Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 30: 30 triggers the plot

Jiang Xinyu bought four pounds of brown sugar, spending two yuan. The mirror cost one yuan and eighty cents each, a wooden frame mirror thirty centimeters wide and fifty centimeters long with painted flowers and birds on it.

Now Jiang Xinyu had bought everything she needed. Wang Ailing didn’t buy anything. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to; she had money, just no coupons.

”Sis, what do you want to buy? I still have cotton coupons and industrial coupons here.”

”Xinyu, you have cotton coupons?”

”Yeah, five pounds’ worth.”

Wang Ailing didn’t speak anymore. She had heard from their parents that they had prepared the dowry for her brother’s marriage, yet they had no cotton, no fabric. This was a major event in her brother’s life, and they couldn’t even prepare a set of bedding.

”Sis, these are from my family. I can’t use them right now. If you need them, I can lend them to you first.”

”We’ll talk when we get back. Do you have anything else to buy? Anywhere else to go?”

”Shall we go eat?”

”No, you should save money for daily life. Don’t think just because you have money now, once it’s spent, where will you earn more?”

”So are we just going back like this?”

”Let’s go back. We’ve bought everything we wanted.”

”But it’s not easy to make this trip. Just going back like this, I’m not satisfied.”

The two of them were tugging at each other not far from the building entrance. Wang Ailing wanted to drag Jiang Xinyu away, but Jiang Xinyu didn’t want to leave.

This scene caught the attention of Wei Kaiyun, who was passing by on a bicycle.

”Jiang Xinyu, hurry home. If you keep this up, I won’t go out with you next time.”

Wei Kaiyun stopped when he heard the name Jiang Xinyu.

Jiang Xinyu, was she the worker that the county mayor had asked to come work at the textile factory?

”Sis, stop pulling me. I’ll go back, okay? What’s the point of tugging back and forth?”

Wei Kaiyun was amused by her words. The two just happened to head in the direction where he had stopped.

Both of them felt a bit embarrassed when they saw the man pushing his bike and smiling at them. They really became a laughing stock.

Jiang Xinyu squinted at the man. He looked really good. Tall, with a handsome face, he seemed to be in his twenties. I wonder which woman is lucky enough to find such a handsome man.

In her past life, a teammate once sighed, ”Good men are either still in diapers or already taken,” and now Jiang Xinyu felt the same way.

Wei Kaiyun knew the interesting little girl was looking at him. What did that look of regret on her face mean?

The two walked past Wei Kaiyun and headed straight to the bus station.

”Xinyu, if you like city life so much, why did you sell your job to Kong Mengjie?”

Wei Kaiyun heard the name ”Kong Mengjie,” and this time it was his turn to squint.

Since leaving home at the age of ten, he often had a dream. In the dream, there was Kong Mengjie, who took his place and led to his imprisonment.

Wei Kaiyun pushed his bicycle and followed them at a moderate distance.

”Sis, I told you, I’m not going to work at the textile factory. Kong Mengjie is ambitious, so let her have it.

Besides, it’s not that I like city life. It’s just because I don’t often come here, I figured I’d explore a bit while I’m here.”

”You know, I don’t dare tell you this, but people in the village call you a fool.”

”Haha, I know, and there are many names for me: fool, spendthrift, lunatic, right?”

”How did you know?”

”I ran into Zhou Lihong when I went to pick up firewood last time, and she scolded me.”

”Well, you look so carefree, like a real fool. Others can’t even get this opportunity, and you don’t care.”

Wei Kaiyun listened intently from behind, but this girl was quite interesting, not wanting a permanent job?

”Xinyu, you also graduated from junior high. Are you willing to stay in the countryside your whole life?”

”Sis, what’s wrong with the countryside? I haven’t thought about this issue yet. Being a worker is nice now, but that’s not something we can just become. If I had the ability, I’d want to work in a coal mine. Female workers don’t go down into the mines, and that’s great. But the county mayor just offered a job at the textile factory.”

”You think too beautifully.”

”I’m not beautiful, so at least let me think beautifully?”

The two laughed and talked until they arrived at the station.

”Sis, it’s almost twelve o’clock. We have to wait another hour for a bus. Why don’t we go for another walk?”

”No, let’s just wait here. I’ll tip the basket over and sit while we wait.”

”Fine, you’re the boss. You decide.”

Jiang Xinyu inadvertently noticed Wei Kaiyun pushing his bike behind them. She frowned. Why would a man so good-looking have a hobby of following women? No matter how handsome he is, his character is flawed.

Seeing the disdain on the little girl’s face, Wei Kaiyun laughed.

”Hello, I’m Wei Kaiyun. I’m the director of the county textile factory.”

Jiang Xinyu paused, glanced around, but it was just the two of them. Was he talking to them?

Wei Kaiyun looked at Jiang Xinyu’s expression and smiled even more.

”Ahem, I just heard you sold your job spot at the textile factory?”

Wang Ailing’s face instantly turned pale. It was her fault for babbling and now had caused trouble.

”Comrade, how can you eavesdrop and still be so justified? Truly an eye-opener.”

”Haha, I didn’t eavesdrop; I listened openly. You haven’t answered my question yet.”

”If you ask, do I have to answer?” Wei Kaiyun? Wei Kaiyun? Isn’t he the most unlucky supporting male character in the book? The youngest director?

Jiang Xinyu once again wore a look of sympathy and regret, which puzzled Wei Kaiyun.

”I’m the textile factory director. If I hear about job trafficking in our factory, of course, I have to ask. Aren’t you afraid I’ll cancel this spot, and then you’ll have to refund the money?”

”Director Wei, you’re so busy every day. Just forget about this little thing, okay?”

”But I have an excellent memory; I can’t forget.”

”Then what would it take for you to forget?”

”That depends on your sincerity.”

”Sincerity? What do you want to do?” Jiang Xinyu asked, pretending to be frightened.

”Little girl, let’s go aside and talk. I’m very curious about some things. If I’m satisfied with your answers, I’ll forget about it.”

Wang Ailing listened to the conversation between the two and immediately stood in front of Jiang Xinyu, ”Director Wei, I was the one who asked Xinyu to sell the job. If you have questions, ask me.”

Jiang Xinyu patted Wang Ailing, who was standing in front of her. ”Sis, it’s okay. It’s my honor that such a big director wants to ask me questions. Don’t worry, I’ll go have a chat with Director Wei.”

”Xinyu.”

”It’s fine.

Where does Director Wei want to talk?”

”Let’s go to that alley over there. Your sister can see us, so she won’t worry.”
