Chapter 1317: Chapter 1317: Is Lu’s Workshop Really Like This?

Early the next morning, Shu Yu appeared at the entrance of the inn where Ren Huai and his companion were staying.

Ren Huai arrived rather quickly, politely greeted Shu Yu, and then boarded his carriage, following behind as they left the city.

The carriage stopped at the entrance of Lu’s Workshop. Shu Yu said to Ren Huai, “This is our Lu’s Workshop. It hasn’t been long since it was built, and many things inside are not complete. The place is rather simple, I hope Young Master Ren won’t mind.”

Ren Huai replied with a smile, “Monarch Lu Xiang is truly too kind.”

As they spoke, the two stood at the main entrance.

The gatekeeper was still Old Yang. He greeted Shu Yu first, then looked up and saw Ren Huai and Steward Xu, surprised, he said, “Oh? Sir, is it you?”

Shu Yu, with a surprised expression, pretended not to know and asked, “Old Yang, have you met Young Master Ren?”

“Yes, it seems like it was six days ago when the sir passed by here and asked me for directions.”

Shu Yu was taken aback and turned to look at Ren Huai, “Has Young Master Ren been here for six days?”

Ren Huai could only smile and give a vague explanation, “I didn’t expect this to be Monarch Lu Xiang’s workshop, what a coincidence. I’ve indeed been here for several days, but had some personal matters to attend to earlier, hence the delay.”

Shu Yu understood, “So that’s how it is.” She didn’t press further, only smiling and inviting the two inside.

Old Yang watched their backs, stroked his chin, and made a soft ‘tsk’ sound.

Not long after Shu Yu entered the gate, Daniu came over to greet them.

Shu Yu introduced the parties, Ren Huai nodded slightly, and Daniu grinned shyly, then turned to lead the way ahead.

“Ahead is our melon seeds workshop, this way, Young Master Ren.”

Ren Huai glanced around, noticing that there were indeed few people in the workshop, apart from Shu Yu and a few others, there was almost no one walking around outside.

At the entrance of the workshop, just as Ren Huai was about to step inside, Daniu extended his hand to stop him, “Sir, please wait a moment.”

He took a cloth cover from a nearby cabinet and handed it to the two, “These are shoe covers. Because our workshop deals with food, cleanliness is most important. To avoid bringing outside dust and dirt in, we always wear these when entering or exiting.”

Ren Huai looked in surprise at the shoe covers in his hand, then turned his head towards Shu Yu.

Shu Yu was already squatting down, putting on the shoe covers.

She stood up and smiled, “Young Master Ren doesn’t think we’re being too particular, does he?”

Ren Huai snapped back to reality, shook his head and said, “Not at all. Just didn’t expect Monarch Lu Xiang to be so thoughtful.”

Actually, this was the first time he saw such a practice.

The Liao Family runs a food shop, and compared to melon seeds that need to be shelled, those making preserved fruits would require such an environment even more.

But even though the Liao Family has workshops, no one ever thought it necessary to do this.

Truth be told, from the moment he stepped inside, Ren Huai felt quite assured about the Lu family’s melon seeds.

He glanced at Steward Xu, who originally wanted to find an excuse to be picky but swallowed his words forcefully.

The two silently put on the shoe covers, bypassed the screen in front of them, and walked inside.

Just after turning the corner, Ren Huai was stunned again.

All the staff present wore the same clothing, with aprons on the outside, hair gathered on top of their heads wrapped in cloth, and moreover… were they also wearing something on their faces?

Luo Chun was overseeing getting the freshly roasted batch of melon seeds packed up when the Chief Steward came over and said someone was visiting. The freshly roasted melon seeds should be set aside, and the next batch could wait until after the visitors had left to continue.
