoist arts is too tedious, I simply can’t endure that solitude.” Ye Guichen was naturally making excuses. Seeing that Zhang Chongchen was still trying to persuade him, Ye Guichen quickly changed the topic, ”Taoist Zhang, I wonder what your thoughts are on today’s events?”

When the water monkey was brought up, Zhang Chongchen indeed stopped pressing Ye Guichen about practicing Daoist arts, and his brows furrowed, ”Mr. Ye, normally I shouldn’t tell you this, but today you’ve done our Heavenly Master Tao a favor, so I won’t hide it from you. This matter is quite tricky, and the power of that water monkey is beyond imagination. Today, we gave it quite a beating, and it lost a finger, was injured, and likely will remain in the water without coming out for a while. However, that’s not important. After today’s encounter, I’m more worried about another matter.”

Ye Guichen had some suspicions in his heart, but he didn’t speak and simply nodded slightly for Zhang Chongchen to continue.

Zhang Chongchen continued, ”In this modern society, all kinds of malevolent entities have decreased. In ancient times, there were many water monkeys because there were many deaths, and bodies were not properly handled. Due to some incidents, it was easy to form water monkeys. But now, the conditions required are numerous. Originally, I thought the water monkey in the artificial lake was newly formed and not very strong, but now I realize I was greatly mistaken.”

”If my guess is correct, that water monkey was likely intentionally nurtured.”

”What?” Ye Guichen was shocked hearing Zhang Chongchen’s words, ”Taoist Zhang, are you saying that the water monkey is like the Gu insects in Miao Territory, specially cultivated by someone?”

”You know about Miao Territory’s Gu insects?” Zhang Chongchen looked at Ye Guichen with surprise, but upon further thought, Ye Guichen’s abilities and identity aren’t simple, so it’s natural for him to know about Gu insects. He nodded, ”Yes, that’s the concern. According to our Daoist records, there once appeared a sect dedicated to pursuing immortality, its members proficient in various sinister arts, one of which included cultivating water monkeys.”

Taking a deep breath, Zhang Chongchen’s eyes flashed with fear, ”That sect was called Eternal Life Hall. A hundred years ago, it caused much harm and was annihilated by the combined forces of the Daoist sects. But now it seems, there might still be some remaining members alive, and signs of resurgence have emerged.”

”Eternal Life Hall?” Ye Guichen hadn’t heard of this name before, but one requiring the joint effort of Daoist sects to eliminate must be formidable.

”Taoist Zhang, what do you plan to do?” Ye Guichen didn’t have a clear solution at the moment.

Zhang Chongchen said gravely, ”This matter has surpassed my ability to control; I must report the situation here to my master promptly and let him decide. If this truly is the work of Eternal Life Hall, even killing the water monkey may have little impact.”

Ye Guichen nodded, ”Fine, Taoist Zhang, if there’s anything you need help with, just let me know.”

After speaking, Ye Guichen stood up and didn’t hesitate to let Zhang Chongchen and his group stay temporarily in the villa while waiting for news from Heavenly Master Tao.

Though reluctant, Zhang Chongchen had no choice.

Originally, they planned to quickly eliminate the water monkey and leave, but now it seemed they’d have to stay in Jinling for a while.

After expressing his gratitude, Zhang Chongchen did not remain overly polite.

Ye Guichen always had a good impression of the Daoist sect.

Moreover, Zhang Chonglou of Heavenly Master Tao and his master Li Fengxian were good friends. Since Ye Guichen encountered this situation, he naturally had no reason not to help.

After arranging things for Zhang Chongchen and his group, Ye Guichen didn’t stay longer and decided to visit Boss Mo.

Boss Mo had already informed Ye Guichen, hoping he could take some time to teach the elites.

Since Boss Mo had mentioned it several times, Ye Guichen felt embarrassed to refuse further; if he did, people might say he was being pretentious.

However, as soon as he stepped out of the villa, he encountered Xie Fang.

”Mr. Ye, are you alright?” Xie Fang showed concern, ”I truly apologize, I didn’t expect such a thing to happen.”

Ye Guichen waved his hand, ”No problem.”

”Well, those three Taoists...” Xie Fang craned his neck, peering into Ye Guichen’s villa.

Ye Guichen casually said, ”They’ll be staying at Phoenix Pavilion One for a while. I hope Manager Xie can take care of them.”

Xie Fang’s face showed a look of difficulty, ”Mr. Ye, isn’t this a bit inappropriate? Though those Taoists have some abilities, if they stay at Phoenix Pavilion, I’m afraid it’ll have a bad impact if word gets out. I’ve already had the security seal off the artificial lake completely, and there shouldn’t be any more problems for now. Can you ask them to leave soon?”

Ye Guichen sneered, ”Manager Xie, I bought this villa myself. Do I need your approval for whom I allow to stay? Ha, are you afraid of those Taoists because the thing in the artificial lake has something to do with you?”

Xie Fang hurriedly waved his hands, his eyes skittish, ”Mr. Ye, you must be joking! I’ve never seen that thing myself; how could it be related to me? Besides, as the manager here, of course I want the property to be better. You really know how to joke.”

”Oh, if it has nothing to do with you, then it’s fine. Since there’s something in the artificial lake, spreading the news would surely affect Phoenix Pavilion negatively. Don’t worry, I won’t spread it. But if that thing isn’t dealt with, my purchase of Phoenix Pavilion One and Two would be meaningless. Having a beautiful scenery that can’t be enjoyed is a shame. So, those three Taoists said they would recover from their injuries a bit and would surely rid the lake of that thing.”

Xie Fang’s eyelids twitched nervously, extending two fingers, ”Mr. Ye, I’ll give you two million.”

Ye Guichen asked, ”What do you mean?”

”Mr. Ye, I apologize for this incident, and I personally offer you two million, hoping you won’t get involved in this matter anymore. I’ll find someone to deal with the thing in the artificial lake. What do you think?”

Ye Guichen laughed boldly, ”I’m not short on money.”

”Manager Xie, although I don’t know why you fear me interfering with the lake, I have a tendency to handle things once I encounter them. Moreover, I won’t lie, I do have some connection with those three Taoists, so you don’t need to waste your breath.”

”As for the two million, you should give it to the families of those who died because of the lake’s thing instead. Over the years, the number of people killed by it must be quite a few, right?”

The words had turned cold.
