Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1049: Chapter 1043: Unaware of Daughter’s Choice_1

“Hmm, I don’t know what the Imperial Capital is thinking. Our daughter and son-in-law aren’t soldiers, so why are they being dispatched? They are just ordinary citizens.” Nangong Shulan knew that her daughter and son-in-law had been reassigned, which truly filled her with confusion. She was reluctant to affirm her own thoughts.

“What’s there to wonder about? Perhaps some superior officer saw some talent in our Qin Xue and wanted her to help with something like cooking. So can you stop worrying about this?” Qin Lei looked at his wife, unsure of how to explain Qin Xue’s situation to her.

After their daughter and son-in-law left yesterday, he asked Fang Xiu and Xue Ling and found out Qinxue had self-studied to earn her doctor qualification. Now she’s in the hospital and a state employee. How could he tell his wife about this? He knew his wife had guesses, but was just too afraid to believe.

His wife had always been against their three children joining the army, but now their eldest daughter had secretly earned her doctor’s certificate and was going to help with the rescue. This was already a fixed situation. Even if his wife wanted to object, there was nothing she could do. Sigh, better to keep it a secret for now. Keep it hidden as long as possible and wait until his wife was ready to acknowledge it, and then he would explain to her.

Qin Yu and Qin Yun finally returned home before the New Year, but when they arrived, Qin Xue and Chu Molin had not yet returned.

“Mom, Dad, little sister, I’m home,” Qin Yu called out as soon as he opened the door.

“Qin Yu, how can you come back without even telling us? We thought you weren’t coming home for the holidays.” Nangong Shulan reprimanded him at first sight. What could she do? Her daughter was never worry-free, and now her son wasn’t either. He came back without notifying them, causing them to worry unnecessarily. It was a wonder she didn’t punish him.

“Mom, it was a last-minute decision. Business was so good that I didn’t want to come back, but I ran out of stock. So I had to close the shop and come home for the holidays. When it’s time, I’ll find my sister and ask her to help me brew some more alcohol,” Qin Yu whispered into his mother’s ear.

“Your sister and brother-in-law aren’t home. You chose a bad time to return.” Nangong Shulan heard her son’s words, wanted to say something more, but ultimately didn’t.

“Eh, Mom, you mean, sister and her husband have returned too?” Qin Yu asked excitedly when he heard his mother’s words.

“They did return, but they were dispatched to do rescue work on their third day of being back at home. They are not at home now, and we have no idea when they’ll be back,” Nangong Shulan worried as soon as she mentioned her daughter and son-in-law.

“Mom, I’m sure my sister and her husband will be fine. Brother just got home, shouldn’t you at least let him come in to warm up a bit? Why are you keeping him standing at the door?” Qin Jiale came out when she heard her brother’s voice and saw her mother blocking him in the yard, not even allowing him to come inside to drink some hot water and warm up. She wondered what they were discussing, and upon getting closer, she found out they were worried about her sister and brother-in-law.

“Oh my, what was I thinking? Take your luggage back to your room. I will cook you some noodles to fill your stomach. We just finished lunch, so dinner won’t be ready for a while,” Nangong Shulan realized her blunder after hearing her daughter’s voice.

“Mom, it’s alright, don’t rush,” Qin Yu looked at his mother and smiled. Home was always the best—there was someone to care for you, and you could eat homemade meals whenever hungry. However, once kids grew up, they had to leave home. So no matter how good home was, he had to go out and strive in order to provide a good life for his parents and sister.

Qin Yu did not regret struggling outside. What he wanted in life was not to farm at home, so he had to work hard to achieve the life he desired.
