Chapter 716: Chapter 717: The Death of Xu Jiayi (24th Update)

Just as those people were about to make a move, Lin Chen stretched out his hand to stop them, ”Wait a second, Xu Jiayi and Sha Kun were good friends. Why would she kill Lieutenant Sha Kun?”

Tom gave a bitter smile, ”I don’t want to believe it either, but the person who shot Lieutenant Sha Kun in the video is indeed Xu Jiayi.”

”Tom, you’re not joking, are you? Is Lieutenant Sha Kun really dead?” Xu Jiayi’s face showed a shocked expression.

”Do I look like I’m joking?” Tom sighed.

Lin Chen frowned deeply, he could never believe that Xu Jiayi killed Sha Kun.

This matter was either a conspiracy or a mistake.

Lin Chen nodded, ”Alright, then I’ll go with you.”

Xu Jiayi was handcuffed and pushed into the car by two guards.

Lin Chen patted Xu Jiayi’s shoulder, ”Don’t worry, I will figure out the truth.”

Xu Jiayi’s mood was very low upon hearing that Sha Kun was dead.

Just having started their careers together, Xu Jiayi and Sha Kun had spent so much time together over the years. Sha Kun often took care of her, frequently inviting her to his house, and the two could be considered close friends who shared everything. Yet today, Sha Kun had been killed.

Upon arriving at the military headquarters, Lin Chen went straight to Emon’s office.

The office was filled with smoke, clearly Emon had been smoking a lot lately.

”Captain, what exactly happened with Sha Kun?” Lin Chen asked.

”I watched the video, it showed Xu Jiayi shooting Sha Kun,” Emon said in a low tone.

Lin Chen stared at Emon, ”Do you also believe that Jiayi killed Sha Kun?”

Emon slammed his fist heavily on the table, ”No matter who it is, I will not let them go.”

Just then, heartbreaking cries were heard from outside, and Lin Chen and Emon hurried out.

They saw Emon’s wife being supported by two female officers as she walked out of the morgue.

Emon clenched his fists so tightly they crackled, ”No matter who killed Sha Kun, I’ll make them pay with their life.”

After Xu Jiayi was captured, she was locked in a cell. Lin Chen wanted to visit her but was denied access.

Lin Chen was certain this was a conspiracy. From any perspective, Xu Jiayi would not have killed Sha Kun, and Lin Chen had asked Wei Ling — Xu Jiayi had gone home and slept that afternoon, but Sha Kun was shot at seven in the evening.

”Who could be framing Jiayi!”

Lin Chen watched the video, his gaze narrowing slightly.

The conversation at the beginning was fairly normal, but at the last moment, Sha Kun seemed to have seen something odd, his expression becoming agitated.

Even so, this was not enough to prove Xu Jiayi’s innocence.

The affair had caused a huge uproar in the military department and was the source of many rumors.

Some said Xu Jiayi was Sha Kun’s mistress, and killed him in a fit of rage when a marriage proposal was rejected.

Others claimed Xu Jiayi was a spy and had been discovered by Sha Kun, who she then killed to silence him.

Lin Chen did not believe any of these theories, but the adversary had been too meticulous, and Lin Chen was unable to find any flaw.

The next day, major newspapers and television stations extensively reported the murder, absurdly defining Xu Jiayi as the killer in the reports.

In recent days, Lin Chen had also been trying all means to find evidence of Xu Jiayi’s innocence, but to no avail.

What made Lin Chen more anxious was that this incident had enraged the military’s higher-ups, leading to a military court trial and a direct death sentence for Xu Jiayi.

The situation kept developing unfavorably, and Lin Chen was burning with impatience.

In this matter, Lin Chen had sought out Emon, but this usually clever guy was as dumb as a block of wood.

He even told Lin Chen nonsense like the lack of clues further proved Xu Jiayi was the killer.

Tomorrow was the day Xu Jiayi would be executed, and Lin Chen knew he couldn’t wait any longer.

He made up his mind, he would break into the prison that night.

Now that he knew Xu Jiayi was not the murderer, Lin Chen couldn’t just watch her being framed unto death.

After all, Xu Jiayi was his friend, and even more, his comrade-in-arms.

The night had deepened, and Lin Chen had disguised himself using the popularity system before driving to the military prison.

After getting out of the car, Lin Chen used the Invisibility Technique, ready to enter the prison.

But just at that moment, the prison alarms suddenly went off.

Lin Chen was shocked, ”Could someone have broken into the prison before me?”

Just then, a dark figure rushed out from inside the prison and quickly got into a car speeding away.

Although the distance was over a hundred meters, Lin Chen recognized that the person getting into the car was Xu Jiayi.

Indeed someone had broken into the prison ahead of time, Lin Chen hurriedly got back into his car and stepped on the gas to follow that car.

The whole city of Mansi suddenly erupted into chaos as military vehicles burst out of the army base to surround the military vehicle Xu Jiayi was escaping in.

Lin Chen closely followed the military vehicle driven by Xu Jiayi, and as the cars passed through a tunnel, his car was blocked by a large truck.

When Lin Chen passed the large truck, his gaze became intense, because at the end of the road, he saw a person.

The person was none other than Emon, who was standing in the middle of the road holding a rocket launcher.

Suddenly, a cold smile crossed Emon’s lips, and he pressed the launch button on the rocket launcher.

”Boom!”

A rocket shot out, hitting the military vehicle Xu Jiayi was escaping in directly.

The entire military vehicle was flipped over, the fierce flames instantly engulfed it.

”No!” Lin Chen’s face changed drastically, although he had the popularity system, it was impossible to save Xu Jiayi under such circumstances.

Lin Chen watched helplessly as the military vehicle was reduced to a pile of scorched metal.

”Bastard!” Lin Chen, seething with anger, got out of his car and grabbed Emon by the collar.

”You bastard, why did you do this, don’t you know Xu Jiayi was innocent?” Lin Chen asked coldly.

”Innocent? If she was innocent, why hadn’t there been a single clue for so many days? Lin Chen, stop deceiving yourself, Xu Jiayi is the murderer, I said I would personally kill whoever killed Sha Kun, no matter who it is,” said Emon, his voice icy.

”You bastard, was all this arranged by you?” Lin Chen swung his fist at Emon.

However, Emon caught Lin Chen’s punch firmly, ”This has nothing to do with you anymore, go back to China.”

”I will not go back, I will find out who the assassin is that killed Sha Kun and framed Xu Jiayi, and you will regret this,” Lin Chen said coldly.

”Regret? I, Emon, never regret anything I do,” Emon snorted coldly and walked away.

Watching the blazing car, Lin Chen felt extremely upset and even a sense of helplessness.

Why, didn’t he act earlier? Why did he let the army take Xu Jiayi away that day?

Back at the villa, Wei Ling greeted him anxiously.

”Lin Chen, is there any news about Jiayi? You have to save her. That day at seven o’clock I even covered her with a blanket when she fell asleep, she must have been framed,” she said.

Lin Chen looked at the anxious Wei Ling and sighed, ”I’m sorry, Sister Ling!”

Wei Ling was stunned, ”Lin Chen, what do you mean?”

Lin Chen’s eyes reddened, ”Jiayi, she’s dead!”

At that moment, in the night, a large truck slowly drove away from the suburbs, and atop the truck a pretty figure looking out the window suddenly said, ”Is it okay to keep this from Lin Chen?”

”Don’t worry, with Lin Chen’s intelligence, he will soon understand,” Emon said, smiling.
