My Silly, Sweet Wife

Ma Xiaohu had a square face and a straight posture, clearly showing that he had been a soldier.

Unlike Manager Xie, he did not nod and bow excessively, only giving a slight nod as a gesture, seeming completely indifferent to wealthy people like Ye Guichen.

After finally sending Manager Xie away, the rest of the security guards left too. However, Captain Ma Xiaohu did not leave but instead kept staring at Ye Guichen.

Feeling uneasy under Ma Xiaohu’s gaze, Ye Guichen asked, ”Captain Ma, do you still have something to say?”

Ma Xiaohu shook his head, ”No, nothing.”

”Oh, then you go ahead with your work.”

”I think I’ll stay here.” Ma Xiaohu still showed no intention of leaving.

Ye Guichen found it odd, ”Captain Ma, is there something you want to tell me?”

Ma Xiaohu opened his mouth but eventually shook his head again, his eyes avoiding Ye’s, ”No.”

”Hehe, Captain Ma, you must have been a soldier, right? And by the looks of it, you’re not good at lying either. Just tell me if there’s something on your mind.” Ye Guichen said with a playful grin, sensing that Ma Xiaohu definitely had something he was hiding.

”Mr. Ye, I...” Ma Xiaohu saw that Ye Guichen had seen through him. After a brief hesitation, he said, ”Mr. Ye, although I am the security captain here at the Phoenix Pavilion, you seem like a decent person. Pardon my bluntness, but the villas you bought are worth over a hundred million. You don’t seem to lack money. The Phoenix Pavilion has been completed for a while now, but the two villas you purchased have never been sold. Doesn’t that make you suspicious?”

Ye Guichen became interested, ”Oh? Captain Ma, speak freely, it’s all right.”

Back at the sales center, Ye Guichen indeed noticed this issue too.

The two villas he purchased were Phoenix One and Phoenix Two, each worth over a hundred million. In a place like Jinling, it’s not uncommon for people to have net worths over a billion or tens of billions.

But, despite this, those two villas hadn’t been sold.

Initially, Ye Guichen didn’t think much of it, but now that Ma Xiaohu brought it up, and upon careful consideration, he also felt there was something off.

Especially since Manager Xie had been constantly giving Ma Xiaohu warning looks earlier, almost as if warning him not to say too much.

Ma Xiaohu, looking solemn, said, ”Mr. Ye, there are things I shouldn’t say. But I still advise you to return those two villas.”

He pointed not far away, ”Look over there, there are still a few villas unsold. Although their location and environment are slightly inferior to Phoenix One and Two, they’re also several tens of millions cheaper.”

Ye Guichen grew even more curious, scanning Ma Xiaohu before shifting his gaze to the artificial lake facing the villas.

The lake water was crystal clear, surrounded by artificial rocks, yet it inexplicably gave off an eerie feeling.

However, during summer, this eerie feeling was instead refreshingly cool.

Previously, Ye Guichen hadn’t noticed this. Now, upon closer inspection, he couldn’t help but frown, channeling his energy to his eyes, he saw a faint layer of black mist hovering over the lake’s surface.

”Hmm? What’s going on there?” Ye Guichen looked at Ma Xiaohu, who seemed hesitant to speak, and directly pointed towards the lake, ”Captain Ma, did something happen over there?”

”Ah?” Ma Xiaohu was immediately stunned, surprised, ”You knew already?”

Ye Guichen shook his head, ”Not really, just a guess based on your reaction.”

Ye Guichen wouldn’t reveal that he had noticed the problem.

Because he had been focusing on the villas before, he hadn’t paid attention to the lake’s surface. Now, seeing Ma Xiaohu’s strange behavior, he quickly noticed something was wrong.

But Ma Xiaohu didn’t believe Ye Guichen’s guess and felt he was deliberately hiding it. He said, ”Mr. Ye, since you know there was an incident in the lake, you shouldn’t live here. While it’s true that I work for Phoenix Pavilion, and it’s inappropriate for me to say this, I’m worried something might happen to you. So, I advise you to return those two villas.”

Ye Guichen found Ma Xiaohu’s upright nature quite appealing and chuckled, ”Aren’t you worried that if I return those two villas, your boss might fire you?”

Ma Xiaohu gave a bitter smile, ”I don’t want to see anything bad happen to you. There are many things you might not know, but I’ve been on night duty here often, and I’ve seen several strange occurrences. Even if our boss fires me, it’s still better than seeing someone lose their life.”

Ye Guichen’s eyes shone with admiration. He stepped forward and patted Ma Xiaohu’s shoulder, ”Captain Ma, that’s enough for me. But rest assured, I won’t return those villas. In fact, I’ll live here. However, I am extremely curious about what happened here. Can you tell me the details?”

Ma Xiaohu looked at Ye Guichen suspiciously, ”Mr. Ye, you really don’t know?”

Ye Guichen laughed heartily, ”I really don’t know.”

Seeing that Ye Guichen didn’t seem to be lying, Ma Xiaohu sighed bitterly, ”Mr. Ye, you seem like a straightforward person. The incident was tightly sealed by the developers, and only a few know about it. When it happened, I was just a small security guard, but I was on the scene. To keep me quiet, the developers promoted me to security captain. But they strictly warned me that the incident must remain a secret, or else I wouldn’t just lose my job.”

Ye Guichen chuckled, knowing Ma Xiaohu wasn’t lying, and sighed, ”Alright, I won’t trouble you then.”

”Thank you, Mr. Ye, really, thank you!” Ma Xiaohu instinctively saluted, ”But, Mr. Ye, if you insist on living here, do not come out at night, no matter what happens. Especially after midnight, you and your family must stay inside, understand?”

Ye Guichen nodded, ”Thank you, Captain Ma. You can go now.”

Though unsure why Ye Guichen wouldn’t heed his advice, seeing his confident demeanor, Ma Xiaohu gave some final cautions before leaving.

However, as soon as he returned to the security office, Manager Xie stopped him.

Xie Fang sent the others away, leaving Ma Xiaohu alone in the office. He closed the door, sat on the couch, and frowned at Ma Xiaohu, ”Captain Ma, what did you just tell Mr. Ye?”

Ma Xiaohu quickly shook his head, ”Nothing, I didn’t say anything.”

”Captain Ma, you should know how you got this position. Plus, the matter in the artificial lake is not something you can talk about. It’s been years since that incident, and this Mr. Ye is obviously an outsider, unaware of the past. Since he bought the villas, and bought two at that, just do your job as a security captain and keep your mouth shut. Otherwise, not only will you lose this job, you might even lose your life, understand?”
