After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: I’ll Take Care of Asher’s Trouble

Lancaster Group.

When Asher and I rushed to the company, some employees were still causing a scene.

”Lancaster Group is such a huge, publicly traded company, and they’re letting a fool manage it? Has our company run out of people? The chairman had an accident, so someone competent should be put in charge!”

”Exactly! On what grounds are they letting a fool run things?”

”He’s an illegitimate son of the Lancaster Family, and a madman to boot. What gives him the right to be in charge?”

Their words were vile. It was obvious someone had put them up to this.

It’s true. The darkness of human nature is magnified infinitely in the face of self-interest. As long as Master Lancaster offered them benefits and profits, they would unconditionally slander a man who had never done them any harm.

”A madman like him... how did the car crash back then not kill him instead? Why did it have to be Mr. Marcus Lancaster who died?”

”I heard that madman is a jinx.”

”I heard even the fire at that orphanage didn’t burn him to death!”

My expression darkened, and I looked at the person who had spoken.

”Asher...” I stood on my toes to cover Asher’s ears and whispered, ”Follow Assistant Foster and take the side stairs to go up.”

Asher looked at me obediently, not wanting to go by himself.

”Be good.”

Asher nodded reluctantly, lowered his gaze, and followed Assistant Foster away.

I stood at the company entrance, watching the protesters.

”How much did Master Lancaster pay you to cause such a ruckus at the company?” I walked over and asked.

These few people were clearly mid-to-high-level managers in important positions. They were confident the company wouldn’t fire them because it would be impossible to find replacements on short notice.

”Who are you?” the leader asked.

”My name is Silvia Lynch. I’m the wife of the Lancaster Group’s president,” I introduced myself in a low voice.

”Ha? You? The Lancaster Group president’s wife? The chairman had an accident, but the position of president of Lancaster Group isn’t for some fool to take. And you, as the ’president’s wife,’ have no right to throw your weight around here either.”

The leader spoke with arrogance, every other word out of his mouth insisting Asher wasn’t worthy.

”How about we give the president’s seat to you?” I smiled. ”Do you think you’re worthy?”

The man’s face fell. ”We don’t need you talking to us. Get Assistant Foster out here! Get Sebastian Lancaster out here! We don’t agree to him being the president!”

”You must be getting a lot of benefits for leading this protest, right? But how much are the people following you getting? The Lancaster Group has no shortage of talent. You don’t need to go on strike. You’re all fired,” I continued to provoke the man.

”On what grounds can you fire us? Who do you think you are?” the leader roared at me.

”On the grounds that I’m the president’s wife, and you’re not doing your job properly and are disrupting the company’s normal operations. If we don’t fire you, what should we do? Keep you around for the holidays?” I glanced at the lobby’s security camera and shifted my position slightly.

The man angrily stepped forward, pointing at me to argue.

I channeled Asher’s acting skills, took one step forward, and then quickly fell to the ground, clutching my stomach. ”Why did you push me...” I said in a pained voice.

The leader was dumbfounded. ”What are you talking about? I didn’t even touch you.”

I looked at the others in pain. ”I know this has nothing to do with the rest of you. He’s the one who pushed me. The baby in my belly is the heir to the Lancaster Family. If anything really happens, I’ll only hold him responsible...”

’How considerate of me.’

Everyone else was stunned. In the chaos just now, no one had seen whether he had actually laid a hand on me. My acting was very convincing as I cried out painfully to the security guards. ”Call the police! Help me call the police! He assaulted me!”

The man was left speechless and completely lost his composure. ”Stop faking it! I didn’t...”

”You were the closest. I know *you* didn’t do it... You saw him push me, right? Don’t worry, I know who to blame. I’m only pressing charges against him,” I said, looking at a person standing to the side, sowing discord.

That person panicked and looked at the leader. ”No...”

The leader was desperate for his companion to explain on his behalf.

But in this situation, the other person could only say they didn’t see. ”No, I didn’t get a clear look...”

The police arrived quickly, and Assistant Foster helped me into an ambulance.

”We suspect this man, Jacob Miller, has accepted bribes. His wife informed us that Jacob has a mistress, and a million in cash was found at her home. Now he has openly assaulted someone in an attempt to harm our president’s wife and her unborn child. This is a case of murder for hire.” Assistant Foster spoke in front of everyone, his voice low but just loud enough for all to hear.

The faces of the crowd, who had originally just wanted to follow along and get some benefits, all turned pale.

Apparently, only the leader had received the million-dollar benefit.

Regardless of how this matter would ultimately be resolved, their little group had already fallen apart.

Sitting in the ambulance, I glanced at Assistant Foster. On the way here, I’d simply told him to take out the leader first, and he’d already found the man’s every weakness.

I had a strange feeling that everything I could think of, Owen Foster had already thought of long before. He was just keeping quiet and playing along with me...

I was having a blast with my little scheme, feeling quite clever, but something still felt off.

’Am I really the one protecting and helping Asher?’

’If I hadn’t stepped in... could Owen Foster not have solved this himself?’

”Ma’am, it’s all been handled as you instructed.” After the police took Jacob Miller away, Assistant Foster came over to report to me.

I opened my mouth to speak. He was giving me way too much credit. ’Handled as you instructed?’ I had only told him step one, and he’d already completed up to step one hundred. This kind of flattery... it sent a chill down my spine. ”Ah... you didn’t tell Asher, did you? I’m afraid he’ll worry. I’m fine.”

”Sir doesn’t know. Once things here are taken care of, he’ll go to the hospital to meet you for your prenatal check-up. I’ll just tell him you went on ahead.” Owen Foster’s arrangements were flawless.

I nodded. ”Alright.”

Before the ambulance left, I glanced out the window. I don’t know if it was my imagination, but I felt like Asher was watching me from upstairs.

「...」

The ambulance had barely been at the hospital for a moment before Asher arrived.

”Cece... you didn’t wait for me.” Asher lowered his gaze, a wronged look on his face.

I looked around. The ambulance ride had been perfectly smooth. ’I didn’t wait for him? It was more like I’d made him wait for me.’

”Well... I was afraid you were busy with work,” I soothed him quietly.

Asher gripped my hand, a little nervous. ”Cece... I’m going to be a dad, right?”

I paused for a second. The child was indeed his, no doubt about it. ”What do you think? Should I find another father for this child?”

Asher’s eyes instantly darkened, and the hand holding my fingers tightened. ”You can’t.”

I smiled. ”Is everything at the company handled?”

”Cece... Owen Foster told me everything.” Asher’s expression changed in a flash, and he spoke with excitement and joy, seeming very dependent on me. ”It was your idea, Cece, that helped me deal with those people. You’re so smart.”

I felt a little guilty, but I couldn’t put my finger on what the problem was. ”If you run into trouble in the future, tell me ahead of time.”

A wave of protectiveness washed over me, filling me with confidence.

’I’ve been reborn, after all. You think I can’t handle this scum?’

’As long as I’m here, no one will ever bully the people I care about again.’

”Cece, you’re the best. What would I ever do without you...” Asher was still acting cute, hugging me and saying how much he relied on me, how he couldn’t live if I ever left him.

I felt like I was spoiling him rotten. ’But then again,’ I thought, ’what else can I do? Besides doting on him, what other choice do I have?’
