Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

They used to discuss movie plots together and disagree over the protagonist’s choices. Like most couples, they would argue but make up just as quickly. As these memories flooded his mind, a sick, possessive desire bloomed in Walker Grant’s heart.

’How could we not go back to the way things were?’

’We were so in love back then.’

He held her hand, kissing it gently, meticulously. The obsession in his eyes grew more and more intense.

”...”

The next day, Chloe Reed got a call from Iris Yates.

”Chloe, I’ve run into a bit of a situation over here...” Iris’s voice was hesitant.

Chloe asked, puzzled, ”What’s wrong? What happened?”

”Sigh...” Iris sighed. ”I went out to get my dog his shots today, but I unexpectedly ran into Charles Reed...”

When he saw her, he latched onto her as if she were his last hope. He lunged forward, grabbed her hand, refused to let go, and demanded she call Chloe Reed.

Iris couldn’t get rid of him, so she had no choice but to call.

Chloe Reed’s eyes turned cold. ”Where are you?” she asked.

Iris said, ”The Kitty & Puppy Clinic.”

Chloe Reed drove over. As soon as she walked in, she saw Charles Reed clinging to Iris’s clothes, stubbornly refusing to let go. Everyone else in the pet clinic was just standing by and watching.

Iris sat in a chair, looking completely done with life.

”Iris.”

Chloe called out to her.

Iris immediately looked over at her and said apologetically, ”I’m so sorry, Chloe. I really didn’t have a choice. He’s just...”

”Chloe! Chloe, my daughter, Chloe!” The moment Charles Reed saw Chloe Reed, he let go of Iris and lunged at her.

The next moment, Daniel Hayes stepped forward, grabbed Charles Reed by the collar with one hand, and hauled him right out of the pet clinic.

”Chloe, make him let me go! I’m your father, Chloe...” Charles Reed yelled, dangling helplessly as he was carried away. Utterly humiliated, he looked to Chloe Reed, pleading for help.

But Chloe ignored him, walking over to Iris’s side. ”Are you okay?”

”No, no, I’m just... surprised...” Iris shook her head, her expression turning complicated. ”He’s changed so much. The man he used to be would never have done something like this.”

’Grabbing a girl in public, begging so shamelessly... it was just astonishing.’

Chloe’s lips curved into a small smile. ”If you’re okay, you should head home for now. I’ll handle it.”

Iris asked worriedly, ”Chloe, will this cause any problems for you?”

Chloe shook her head. ”It won’t. Don’t worry.”

Iris nodded. ”Okay, then. I’ll take my dog home. You should come over to my place later.”

”Mm.”

”...”

In a deserted alley, Charles Reed had been dumped in a corner. Daniel Hayes loomed over him, his expression menacing. ”Who do you think you’re calling your daughter? What’s all this shouting about? Our Miss has nothing to do with you.”

Charles Reed was a mess. He pushed himself up against the wall. ”I am her father! I raised her! She is my daughter!”

”Heh. Shameless old man,” Daniel Hayes cursed bluntly.

”You!”

Charles Reed was furious, but Daniel Hayes was an imposing figure, and he didn’t dare make a move.

At that moment, Chloe Reed walked over. She looked at him, her eyes impassive. ”You were so desperate to see me. What is it you want to say?”
