Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1664: Chapter 1662: Another Companion

”What’s going on?”

Seeing Meiyin excitedly bringing Mel to his room, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but be puzzled.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, I’ve found another companion!”

As she spoke, Meiyin pushed Mel in front of Fang Zheng.

”Companion?”

Hearing Meiyin’s words, Fang Zheng was initially confused, then suddenly realized.

”You’re a transmigrator too?”

”Ah, yes, um... sorry...”

Faced with Fang Zheng, Mel was noticeably less lively than she was with Meiyin. She blushed slightly, bowed her head respectfully to Fang Zheng, and offered a polite greeting. Although Mel was also surprised that her employer was a transmigrator, in this unfamiliar world, seeing a companion still gave her some comfort.

”So what’s your situation?”

”Well, I’m...”

Compared to Meiyin, Mel’s story of transmigration seemed quite conventional. She was originally a high school girl named Kairi Kurihara from modern Japan. One day, while trying to save a child crossing the street, she was hit by a truck and died, then found herself in another world. There, she encountered a deity who promised to grant her one wish.

Mel’s wish was, ”I hope to make normal friends and live a normal life in the next life, so my ability level should just be at this world’s average!”

Just like that, she transmigrated to this world and experienced various events. Now, she’s living and acting as an adventurer under the name Mel...

”Live a normal life? But you don’t seem ordinary at all!”

Fang Zheng still remembered Mel’s indifferent reaction to his Dragon Might. Although Fang Zheng hadn’t fully unleashed it at the time, being able to withstand his Dragon Might wasn’t something ordinary.

”I don’t want this either, but somehow that deity gave me half the ability value of this world’s strongest creature, an Ancient Dragon...”

”Huh?”

Fang Zheng and Meiyin were both stunned by Mel’s response.

”That’s not an average value, that’s more like a median value!”

”Shouldn’t the highest and lowest values be removed, and then calculate the average?”

”That’s what I thought too!”

Mel was almost in tears.

”Who knew it would turn out like this...”

”Let’s just say that so-called deity isn’t too bright.”

Fang Zheng shrugged helplessly. Fortunately, Mel’s ability value wasn’t too outrageous strictly speaking. Given her explanation, the deity gave her ”half of the strongest living creature’s ability value in this world.” Deity and Demon King surely aren’t considered a ”creature,” and besides, considering ”living,” the Crimson Dragon God and Water Dragon King are considered dead, so giving half of an Ancient Dragon’s ability value isn’t too excessive either.

As for the Golden Nightmare King, there’s no need to think about it, as that one isn’t part of ”this world” at all.

”But speaking of which, who reincarnated you here, with such low intelligence?”

”Um... she said she was Aqua, Goddess of Water...”

At this, Mel also sighed. After all, she was a Goddess of Water and looked like a super beautiful girl from the anime world. Generally, a water attribute usually relates to wisdom in anime, so Mel didn’t think much of it at the time... Who knew it would turn out like this!

Could she have encountered a fake goddess?

”But it doesn’t matter, haha... But I must remind you, if you hope to live an ordinary life in this world, forget about it.”

”Huh?”

Both Meiyin and Mel were puzzled by this.

”Why is that?”

”Let me ask you something first.”

Hearing the question, Fang Zheng didn’t immediately answer but instead looked at them and asked in return.

”The ordinary life you hope for, is it the same as back in the original world, living peacefully, going out with friends, then growing up like that?”

”Yes, yes, yes!!!”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s question, both Meiyin and Mel nodded, and seeing their reactions, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but chuckle.

”It seems you really don’t understand what a fantasy world means.”

”......?”

Hearing this, the two exchanged a puzzled glance, and then Meiyin spoke first.

”Well... I know that life in this world is quite tough, and there’s a big gap between social statuses...”

In this regard, Meiyin has had ”firsthand experience.” Although she had read about it in books before, she never imagined that the power of the nobility would be so great that they could easily decide the life and death of a group of commoners without any need to consider their opinions. No need for judgment, not even any evidence; as long as they feel displeased, they can imprison or even execute the commoners... something Meiyin never thought of before.

She never imagined it would fall upon herself.

”It’s not that simple.”

Looking at the two naive little girls in front of him, Fang Zheng decided to give them a lesson. One was a college student, the other just a high schooler, neither had experienced the harsh realities of society, which is why they had such naive thoughts. In fact, once they enter society and start working, their views might change. Modern society may be peaceful, but fierce competition is still everywhere. In student days, they can rely on their parents, but once they step into society, they need to strive on their own.

”You need to know that in this world, there are deities and the Demon Clan. Let’s not talk about what deities are like, but... do you know the goal of the Demon Clan?”

”...........”

The two exchanged a glance and shook their heads.

”Take a guess?”

”To rule the world?”

Mel gave a reason that’s common in many anime works. After all, generally speaking, isn’t the ultimate goal of villains like the Demon Clan to rule the world?

”Wrong.”

Fang Zheng waved his hand.

”It’s to destroy the world.”

”........ Eh?”

”According to the legend of this world, all things originated from the Mother of Chaos, and the Mother of Chaos—the Golden Nightmare King is the mother of all things, the most revered symbol of the Demon Clan. Therefore, the goal of the Demon Clan is to destroy this world, letting everything return to the Mother of Chaos and reunite with it. So... do you understand now?”

Saying this, Fang Zheng spread his hands.

”This world is not peaceful at all, and it could be destroyed at any moment. In fact, you might not know this, but just a few days ago, the world was almost destroyed. At the time, a fragment avatar of the Demon Lord Shabranigdo, who was sealed, awakened and was defeated by a Magitech Practitioner... of course, this is an exception. In fact, if that Magitech Practitioner hadn’t defeated the Demon Lord’s avatar, it would have controlled the demon creature army and completely destroyed everything.”

”There’s... such a thing?!”

Hearing this, Meiyin and Mel’s faces instantly turned pale.

”Yes, that’s how it is.”

Fang Zheng shrugged his shoulders.

”So you have to remember, this world is not your original world, and the threat of the Demon Clan to this world is real, which is also why various countries and factions hope to acquire people with powerful abilities. Meiyin, you should understand this point.”

”Hmm... yes.”

Upon hearing this, Meiyin felt a bit dejected. She was noticed by the Temple mainly because of her powerful magic power. In fact, at that time, Meiyin hadn’t yet encountered magic, so she couldn’t quite understand these things. After all, she lived in the city and wasn’t aware of the dangers outside.

Only Meiyin didn’t expect that there would be such a background, which surprised her somewhat.

”So, does that mean we can’t live a normal life?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Mel was still not willing to give up.

”Of course you can, but the question is, do you want to? Do you know what kind of life ordinary people live in this world? Can you really accept their way of life? For example, let’s take you, Mel. You are a noble, right? In the future, your family will surely use you as a tool for political marriage. Of course, your strength is sufficient, but in your family’s eyes, it just improves the bargaining chip in the marriage, like if they originally just wanted to marry you to a noble, they might want to marry you to a Lord or King instead—this world doesn’t have free love, and don’t expect anyone to support you. If you want to say ’I don’t want to marry any Lord King, I just want to marry someone I love,’ then others will just see you as a madman... The conflicts of a world are not just differences in worldviews but also cultural and customary differences. The life of ordinary people in this world is entirely different from your values.”

”Mhm mhm mhm.”

Compared to Mel, Meiyin had a deeper understanding of this, nodding vehemently in agreement, while Mel looked down, crestfallen. After all, she was a noble and didn’t comprehend this as deeply as Meiyin, who was born in a poor family. Although Mel had suffered a lot along the way, she still subconsciously believed ”this is just a product of the noble class,” not realizing it was a fundamental difference and opposition in the world’s value system.

Saying this, Fang Zheng slightly curled his lips and looked at Mel.

”By the way, if you want to know what an ordinary adventurer in this world is like, I can give you a piece of advice.”

”Eh? But I’m already an adventurer?”

”I’m talking about ordinary adventurers; you are not considered an ordinary adventurer.”

Fang Zheng shook his head.

”You’ve seen those three girls around me, right? They are... hmm, at least more ordinary than you. Take your squad and go on a mission with them, then you’ll know what ordinary adventurers are like.”

Saying this, Fang Zheng smiled faintly.

”Oh, just go kill some Goblins.”
