My Silly, Sweet Wife

”Manager Xie, it’s for your own good to leave. I know you don’t believe in us Taoists, nor do you believe there are evil spirits here, but just now, from far away, I could feel the heavy yin energy here. If I’m not mistaken, that evil spirit has already claimed at least five lives.”

Zhang Chongchen said calmly, ”Although I don’t know why this thing appeared here and why no one dealt with it before, since I’ve come today, I won’t let it harm anyone else. But that thing is too domineering. If we provoke it, a battle might be inevitable, and if Manager Xie gets hurt, it wouldn’t be good.”

Xie Fang dismissed it casually, ”Taoist Zhang is really joking. With Mr. Ye here with me, and isn’t it true that evil spirits don’t come out during the day? Hehe, even if it does exist, how could it possibly harm me in broad daylight?”

Zhang Chongchen looked up at the sky; it was rather gloomy, with no sunlight visible. He sighed, ”If you insist, Manager Xie, there’s nothing I can do. I just want to remind you not to get too close.”

”Haha, Taoist Zhang, let’s summon it first,” Xie Fang made a call to Ma Xiaohu, instructing him to have the security guards seal off the surrounding area to prevent unnecessary uproar.

He then smiled and asked Ye Guichen, ”Mr. Ye, do you really believe there are evil spirits here?”

From the first glance at Zhang Chongchen, Ye Guichen felt that this person was a genuine Taoist, much stronger than Zhang Changhe.

Moreover, there was a gleam in Zhang Chongchen’s eyes, a light untainted by the secular world, very pure.

In the eyes of such people, it seemed that they truly harbored the world, taking it upon themselves to subdue demons and eliminate monsters.

Especially the daoist robe on Zhang Chongchen, already washed to the point of being somewhat faded. This also proved he was a person who cherished old things.

Although Zhang Chongchen was somewhat indifferent to him, Ye Guichen had a very good impression of him.

Seeing Xie Fang asking him, Ye Guichen nodded, ”I believe in Taoist Zhang’s judgment.”

Zhang Chongchen, hearing this, glanced at Ye Guichen unexpectedly, but said nothing more and ordered, ”Alright, let’s start.”

No longer paying attention to Xie Fang and Ye Guichen.

However, nobody noticed the meaningful, cold smile curling at the corner of Xie Fang’s mouth as he unconsciously moved a step behind Ye Guichen.

In fact, Xie Fang was well aware of the evil spirit in the lake.

But to say he believed Zhang Chongchen and the others could eliminate that thing was something Xie Fang absolutely did not believe.

When the artificial lake was first built, Xie Fang had witnessed that thing firsthand, so agile it could easily drag a man weighing at least 200 pounds into the water.

Initially, Xie Fang tried to find some people capable of subduing demons and eliminating monsters, but upon hearing his description, they all shook their heads and refused to take the job.

At first, Xie Fang didn’t connect the thing in the artificial lake with the coffin, but after the incident last night, he recalled the coffin from five years ago.

That coffin was handled by Xie Fang himself.

Thinking about it now still leaves him with lingering fear.

The entire coffin was bright red, and with the excavator driver dying under mysterious circumstances, Xie Fang couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Moreover, when they reburied the coffin, two more people died, both of them coffin bearers, bleeding from all seven orifices, one seemed to have been instantly drained of blood, dying in the blink of an eye.

The other coffin bearers didn’t die, but they fell severely ill and almost hovered around Ghost Gate, although they later recovered, their bodies were extremely weak as if something had haunted them.

Luckily, Xie Fang was far away, just giving orders and not getting close; otherwise, he might have suffered lingering aftereffects.

But Xie Fang never opened the coffin.

Accumulating all these bizarre events together, Xie Fang increasingly felt that the coffin’s contents were extraordinary and likely related to his brother-in-law.

Xie Fang even suspected that the thing causing harm now had emerged from the coffin.

Given his brother-in-law’s actions today, Xie Fang dared not ask more, since the three Taoists were courting death, Xie Fang didn’t mind observing what true capabilities that thing had.

Besides, Xie Fang planned to use a borrowed knife to eliminate someone.

If he could seize this opportunity to remove Ye Guichen, it would eliminate many future troubles.

Of course, these were just thoughts in Xie Fang’s mind.

He would adjust based on the situation.

Ye Guichen, unaware of Xie Fang’s intentions, didn’t care.

Although he had some understanding of Taoist matters, he had never seen it firsthand. Now having the chance to witness Zhang Chongchen in action, he felt curious and didn’t mind Xie Fang quietly taking a step back.

On the other side, Zhang Changhe took a live chicken from his backpack, swiftly cut its throat with a dagger, then brought the struggling chicken to the lakeside, letting its blood drip into the lake.

Zhang Chongchen’s face was stern, his left hand pinching a talisman paper, his right holding a Peach Wood Sword, staring at the lake.

Zhong Qing held a net woven with gold silk, also nervously watching the lake.

For five or six minutes, except for the gradually reddening lake water from the chicken blood, there was no movement.

Seeing the chicken’s struggle fading, Zhang Changhe asked doubtfully, ”Uncle Master, is this method ineffective?”

Zhang Chongchen had roughly understood the thing inside before coming. If it was indeed a water monster, this bloody smell from a live chicken would definitely lure it out.

Even if it was daytime, it couldn’t hold back.

”Could it be...” Zhang Chongchen was about to suggest they try again at night, but before he could finish, the previously calm lake surface suddenly rippled.

In the next second, it was as if a whirlwind emerged from the lake bottom.

Simultaneously, a black shadow swiftly leapt from the lake, directly attacking Zhang Changhe on the shore.

”Watch out!” Ye Guichen, upon seeing the creature’s rapid speed, instinctively shouted.

Zhang Changhe, despite being tense, couldn’t react in time due to the creature’s speed.

It was a critical moment when Zhong Qing, who had long been prepared, flicked his wrist, ”Junior Brother Zhang, quickly retreat!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the large net in his hand was flung out.

The net opened as it flew, as if controlled by some eerie force, heading towards the black shadow.

The black shadow moved incredibly fast, almost grabbing the dying chicken the moment it emerged from the lake.

Before Zhang Changhe could react, the chicken was swallowed.

As Zhang Changhe looked up, he met a pair of pitch-black eyes.

Overwhelmed with terror, Zhang Changhe forgot to run.

”Squeak!” With a sharp scream, the creature was suddenly ensnared by the gold silk net.

”Caught it!” Zhong Qing shouted excitedly.

This time, almost everyone finally saw the creature’s appearance.

Entirely pitch-black, standing about 1.6 meters tall, resembling a monkey but with extremely long arms, its sharp teeth exposed, looking chilling.

”Water monster!” Zhang Changhe screamed, snapping back to reality, feeling cold sweat on his back, hurriedly swinging his sword to stab.

However, in the next second, an unexpected change occurred.

”Rip!”

The black, monkey-like creature tore the gold silk net with its two hands.
