Harry Potter: Most Annoying System Ever

The faint, rhythmic scratching of Robin trying to extract the fake ruby eye from the rubber toy snake was the only sound in the dormitory. Orion leaned back against his pillows, his annoyance at the lower-tier rewards dissipating as the true value of the night’s work began to manifest.

”Alright,” Sparkle’s interface flashed a crisp, business-like silver. ”Moving on to the tactical acquisitions. The ’I Actually Did Work’ category.”

A new notification box materialized in Orion’s vision.

[ ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! ]

Tier: 2 (Advanced)

Name: The Midnight Scavenger

Description: You stood in the lair of an apex predator surrounded by Ministry professionals and still managed to quietly harvest the most lethal, highly regulated, and valuable biological substance in the wizarding world without a single person noticing. You have the sticky fingers of a Niffler and the discretion of a ghost.

Reward: 1x Goblin-Forged Dagger.

Orion’s eyes snapped to his Inventory grid. In the fifth slot sat a slender, lethal-looking icon. He summoned it instantly.

The dagger materialized in his palm. It was exquisite. The blade was dark, almost matte black, about eight inches long, and inscribed with faint, jagged runes that seemed to absorb the dim light of the dormitory. The hilt was wrapped in dark leather, perfectly balanced.

”It’s not the Sword of Gryffindor,” Sparkle admitted, sounding slightly apologetic. ”But it operates on the exact same metallurgical principles. It’s Goblin-wrought silver mixed with a proprietary alloy. It’s virtually unbreakable, it never requires sharpening, and it only takes in that which makes it stronger.”

”It absorbs,” Orion whispered, running a thumb carefully over the flat of the blade. ”Like a sponge for toxins.”

”Exactly,” Sparkle confirmed. ”If you dip that blade into the Basilisk venom you harvested... you will possess a weapon capable of destroying Horcruxes, bypassing standard magical shields, and inflicting necrotic damage that cannot be healed by conventional means.”

”A specialized execution tool,” Orion murmured, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face as he vanished the dagger back into his Inventory. ”Highly efficient. Infinitely concealable. Better than a sword.”

”Next up,” Sparkle’s interface pulsed.

Tier: 2 (Advanced)

Name: The Civilian Consultant

Description: You successfully embedded yourself within a high-level, lethal Ministry of Magic tactical operation. You provided the critical intelligence, guided the deployment, and directly contributed to the neutralization of a Class XXXXX threat, all before hitting puberty. Amelia Bones is officially impressed.

Reward: 1x Phial of the Untraceable (Consumable).

Orion frowned. ”The Untraceable? What does that do? Provide localized invisibility?”

”Better,” Sparkle’s waveform spiked with triumphant static. ”It completely, permanently removes the Trace from your magical signature.”

Orion went completely still.

The Trace. The Ministry of Magic’s ultimate tool of surveillance over underage wizards. Applied the moment a child enters the Hogwarts wards, it acted as a draconian leash, alerting the Improper Use of Magic Office whenever a spell was cast in the vicinity of a minor outside of highly magical areas like Diagon Alley or a warded pureblood estate. It was the reason Muggle-born couldn’t practice in the Muggle world, or perform emergency magic during transit without risking expulsion.

”It removes it?” Orion asked, his voice hushed. ”Entirely?”

”It dissolves the tracking charm embedded in your magical core,” Sparkle explained proudly. ”And more importantly, it actively rejects the reapplication of the Trace whenever you return to Hogwarts for the next five years. To the Ministry’s sensors, you simply won’t register as an underage magic user.”

Orion pulled the small, clear vial of odorless liquid from his Inventory. It looked like water, but it felt heavy with profound, liberating potential.

”However,” Sparkle warned, her interface turning a serious shade of amber. ”It would be an incredibly good idea to make sure no one realizes your Trace is gone. If the Ministry or Dumbledore discovers you can cast unsupervised magic without setting off alarms, the resulting investigation would be catastrophic to your cover.”

”Understood,” Orion nodded, popping the cork and downing the liquid in a single gulp. It tasted like static electricity. A brief, localized shiver ran down his spine, and then... nothing. He felt exactly the same, but the psychological weight of constant Ministry surveillance evaporated.

”Freedom,” Orion breathed, vanishing the empty vial. ”That is an exceptional reward.”

”I save the best for last,” Sparkle hummed, her interface shifting from silver to a deep, pulsating, blinding gold. ”The piece de resistance. The narrative-breaker.”

Tier: 3 (Ultimate)

Name: The Crossroads of Fate

Description: You didn’t just defeat the Protagonist; you dismantled him in a duel that fundamentally altered the trajectory of the story. By crushing the Golden Boy, securing the objective, and manipulating the outcome, you have forced the universe to acknowledge a new center of gravity. You are no longer an NPC, Orion. You are the main event.

Reward: The Protagonist’s Halo (Passive Ability).

Orion stared at the golden text.

He read it twice. He read it a third time, his brow furrowing deeper with every pass. The initial thrill of a Tier 3 reward was rapidly cooling, replaced by a creeping, icy dread.

”The Protagonist’s Halo,” Orion whispered slowly. ”Explain.”

Sparkle’s waveform bounced with an enthusiasm that bordered on manic.

”It’s exactly what it sounds like!” she cheered. ”The world will now start pivoting the story toward your life, Orion! Similar to how Harry Potter constantly stumbles into the most obscure, dangerous, and plot-relevant situations purely by accident... that gravitational pull now applies to you!”

”I don’t want that,” Orion said flatly, his voice devoid of any excitement.

”But it’s amazing!” Sparkle argued, ignoring his tone. ”This Halo essentially boosts your survivability in any situation to maximum levels! Your luck in combat, your ability to find hidden paths, your sheer, undeniable plot armor... it’s all been elevated to a Protagonist’s level! You are statistically guaranteed to survive almost any lethal encounter!”

Orion sat rigidly against the headboard, his hands clenched into fists on the duvet.

”It alters the narrative gravity,” Orion deduced, his analytical mind tearing the ’reward’ apart. ”It means I can no longer hide in the background. It means trouble will find me, instead of me finding it.”

”Well, yes,” Sparkle conceded, her interface dimming slightly. ”There is a flip side. While this Halo benefits your personal survival... it also means that the classic Protagonist curse of endangering those around you will also apply here. Collateral damage is a staple of the hero’s journey.”

Her voice dropped to a serious, almost sympathetic hum.

”So, you had best start preparing yourself to keep your family safe, Orion. Potter, as a protagonist, has faced intense misery, isolation, and the constant targeting of his friends because of this very Halo. You should expect this as well. The Dark Lord won’t just ignore you anymore. The universe won’t ignore you.”

The silence in the enclosed bed was suffocating.

Orion looked at the golden text, his face a mask of absolute, unadulterated fury. The meticulous, careful, shadow-dwelling strategy he had employed for two years was effectively ashes.

He didn’t want to be the hero. He didn’t want to be the center of attention. He wanted to be the architect, not the actor.

”Is that supposed to be a good reward?” Orion spat, his voice shaking with suppressed rage. ”That is just a drawn-out, agonizing suicide mission! I have absolutely no interest in being the protagonist!”

”But... but this gives you more opportunities!” Sparkle protested weakly, her interface shrinking defensively. ”More adventures! More loot!”

”No shit it does!” Orion hissed violently, throwing his hands up in sheer exasperation. ”And it also places me under the direct, unblinking scrutiny of every major power player in this world! It makes me a magnet for psychopaths, dark artifacts, and death!”

He glared at the blue screen, his chest heaving.

”I take back my words of you being an annoying system,” Orion spat bitterly, pointing an accusing finger at the interface. ”You are not just annoying. You are the most hostile and ridiculously annoying system in the entire multiverse.”
