My Silly, Sweet Wife

”Captain Gongsun, seeing this scene, don’t you have anything to say?”

Ye Guichen looked at the chaotic lakeside and asked unhurriedly.

The relationship between Gongsun Fengying and Ye Guichen had always been ambiguous—not too close, yet not distant either.

She glanced at Ye Guichen and snorted, ”I told you everything last night. Judging from that person’s death, it seems like the legendary water monkey was involved. I still say, you shouldn’t get involved in this matter; you might risk your life. However, considering that we do know each other, I have invited a few Daoists, who should be arriving today.”

”Oh?” Ye Guichen looked at Gongsun Fengying with interest. ”You know people from the Daoist sect?”

”You needn’t worry, Captain Ye.” Gongsun Fengying turned and entered her room.

At this moment, the doorbell rang.

”Who is it!” Linglong finally got up, her voice still a bit lazy as it echoed in the living room.

Xie Fang’s voice came through, ”It’s me, Old Xie.”

”Manager Xie?” Linglong quickly walked to the door and opened it. ”Manager Xie, what are you doing here early in the morning?”

”Ahem, hello, hello, may I ask if Mr. Ye is in?” Xie Fang had a face full of smiles.

Having experienced last night’s ordeal, Linglong, who had just managed to get some good rest, seemed reminded of it upon seeing Xie Fang and snorted, ”We haven’t even gone to find you, and you actually came to us. Hmph, let’s talk about that lake…”

”Linglong!” Linglong almost revealed the matter about something being in the lake, so Ye Guichen quickly interrupted her and came to the door. ”Linglong, hurry and make breakfast.”

Linglong pouted. Though reluctant, she still gave Xie Fang a sideways glance, ”Brother, either refund us part of the money for this house, or let us return it. Hmph, otherwise, I won’t let this go easily!”

After saying this, she even flashed her adorable little canine teeth at Xie Fang in a sort of menace.

”Manager Xie, don’t mind my junior sister.” Once Linglong had gone to the kitchen, Ye Guichen didn’t invite Xie Fang inside but stepped out of the villa and came outside. ”Manager Xie, it’s good timing that you’re here. I wanted to speak with you as well.”

Xie Fang rubbed his hands, ”Mr. Ye, you know about what happened last night?”

Ye Guichen knew Xie Fang was probably here to keep him quiet, so he didn’t deny it. ”It’s hard not to know with such commotion. Manager Xie, don’t you think you should give me an explanation?”

”Hehe, it’s actually just a misunderstanding. I spoke with the security guards; it was Captain Ma on duty last night. The drowned person was a thief, and it’s a problem on our property. So, how about this: we’ll waive your property management fee for five years as compensation. How does that sound?” Xie Fang lowered his stance as much as possible.

Ye Guichen saw this and sneered, ”Manager Xie, let’s be honest. You probably know I run a medical and martial arts hall. What you might not know is that the medical path developed from the Healing Skill, which also studies unusual creatures. Let’s speak plainly, I may be from out of town, but I have connections. And guess what? I’ve dug up some surprising info.”

Ye Guichen maintained a smile as he stared at Xie Fang.

Hearing Ye Guichen’s words, Xie Fang’s mouth twitched noticeably, ”Mr. Ye, you must be joking. I don’t understand what you mean.”

”You don’t understand?” Seeing Xie Fang still feigning ignorance, Ye Guichen decided to lay it bare, ”Manager Xie, when I bought these two villas, it was because I liked the view of the lake. Now that someone has died in the lake, you want to dismiss me with just a five-year property fee waiver? You must know I’m not lacking that bit of money.”

Xie Fang looked embarrassed, ”Well, what does Mr. Ye suggest?”

”I don’t have any particular demands.” Ye Guichen patted Xie Fang on the shoulder. ”But I heard that when Phoenix Pavilion was first developed, someone died near the artificial lake. Wealthy people in Jinling who knew about this would never choose these villas. So now, having been made a fool, I feel quite unhappy.”

Xie Fang was stunned, ”Mr. Ye, you must have heard wrong. How could that be?”

Seeing Xie Fang stubbornly denying, Ye Guichen lost his patience, ”Manager Xie, at this point, still denying it? Then tell me, what about the coffin that was dug up at the artificial lake back then? Don’t tell me you don’t know. If you hope I won’t make a fuss, you need to show a reasonable attitude. If you keep evading the issue, I’m afraid I’ll not only publicize it but also make sure everyone in Jinling knows. Let’s see who will dare collaborate with Phoenix Pavilion in the future. I heard your boss has several property developments. If no one buys your houses, you should know the consequences.”

Xie Fang’s face finally darkened, ”Mr. Ye, I came over first thing this morning to discuss this properly with you. But it seems you’re asking too many questions. Also, do you think your small fortune can threaten me? To be frank, offering another five-year fee waiver is to hope we become friends since you’ve shown generosity. But your words have become a direct threat.”

”If you consider my words a threat, then take them as such!” Ye Guichen sensed the hardening in Xie Fang’s voice and retracted his smile, ”So how does Manager Xie intend to handle this?”

”As I said, the person drowned was a thief, and it’s our property’s responsibility. If you’re willing, we can waive the fee for five years; if not, there’s nothing more I can do.”

”So, there’s no room for negotiation?”

”Hehe, Mr. Ye, I know you’re young and successful, but we’ve been in Jinling for decades, and our roots are firm. If you insist, we don’t mind playing along. You have money, sure, but it doesn’t intimidate us. If you want a refund, we don’t offer one for sold houses.”

”I understand.” Seeing that Xie Fang was getting tough, Ye Guichen knew continuing was futile, so he switched the topic, ”If I’m correct, that coffin you unearthed wasn’t dealt with but buried at the lake bottom, right?”

”You, how did you…” Xie Fang was taken aback, then caught Ye Guichen’s smiling face and quickly realized, ”Haha, Mr. Ye, you’re so humorous. What coffin! Alright then, I have a lot to handle there. I must go. See you around, Mr. Ye.”

With that, he turned toward the lake.

Ye Guichen watched Xie Fang’s retreating figure, smirking.

His probing had confirmed his suspicions.

The legendary water monkey in the lake was likely connected to the coffin unearthed five years ago during Phoenix Pavilion’s development.
