Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 35: 35 Boarding the Pirate Ship

Lu Changchun saw that everyone had passed, so he took the test papers to the director’s office.

Wei Kaiyun led Jiang Xinyu back to his office.

”Jiang Xinyu, can’t you start working now?”

”I haven’t passed the exam yet?”

”Haha, do you lack confidence in yourself or in me?

Don’t worry, the union understands, even if your answers are average, there’s no problem.”

”Director Wei, I’m not well, I’d like to rest and recuperate for these two months. So I’ll come over with Kong Mengjie.”

”Even as a secretary, you can take care of your health. This job isn’t tiring.”

”It’s not physically tiring, but it requires mental effort. I’d better properly recuperate for two months. Besides, in this cold winter, I don’t feel like moving.”

”That’s probably the main reason, isn’t it?”

”Sort of.” Jiang Xinyu didn’t want to come early; she wanted to use these two months to organize memories and think about her future path. The need to recuperate was also true.

”By the way, Director Wei, I don’t want to stay in the dormitory. Is there any rental housing available in the county?”

”The dormitory is safe.” Wei Kaiyun was somewhat against Jiang Xinyu’s decision.

”I like peace and quiet. Director Wei, please help me find a place. If there’s nothing for rent, something for sale will do, but I don’t have much money left. I only have about four hundred dollars.”

Wei Kaiyun looked at Jiang Xinyu playfully, knowing that she was lying about spending all her money.

”Okay, I’ll ask someone later. Actually, you know it’s safer for girls to stay in the dormitory.”

Jiang Xinyu just smiled; with such a big secret, how could she live where there are many people? Improving her life would be impossible.

A quarter of an hour later, Lu Changchun came in with the test papers, ”Director Wei, our union unanimously agreed, Jiang Xinyu is officially your secretary.”

Then he handed the test papers to Wei Kaiyun and turned around to congratulate Jiang Xinyu with a smile. ”Ms. Jiang, congratulations. We’ll be colleagues now, feel free to contact me if you need anything. I’ve been at the textile factory for decades.”

”Thank you, Chairman Lu, for your support. I won’t hesitate to bother you.”

”It’s my duty; we’ll be colleagues from now on.”

Wei Kaiyun looked at Jiang Xinyu’s test papers, feeling very puzzled. How could this girl, who had just finished middle school, have such insights? She was too experienced. He became more and more curious about Jiang Xinyu.

Lu Changchun exchanged a few more pleasantries before leaving.

Wei Kaiyun put Jiang Xinyu’s test papers into a drawer, stood up, ”Let’s go, I’ll take you to complete the onboarding procedures. Do you have your identification with you?”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”I have it.”

They walked one after the other into the office of the personnel department.

”Director Zhao, this is my secretary Jiang Xinyu. Please help with the onboarding procedures.”

Having the director assist with the onboarding process speeds things up significantly.

In ten minutes, Jiang Xinyu became a formally registered employee of the textile factory. She held her work permit.

”Since you’re coming after the New Year, let’s get all the paperwork done now.”

”Yes, my file is already with the personnel department. I still need to visit the accounting, labor insurance, cafeteria, and logistics departments. Those four, right?”

”Yes, don’t rush to refuse the dormitory issue. I’ll ask around later, if there’s no place available, stay in the dormitory first.

Our dormitory is in high demand; our textile factory has over a thousand employees, and dormitory space is really scarce.”

”Okay, Director Wei, I’ll take care of the rest myself.”

”Let me take you around. It’s faster this way.”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t refuse again; she understood Wei Kaiyun’s care would be extremely beneficial for her future survival and work here.

Half an hour later, all the procedures were completed and she received a factory entry permit, a certificate for work clothes, and a cafeteria dining voucher. She only needed to submit these to the finance department, pay money for meal tickets.

Once she officially starts work, she can pick up various tickets from the finance department. Thinking about having industrial tickets in the future felt exciting.

”Jiang Xinyu, you’re now a formal employee of the textile factory. You could transfer your household registration here.”

”That’s great, but if I transfer my household, wouldn’t the village refuse to let go?”

”Someone won’t let go?”

”I haven’t asked yet; it’s just a question. Director Wei, I’m just wondering if transferring my household means the house in the village would no longer be mine?”

”How could it be? That’s your property.”

”Then I’ll transfer my household registration, it’ll save me from having to present an introduction letter every time I go out.”

”Alright, the village provides you with a certificate, then you bring it to the factory, I’ll find someone to handle it.”

”Thank you, Director Wei, I’ll treat you to a meal. I wonder where my uncle and the others went?”

”They went to a friend’s place. They’ll come to find you later. I’ll treat you to a meal, you don’t need to treat.”

”How can I accept that? You’re my benefactor, I have to show my gratitude.”

”No need, treat me next time. Let’s go, we’ll eat in the cafeteria.”

”Director Wei, can temporary workers transfer their household registration?”

”Yes, but only after becoming a regular employee.”

”Director Wei, let’s wait for my uncle and the others, I’ll check at the gate whether they’ve returned or not.”

”Alright, come to the office to find me later.”

Jiang Xinyu left through the textile factory gate and saw Wang Ailing not far away.

”Xinyu, over here.”

Jiang Xinyu walked briskly over, ”Sister, why are you alone?”

”My dad went to his friend’s house, I didn’t want to go, so I’m here waiting for you. Xinyu, did you finish with your work procedures?”

”Yes, it’s all done, we’re just waiting to start working together.”

”Xinyu, I can’t wait until we come together, the logistics department told me I have to start working this month.”

”Didn’t you say you wanted to come after the New Year?”

”I didn’t dare to say.”

”Alright, go ahead then. Let’s just wait for my uncle, Director Wei is treating us to a meal.”

”Xinyu, is it appropriate for us to go?”

”Why not? I definitely don’t want to go back hungry.”

”My dad should be back soon; he said his friend’s house isn’t far from here, but it’s been nearly two hours.”

”Sister, my household registration can be transferred to the textile factory, but you have to wait until you become a regular employee.”

”You can transfer the household?”

”Yes, I’m just worried someone in the village might want to take over our family house.”

”They wouldn’t, would they? It’s your family’s house, how could anyone take it?”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t answer, knowing that people’s greed can’t be underestimated, especially when there’s an interest involved. She feared that the Jiang family wouldn’t settle down.

Well, she’ll have to take things step by step; if they stir up trouble, she’ll deal with them.

”Xinyu, I’m so happy, I finally have a job, no more farm work for me.”
