Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1660: Chapter 1658: Congratulations on Taking the First Step (Sleeping Curled Up)

After learning about the situation from the Priestess of the Goddess, Fang Zheng immediately used his personal terminal to contact Meiyin. As soon as the call connected, he heard Meiyin’s panicked voice from the other side.

”Help me! Mr. Fang Zheng!”

”Oh? You still have the energy to shout, so it seems you’re doing well.”

Even though Meiyin’s cries sounded pitiful, Fang Zheng could see through the screen that Meiyin wasn’t being tortured or anything, so it seemed she was doing alright. Therefore, he made a joke.

”Doing well, my foot.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s joke, Meiyin immediately shouted out.

”I’m down on my luck right now!”

”Alright, alright, don’t worry, tell me what’s going on.”

Seeing Meiyin’s frantic demeanor, Fang Zheng put away his smile and consoled her, then began to enquire. Faced with Fang Zheng’s question, Meiyin hesitated for a moment but nonetheless recounted the story in a small, somewhat embarrassed voice.

After hearing it, Fang Zheng almost died of laughter.

It all started when Meiyin went to the temple to receive a baptism. Since only children of the same age are allowed into the temple for the ceremony, Meiyin’s parents and sister were unable to accompany her, so she went in alone. Initially, everything was normal; a cleric came up and started to recount the legends of the gods, like the Goddess of Water, Aqua, the Goddess of Luck, Eris, and the God of Flames, Loki. Meiyin just regarded it as a story session.

But the problem arose after the storytelling when the cleric announced, ”Let us offer our prayers to the gods,” and then struck a pose so ridiculously funny that Meiyin didn’t even know how to describe it.

”What kind of pose was so funny?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng’s curiosity was piqued. He had never attended a baptism ceremony before, but since Meiyin, a person from modern times, found it funny, it must truly be hilarious.

”Can you mimic it for me?”

”No way... It’s too embarrassing!”

”If you don’t, I’ll hang up the call.”

”That’s too much! Mr. Fang Zheng!”

Although Meiyin knew Fang Zheng was joking, she still blushed. After a moment of hesitation, she raised her hands above her head, lifted her left foot, and tilted her head forward, striking a pose reminiscent of a crane spreading its wings.

”Prayers to the gods!”

”Hahahahahahaha!!!!”

Seeing this, Fang Zheng burst into laughter.

”What a ridiculous pose... I can’t take it... hahaha... are the clerics in this world so foolish? Hahaha... I need to laugh some more... hahaha...!”

Fang Zheng pounded the table as he laughed uncontrollably. Heaven and earth bear witness, he’s traveled through so many worlds and witnessed countless rituals dedicated to gods or demons, but it’s the first time he’s seen such a ridiculous pose. Fang Zheng could understand why Meiyin couldn’t help herself; if it were him, he probably would have rolled on the floor laughing.

Thank goodness the Priestess of the Goddess isn’t from this temple, otherwise, just imagining her holding a staff, performing a crane pose in front of a creature, and saying ”Prayers to the gods” makes me laugh... Who came up with such a foolish and idiotic pose? The people in this temple must all be idiots. This kind of stupidity... I could live off this joke for a year!

”Mr. Fang Zheng, you’re too much!!”

Watching Fang Zheng on the screen, Meiyin’s face was flushed with anger as she began to protest loudly.

”Sorry, sorry... cough cough, go on, go on, what then?”

Even Fang Zheng was rolling on the floor from laughter, let alone Meiyin. The more painful thing was that she couldn’t laugh out loud like Fang Zheng. Since the ceremony was supposed to be solemn, everyone else had serious faces. If she were the only one laughing, it would be too disrespectful. However, precisely because of this, it made her want to laugh even more.

It’s like a solemn meeting where the speaker, wearing an expression as if ”the fate of the whole world is in our hands,” starts dancing a square dance, and the audience also wears expressions as if ”the fate of the Earth is being decided today.” The comedic effect is hundreds of times greater than a simple comedy show.

As a result, the more Meiyin tried to hold it in, the more she couldn’t. Especially after seeing the serious expressions next to her, she almost burst out laughing. But all she could do was suppress it, and suppress it she did... until Meiyin just passed out.

”Hahaha......!”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng laughed again.

”Passing out from suppressed laughter, you’re the first I’ve seen in all my life!”

”That’s too much! Mr. Fang Zheng, that’s not the main point! The main point is what happened afterward!”

”Alright, alright, go on.”

According to Meiyin, she wore new clothes for today’s baptism ceremony—though they were new clothes, they were actually the ones her sister Dolly wore at last year’s baptism ceremony. Meiyin had used the skills she learned from helping her mom with crafts in the modern world to make improvements, making the originally plain clothes look more luxurious than the attire of nobility... Hmm, it’s the usual routine of a transmigrator, Fang Zheng said calmly.

Because of this, Meiyin was believed to be a child of nobility, and so when she fainted, she was taken to the resting room for nobility in the temple.

When she woke up, she wanted to go home, but as she walked, she got lost and ended up at the temple’s library...

”And then? You met an old man who said he could teach you the secrets of heaven and earth?”

”What old man, I never went in at all!”

At this point, Meiyin puffed out her cheeks. When she saw the library, her obsession with books naturally flared up, but to her surprise, she never even got inside! She was blocked by a transparent wall at the entrance!

At that moment, a man dressed as a cleric called out to Meiyin and brought her to the High Priest of the temple. Initially, it was supposed to be just a few polite exchanges, and Meiyin would take her leave. However, having time-traveled and been reborn into this world, it was her first time seeing a library, so she couldn’t resist. She directly asked the High Priest for permission to enter the library, but unsurprisingly, she was refused.

And then... Meiyin, in a moment of foolishness, came up with a ridiculous idea.

She proposed donating two Gold Coins to the temple in exchange for access to the library to read!

Two Gold Coins is no small sum; it’s like a child walking into a convenience store with a thousand bucks to buy bubble gum in the modern world. This naturally startled the High Priest, who immediately began inquiring about Meiyin’s background. Meiyin quickly gave an honest answer.

But to Meiyin’s surprise, after learning that her parents were just commoners, the High Priest suddenly turned hostile and ordered her immediate arrest for trespassing into the temple’s restricted area.

Still too young.

Watching the fuming Meiyin, Fang Zheng shook his head helplessly. Well, this is what happens to students who haven’t faced the harsh realities of society. If they step into the real world, they’d probably be utterly taken advantage of.

Meiyin never expected the nobility here to be so shameless, turning hostile at the drop of a hat. After all, in modern society, she’d never encountered such things, leading to her great fury, especially since the High Priest even suspected her parents of trying to desecrate a deity and threatened to arrest her whole family.

This greatly enraged Meiyin, and she stared at the High Priest, scaring him into fainting!

”Wow, your protagonist aura isn’t bad at all.”

”I don’t want this kind of aura...”

After that, Meiyin also fainted and was restrained. She later learned from the High Priest that she possessed powerful magic power, and the reason the High Priest fainted was because Meiyin had unconsciously used her magic power to intimidate him.

”I knew it.”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng slapped his thigh.

”How could you have time-traveled and not have a cheat? Cheer up, little girl, becoming a Great Mage is just ahead of you!”

”What Great Mage, I might just end up being a cleric now!”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s teasing, Meiyin angrily jumped up. She quickly explained her current situation to Fang Zheng---attacking the High Priest is a serious crime, and the High Priest told Meiyin that if she wants to ensure her family’s safety, she must stay and become a cleric, as the temple needs people with abundant magic power. If Meiyin becomes a cleric, her family won’t be arrested...

This left Meiyin in a panic. She never expected her momentary impulse would almost land her parents in jail...

Not only that, but Meiyin also heard from the temple’s people that she might end up as a gray-clad cleric, mainly tasked with serving the nobility flowers—well, that’s a polite way of saying that she’d grow up to be a plaything for the nobility!

Meiyin was completely stunned.

She, a modern-day university student, never imagined she would face such a future! Luckily, Meiyin wasn’t entirely foolish. She’d kept the personal terminal Fang Zheng gave her hidden on her person, undiscovered by others. She had been thinking of trying to contact Fang Zheng, but she didn’t expect him to find her first. This was indeed a relief for Meiyin.

”Alright, I understand now.”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng finally grasped the whole situation.

”Aren’t you going to try it yourself? This is the first step for a transmigrator. If you overcome it, you’ll unlock your protagonist aura, and the world will be your oyster.”

”I don’t want to; I just want to read!”

”Alright, leave it to me to solve.”

Hearing Meiyin’s response, Fang Zheng shrugged his shoulders. He could guess that this was probably Meiyin’s first ”quest” as a transmigrator, but since she wasn’t interested, Fang Zheng decided not to just sit back and watch... After all, as a fellow transmigrator, he should lend a helping hand.
