After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad

Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Silvia Lynch’s Death Was a Suicide

”Was this from Charlie?” I asked in a low voice, looking urgently into Asher’s eyes.

He was still evasive. ”Cece... is your grandmother feeling better?”

He was changing the subject.

I knew Asher was full of secrets. From the very beginning, I only got close to him because I wanted to uncover them.

Otherwise, Lucas Grant wouldn’t be watching Asher so intently.

But the closer I got, I discovered it wasn’t just Asher who had too many secrets; the original Silvia Lynch had plenty of her own.

And not only that, but now I’m even starting to doubt myself...

’What else is hidden in the memories I’ve forgotten?’

’Why did Julian Fletcher say I used to have a mental illness? What kind of mental illness...?’

’Is it really a coincidence that I was reborn in Silvia Lynch’s body?’

There were too many things that were terrifying to think about.

After taking Asher back to his room, I had a nurse scold him, re-tape his IV port, and confirm he was okay to walk around. Only then did I take his hand and lead him to Miss Lynch’s room.

”Grandma, have some water.”

Julian Fletcher was in the room, taking care of her.

I frowned, annoyed. This man could barely take care of himself, let alone anyone else. He was a typical rich young master who had everything handed to him, and now here he was, fawning over my grandmother in her hospital room.

”President Fletcher, this is my grandmother. You can leave now.” I walked over and snatched the glass of water from Julian Fletcher’s hand.

Julian Fletcher lowered his eyes and said nothing.

Grandma was already awake, leaning against the headboard. She seemed very fond of Julian Fletcher. ”Silvia, why are you talking to Julian like that? He was just being kind. When I collapsed, it was all thanks to him. While you were away, he was the one who kept coming to take care of me. If he hadn’t found me in time... Grandma wouldn’t have been able to see you again.”

I froze for a moment, frowning at Julian Fletcher.

’So he started cozying up to Miss Lynch even before this.’

’What is he really after?’

At the doorway, Asher’s eyes were cold as he stared at Julian Fletcher. He had probably met someone who was an even better actor than he was.

”Cece...” Asher called my name softly.

I reached out, pulled Asher over, and introduced him to Grandma. ”Grandma, this is my husband, Sebastian Lancaster. You can call him Asher.”

Grandma glanced at Asher, looking a little displeased. ”You’ve been married for so long and haven’t even come to see your grandma once. It’s always been Julian running around, helping out.”

”Grandma, Sebastian Lancaster is sick. He probably can’t even take care of himself, so it’s best he doesn’t come and upset you,” Julian Fletcher said quietly, clearly trying to stir up trouble.

Julian Fletcher knew me. He knew how much I cared about what my family thought.

But the me he knew was the one from before he ”killed” me.

Or rather, the me who had lost a crucial piece of my memory after the car accident at eighteen.

Back then, I was drowning in grief over my parents’ deaths. Anxiety and depression enveloped me like a dark Hell. I could barely live on my own. I needed a home that seemed warm, like a safe harbor.

That’s why, even though I was already eighteen, I was still grateful to Mrs. Fletcher for taking me in and giving me a home, because I couldn’t live independently at the time.

I had indeed forgotten many things, but I had never once suspected it myself.

It wasn’t as if my memories had vanished into thin air. It was more like they had been deleted...

Grandma looked at Sebastian Lancaster reluctantly, complaining that a mentally ill person couldn’t provide a better life for her granddaughter. ”What a tragedy...”

But the one who was originally supposed to marry Sebastian Lancaster was her own biological granddaughter, Noelle Lynch.

”Silvia, did Noelle say if she’s coming to see me?” Grandma cared a lot about Noelle.

At first, I was worried that since Miss Lynch had raised Silvia, she would recognize at a glance that I wasn’t her. But now, it seemed that was a completely unnecessary fear.

She didn’t seem to care much about Silvia. She was more concerned with her biological granddaughter, Noelle.

”Grandma, she’s not coming to see you.” I shattered her illusion directly.

Grandma sighed in disappointment. ”Forget it, then. Forget it.”

Julian Fletcher glanced at the time. ”Grandma, I’m going back to my room for now. Call me if you need anything.”

Grandma nodded with a smile. ”Alright, alright. Our Silvia is so lucky to have met you.”

Asher had been standing to the side the whole time. Usually, he was good at being charming, but he hadn’t said a single word. The air around him felt cold and detached.

I had a feeling he didn’t like Silvia’s grandmother.

”Silvia, really, your parents... how could they force you to marry into the Lancaster Family? How much was the betrothal gift? Grandma raised you for all these years. The money can’t all go to your biological parents. You have to give some to Grandma first, you know?” Grandma said with a pleasant look on her face, as if she were very concerned about Silvia.

My expression stiffened. I had an indescribable feeling about Silvia’s grandmother.

She was completely different from what I had imagined.

I thought she genuinely cared for Silvia, but now it seemed... that wasn’t the case.

”Silvia, give Noelle a call and ask her to come see Grandma,” she said in a low voice, completely ignoring Sebastian Lancaster. She probably thought Asher was an idiot. ”Also, before I was hospitalized, your brother mentioned wanting to buy a house. Even though he’s not your real brother, you grew up in our family, and your uncle raised you, didn’t he?”

When I didn’t say anything, Grandma spoke again in a hushed tone. ”Silvia, that fool... does he have any money? Can he pay for your brother’s house? It doesn’t have to be too big, just a hundred-something square meters inside Meridia’s Second Ring Road would be fine. It would be even better if he could buy a car, too.”

I stared at Miss Lynch in shock. A hundred-plus-square-meter house inside Meridia’s Second Ring Road? Even the most ordinary ones cost two to three hundred thousand per square meter. Was she crazy, or was Sebastian Lancaster? Why on earth should he buy a house for some completely unrelated person?

”Grandma, he’s dirt poor. He has no status at all in the Lancaster Family. Because his mind isn’t right, everyone bullies us,” I said, pretending to be aggrieved.

But Miss Lynch completely ignored the part about me being bullied and spoke again. ”So, he’s not as good as that young Julian. He’s the president of some big company, right? He can definitely afford it. I can see he’s interested in you. Why don’t you mention it to him?”

”Grandma, Asher is still injured. I’m going to take him back to his room first. You get some rest. I’ll come see you another day.” I ignored Miss Lynch’s request, turned, and pulled Asher out of the room.

”Silvia, have you grown bold now that you’re back with your biological parents?” Miss Lynch said angrily.

’Is this old hag nuts?’

I originally thought Silvia had been coerced by Jude Lynch out of a sense of gratitude, but now it seemed the real truth was to just let this family self-destruct.

”Do you know how Silvia’s adoptive parents died?” Asher asked in a low voice in the hallway.

Right now, he didn’t look like a fool at all.

”Huh?” I really didn’t know how Silvia’s adoptive parents had died.

”Resisting arrest. Accidental death,” Asher said in a low voice.

That’s also why he detested Silvia in the beginning. ”Human traffickers.”

The whole family. Human traffickers.

Silvia’s grandmother was also a human trafficker. She would deliberately take Silvia to get friendly with stray children, but in reality, she was waiting for buyers to make their move.

I looked at Asher in shock. ’Had he investigated this long ago?’

Silvia Lynch really did have a lot of secrets.

”Silvia, are you okay...?” Just as we got on the elevator, I seemed to run into someone who knew Silvia.

She greeted me and asked if I was okay. I was a bit dazed. ”Huh? I’m fine...”

”You scared me to death. You got so much quinidine from me that day. I was afraid you were going to do something rash.” The acquaintance sighed in relief. ”You said it was for your grandma, but I pried a little and asked the doctor, who said your grandma had already gotten her medicine. I was so scared back then. I couldn’t get in touch with you at all. I was worried you were having those thoughts again...”

My body went stiff. ’Quinidine?’ ”Do you remember when I got the quinidine?”

The person hesitated. ”It was the 17th of last month.”

I subconsciously glanced at Asher. That was the day Silvia died. The day I was reborn.

’Silvia’s death wasn’t an accident. She deliberately took a large dose of quinidine, causing a fatal cardiotoxic reaction and sudden death?’

Silvia Lynch had committed suicide.
