Fully Leveled Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 934: Chapter 934: The Unfortunate Madam Liang

But even though there are less of them, there are always some carpentry tasks.

Sometimes when other carpenters can’t find help, they ask him to lend a hand, so Liang Wangsheng’s life is still decent.

He treats Lu Erbai quite well, knowing that the Lu family is struggling, and he occasionally comes over to help out.

Although the two families do not visit each other as frequently as when they were younger, they have maintained their interactions.

“Why didn’t my father seek him out this time?” Shu Yu thought that if there was such a well-matched partner, working together with her father would definitely be more efficient.

Lu Dasong said, “This brother Wangsheng, he only has one daughter at home.”

“No able-bodied labor,” Shu Yu realized at once, but then frowned, “So why did he come to find me, want to go to the county town to work?”

Lu Dasong sighed, “Because his family has no land left.”

Shu Yu was taken aback and her steps also halted, “Why?”

“The Liang family has only one daughter, so they intended to find a son-in-law to move in and care for them in their old age. But how many of these men who join the family by marriage are capable? They are either from a family with so many brothers that even finding enough food is difficult, or they themselves lack ambition and have bad character. The latter is obviously not acceptable to the Liang family, so they found someone from a household with about a dozen brothers.”

This man was indeed brought into the Liang family. Having lived in deprivation at his own home, he became lax once he lived a better life at the Liang’s.

It was only a few years of good days before he was enticed into gambling.

“Gambling?” Shu Yu frowned.

Lu Dasong nodded, “He racked up a huge gambling debt outside, and the gambling den naturally came to collect it. It was then that the Liang family found out that he had been claiming to go to the county town for odd jobs, but in fact, he was gambling in the den to the point of near blindness, and almost got his hands chopped off.”

That son-in-law’s own parents had no money; otherwise, they wouldn’t have let their son marry into another family.

So the gambling den’s collectors went to the Liang’s. At that time, the Liang’s daughter had just given birth and was very frail. When the gambling den’s thugs came and threatened to take away her son and sell him if they didn’t get the money, both mother and daughter were terrified.

This scared both the mother and the child – one was still in the custom of postnatal confinement, and the other in the cradle; how could they endure such a shock?

Liang Wangsheng had no other choice. The lives of his daughter and grandson were the most important, so he had to scrape together whatever money he could from home. But it wasn’t enough, and in the end, they had to sell their land, too.

Now their family only has one acre of land, and life has suddenly become difficult.

Liang Wangsheng can only look for work everywhere, but many people are aware of this affair and are afraid that the gambling den’s collectors won’t let things go, potentially causing trouble for themselves, so they dare not hire him.

After all, there is no shortage of strong and young laborers; they won’t miss one.

Shu Yu frowned, “What about that son-in-law of his?”

Lu Dasong snorted, “He ran away, ran off with a woman who took all the family money, to who knows where.”

“A gambler like him still has a woman willing to run away with him?” Shu Yu was surprised.

“Although he is a gambler, he does have an unusually handsome appearance. Some people are superficial, only see his good looks, and are so coaxed by sweet words that they forget everything else.”

It’s really just that the Liang family was unlucky. This son-in-law, when living at his own home, couldn’t get enough to eat or wear, and he looked gaunt and ragged, hardly showing any good looks.

But after a few years at the Liang’s, where he ate and lived well, he was transformed, turning into a rare handsome man for miles around.

Lu Dasong said, “This happened a few months ago. Your family had just returned, and your father wasn’t aware. He was probably thinking that he should be busy taking care of the few acres of land at home during the farming season, so he didn’t seek him out.”
