Fully Leveled Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 931: Chapter 931: Thirteen Strong Laborers

Shu Yu did not need a cook, and Madam Li was very disappointed, but now she was eagerly trying to please Shu Yu, not daring to pester further.

Just then, a knock came from the door, the village chief’s son had brought over all the people on the list.

The courtyard door opened, and a good number of people poured in through the entrance.

Shu Yu glanced over and said, “I didn’t expect to hire so many people.”

The village chief’s younger son is called Fan Dabao, hmm, the same name as Lu Dabao.

He hurriedly stepped forward to explain, “These first dozen people are the ones Monarch Lu Xiang intended to hire; the rest are their family members who, upon hearing about this, all followed along.”

Of course, some were villagers who had come to watch the excitement.

Shu Yu, “…”

Alright, let them watch if they want to.

She looked up to examine the people Lu Erbai mentioned who were more industrious, some fat and some thin, but all had dark complexions, clearly accustomed to hard work.

Shu Yu then said, “I presume you uncles have all heard from Uncle Fan that our household wants to hire workers, but due to the busy farming season, we shouldn’t take up too much labor, lest there be no one to work the fields, so we’ve asked for help from uncles with stronger labor forces at home. Of course, even though it’s help, there will be wages.”

As soon as they heard there would be wages, joy spread across the faces of everyone present.

Especially the relatives of those dozen or so strong laborers who had been anxious, they finally relaxed.

Although it was said to be hiring labor, in this rural neighborhood, when someone builds a house, everyone pitches in, and a meal is usually enough compensation.

Everyone helps each other out, whoever is free works for a bit, and if not, it’s fine. And even more so, working on the construction for the Village Chief is seen as an honor, who would ask for wages?

But now during the busy farming season, even if a household has plenty of strong labor, sending one or two to help out, which could take up to a month, would naturally cause some discomfort.

Now with Shu Yu’s assurance, everyone couldn’t help but feel happy.

Then, Shu Yu continued, “Currently, I’d like to ask, if any of you really can’t spare the time, then I won’t take you away. If all of you are available, then I’ll talk about the situation with the house in a bit, and we’ll start work tomorrow, how about that?”

“We’re all available; we can go tomorrow.”

“Right, Brother Erbai thought of us first, and we must certainly go help him. Whether we get paid or not, we’ll definitely do a fine job.”

The others echoed in agreement.

Shu Yu nodded, “Okay, then it’s settled.”

Since they had decided, the other onlookers left, even though they wanted to listen more, but Shu Yu had serious matters to discuss, how could Fan Zhong allow them to stay?

Not until the courtyard was left with only those who were to work did Shu Yu count again; including the village chief’s younger son Fan Dabao, there were a total of thirteen people, which was quite a crowd.

The courtyard door was shut again, and Shu Yu said, “As I mentioned before, there will be wages, according to Jiangyuan County’s rate, about 30 coins a day. Moreover, since the county town is too far from Shangshi Village and daily travel would waste too much time, we will provide food and accommodation.”

Upon hearing that food and accommodation were included, everyone’s eyes immediately lit up.

You see, although the rate in Jiangyuan County was about 30 coins a day, it only included one meal at noon, and everything else was taken care of by oneself.

If calculated as Shu Yu had said, it would be well over forty coins a day.

Someone felt uneasy, “Monarch Lu Xiang, this doesn’t seem quite right. I know you want to take care of us uncles, but Erbai has work in mind for us, and we can’t let you suffer losses, right?”
