Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 34: 34 Boarding the Pirate Ship

The two chatted and laughed in the back, clearly their relationship was especially good.

The three spent most of the day on the mountain, finally arriving home at four in the afternoon.

Looking at the fruits of her labor, Jiang Xinyu felt very proud.

In her past life, although she wasn’t favored by her grandparents, they never mistreated her, which is why she gave them money.

They seldom asked her to work the fields. Only during the wheat and autumn harvests did she help out.

For dinner, they had dumplings filled with pork and green onions; they were so juicy. She thanked her past self for the mindset of a small-town citizen.

Satisfied with her meal, she also drank a bag of milk, making sure to keep up with nutrition. Her current height is over one and a half meters; she aims to grow to one sixty-five.

Feeling too lazy to move after eating, she lay in the warm quilt. Comfortably taking a deep breath. Good food isn’t better than dumplings, and comfort isn’t better than lying down—truth indeed.

The next day, the three went to collect firewood again. Wang Ailing was very energetic all day. Understandably, this is a great thing for her.

”Xinyu, my father will be joining tomorrow too. He needs to tell his friend that we won’t be meeting for matchmaking, and also, he wants to know how to repay Director Wei’s favor.”

”That’s necessary. It’s not a small favor so you should definitely ask.”

In the evening Jiang Xinyu carefully washed herself from head to toe. Being clean is a kind of attitude.

Standing in front of the mirror, looking at herself, people say beauty shines under light, and it’s true; she feels she could be considered among the pretty girls. (Forgive her aesthetic sense, she’s really just an ordinary girl.)

She drank a bag of milk before beautifully lying down to sleep.

The alarm was set for six. The next day, when the alarm rang, she got up. Quickly she started a fire, breakfast was two eggs, a bowl of milk powder, and a sugar bun.

After finishing, she rinsed her mouth. At seven, the Wang family father and daughter knocked on the door, and the three left the house on time.

Along the way, the two girls followed behind Wang Jianqiang, chatting and laughing.

Primarily, Jiang Xinyu saw Wang Ailing was too nervous.

At nine, the three arrived at the county. Wang Jianqiang took them directly to the textile factory.

”Comrade, we’re here to see Director Wei.” Wang Jianqiang explained to the guard.

”Wait a moment, I’ll ask.”

Jiang Xinyu stood at the entrance of the textile factory; the scale of the factory was quite large, implying Wei Kaiyun is a capable person.

”You can go in, Director Wei is waiting for you in the office.”

Wang Jianqiang thanked the guard and led the two people in the direction told by the guard, straight to Wei Kaiyun’s office.

”Please come in.”

”Director Wei, we are from S Village.”

”I know, please have a seat. Jiang Xinyu, nice, not delayed.”

”How could I? Director Wei offered me such a great opportunity, how could I fail to appreciate it?”

”Oh, we’ll talk about our matters later, and this fellow townsman is?”

”Director Wei, I’m Wang Jianqiang, Wang Ailing’s father. We know you’ve given a temporary job opportunity, so we’ve come especially today.”

”Alright, I’ll have someone take you to complete the procedures.”

Wang Jianqiang knew they wanted to send the father and daughter away, stood up with a smile, but glanced at Jiang Xinyu.

”Uncle, Sister Ailing, you go handle the procedures, I have some other matters with Director Wei.”

Wei Kaiyun called a young fellow, ”Qian Jun, take this female comrade to handle the temporary worker procedures.”

”Yes, Director Wei.”

The father and daughter left with Qian Jun. The office now had only the two of them.

Wei Kaiyun leisurely sat behind the desk. ”Welcome, Jiang Xinyu.”

”Director Wei, saying this is too early, I haven’t passed the exam yet.”

”Hehe. I have confidence in you.”

”Thanks so much for Director Wei’s favor, I myself am not sure.”

”Let’s go, I’ll take you.”

”Where to?”

”Exam room? You wouldn’t think that I’d be the examiner, right?”

”I didn’t really think so. Director Wei, my abilities are limited, but since I’m here, I will certainly try my best.” Better to state things upfront.

Wei Kaiyun ignored her, standing up to walk ahead.

Jiang Xinyu followed him out of the office.

Wei Kaiyun led Jiang Xinyu into the union’s office.

”Chairman Lu, this is the secretary I chose, Jiang Xinyu, she’s here to take the exam.”

Wei Kaiyun’s words attracted everyone’s attention. They all thought his secretary would be chosen among the previous ones; no one expected an outsider to come.

Still such a child? How did Director Wei favor her?

”Director Wei, leave it to me.

This comrade, please follow me to take the exam.”

Wei Kaiyun turned, with a gentle smile on his face, ”Ms. Jiang, do well on the exam.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded and followed Chairman Lu into a room.

”Ms. Jiang, don’t be nervous, the secretary exam is just a process. Sit, I’ll get you paper and pen.”

Jiang Xinyu understood this kindness and gratefully nodded.

She answered two questions in forty minutes. Similar to short-answer questions from later generations, or like essays.

Lu Changchun observed the unhesitating girl, roughly understanding Wei Kaiyun’s reason for choosing her.

Afterward, she spent half an hour answering a math paper. Quite simple. Finished in ten minutes, but spent another twenty checking.

Lu Changchun held the two papers, ”Ms. Jiang, you can leave now, I’ll take them to Director Wei.”

They left the exam room only to find Wei Kaiyun sitting in the union office waiting.

”Chairman Lu, please evaluate the papers soon, I’ll await your news in the office.

Xiao Jiang, follow me to the office.”

Lu Changchun had already seen Jiang Xinyu’s papers, planning to give full marks; this girl has quite the ability.

”Hm, after twenty minutes of discussion we’ll report the results to you.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded and left first. Jiang Xinyu smiled and nodded at Lu Changchun, then followed him out.

”Come check out the papers just now.”

A few people came over, a middle-aged woman picked up the paper, ”Such beautiful handwriting. Excellently answered this question.”

After reading, she put it down, then picked up the math paper and went over it.

The other five also circulated these two papers.

”Chairman Lu, I believe this girl has no issues; I’ve been observing her, she’s neither arrogant nor timid, not nervous, I agree.”

”Since Mr. Chen agrees, what are your five opinions?”

The other five all nodded; Director Wei personally brought her, being so precise with timing to fetch her, it proves he’s optimistic about this secretary candidate—this is clearly a formality, no need to offend Director Wei over this.
