The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 210: Chapter 209: Delivering Soap Beans

Wang Xiuhua took the money, and after a moment of internal debate, she decided to speak up.

”Jiaojiao, there’s something I think I should tell you. If you think it’s useful, then listen. If not, just pretend I never said anything.”

Seeing Wang Xiuhua’s solemn expression, Gu Jiaojiao paid closer attention.

”Xiuhua, why would you say that?”

”I know you mean well. You’re surely saying this for my own good.”

Wang Xiuhua saw that Gu Jiaojiao didn’t mind and lowered her voice.

”Jiaojiao, now that Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang have been adopted by the Lin Family, it’s not really appropriate for you to keep sending them things!”

It was one thing for Gu Jiaojiao to give them things when they were orphans without a family.

But now that they had a home, it was a bit inappropriate for Gu Jiaojiao to always be giving them things.

Gu Jiaojiao’s face was a mask of astonishment.

”Xiuhua, are you saying Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang have been adopted?”

Wang Xiuhua froze for a second. She had thought Gu Jiaojiao knew, but judging by her expression, she was completely in the dark.

So she couldn’t help but explain.

”Yes!”

”It happened many days ago.”

”The Lin Family, their next-door neighbors, adopted them. Lin Jiandong had always been helping the two children, and this time he took them directly to the village chief to have the adoption papers processed.”

That Lin Jiandong was the village’s resident good man; he’d never even gotten into an argument with anyone.

He had always had an excellent reputation in the village.

Besides, the Lin Family and Sweet Girl’s family were neighbors. When Sweet Girl’s father was alive, he and Lin Jiandong had been on good terms.

After Sweet Girl’s father passed away, Lin Jiandong often brought them food.

So while his adoption of Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang was surprising, it also felt like something a righteous man like Lin Jiandong would do.

Gu Jiaojiao had asked Wang Xiuhua to make the clothes because she was afraid Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang didn’t have any to wear. She never imagined they had already been adopted. In that case, there was no need to send the clothes over.

”Xiuhua, since Sweet Girl has been adopted, I won’t send these clothes over for now.”

She didn’t stay any longer. She took the clothes and went home.

As she neared her gate, she saw from a distance that something had been placed by the door. A closer look revealed a bag of soapbeans.

She glanced around but saw no one. After staring at the spot for a moment, she picked up the soapbeans and brought them into her yard.

’Not many people knew she needed soapbeans—only Chen JianShe and his sister, and Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang.’

’Chen JianShe and Leng Yuan had gone up into the mountains.’

’Second Girl, however, was doted on at home. Mr. and Mrs. Chen would never let her go up into the mountains in such cold weather.’

’That left only Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang.’

’Going up the mountain in this cold weather... Could they have run out of food at home?’

’But I remember from my last visit... forget grain, they had stockpiled plenty of mushrooms, chestnuts, and wild vegetables from the mountains. It should have been more than enough to get them through the winter.’

’I wonder how they’re doing since the adoption!’

Gu Jiaojiao, her thoughts on Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang, entered her yard and closed the gate.

「Around the corner.」

Dressed in thin clothes, Sweet Girl peeked her head out. Seeing Gu Jiaojiao take the items inside, she smiled and spoke to Xiao Yang behind her.

”She took the soapbeans back home. Let’s go back, too!”

In the dead of winter, Lin Jiandong had sent the two children into the mountains to find food. After searching for a long time, they hadn’t found anything to eat. They did, however, spot a soapbean tree and picked some.

When Xiao Yang heard that Gu Jiaojiao had accepted the items, a rare smile appeared on his silent face.

The two of them returned to the Lin Family’s home together.

The two of them had moved into the Lin house now, where they lived in the woodshed.

As for their own spacious house, Lin Jiandong’s son and daughter were now living in it.

The two had just stepped into the courtyard when Jin Meifeng came out and gave them a look.

”Did you find anything to eat today?”
