She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

”I don’t have any extra.” Li Yao’s face didn’t look good, and she quickly said this, ”I’m going to freshen up.”

She carried the washbasin quickly to the sink, afraid of being bothered by Bai Qiaoqian, apparently not wanting to be too close to Bai Qiaoqian.

”Alright then, sigh.” Bai Qiaoqian had no intention of chasing after her; dealing with people requires energy, after all. Although Li Yao wasn’t particularly smart, she was extremely selfish and wary of everyone, making it difficult to coax her into doing anything.

She didn’t want to cause trouble.

It’s easier to fool someone like Wei Yao; she wondered if she would encounter such a person again.

But with Wei Yao’s personality, if he were separated from Huo Jingchen, he might not last many more instances, which would be a pity.

She recalled that Wei Yao and Ah Chen were together, so she approached Ah Chen and asked, ”Which instance is Brother Yao in now?”

”He’s in the same instance as Huo Jingchen and Qin Lin, so there shouldn’t be any major issues.” Ah Chen replied, now that they could buy Resurrection Cards, even if they failed the instance, they could use the cards to get out.

”I see.” Bai Qiaoqian didn’t ask further.

”Tomorrow it’s Ma Qin’s turn to clean the dormitory. Remember to clean up first thing in the morning and take out the trash, or it’ll cause trouble,” said a girl in the dorm, who introduced herself, ”I’m Liao Jingyun, the current dorm leader.”

Ma Qin replied, ”Okay.”

The other relatively quiet girl was called Zhan Ying.

Ah Chen noticed that the adventurers in this school instance were relatively young, and the oldest seemed no older than twenty-five or twenty-six; their appearance now should be their age at death.

At twenty-three o’clock, the school dormitory lights went out.

Everyone was already lying in bed, but the adventurers couldn’t sleep.

”Are you really planning to sleep?” It was Li Yao’s voice, ”If we work together, maybe we can drive the monster away.”

”Since the monster eats people at night, I don’t think it’s a matter of working together.” Liao Jingyun said, ”This is an elimination instance, and working together doesn’t help much; not only that, but one might accidentally become a scapegoat.”

”What do you mean? Do you think I’m trying to find a scapegoat?” Li Yao’s voice rose in anger.

Liao Jingyun said, ”I was just expressing my analysis, not targeting you.”

”From what I think, the monster has marked an adventurer, and tonight it’ll definitely look for that adventurer. If the monster hasn’t marked anyone, it will randomly eat someone; if a person is chased by the monster, besides dealing with it themselves, pushing others towards it is also a solution. Joining forces isn’t practical; this is no longer the outside world, don’t be naive, and don’t think others are naive either.”

”If an adventurer deliberately designs to cause someone’s death, there are fines.” Zhan Ying, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up.

The dorm suddenly quieted down; apparently, except for Zhan Ying, the others really didn’t know this.

After about ten seconds of silence, the dorm became lively again.

”Are there fines?” Bai Qiaoqian’s voice rang out, and she followed up with, ”Can you tell us more? How much is the fine?”

Zhan Ying explained: ”The first time is ten thousand, the second time it doubles, and so on. But don’t worry, as long as one does not actively harm others, adventurers won’t face punishment for resisting. Anyway, you can’t actively attack other adventurers; fines are just the basic punishment, and specific penalties are determined by the rules.”

”Tricking someone into being a laborer shouldn’t count as harming them, right?” Bai Qiaoqian asked quietly, having already shared half with the other person.

Zhan Ying paused and said, ”It’s not a big issue; fines usually involve life and death. Disputes and other calculations between people are normal, with the rules judging specifics. For example, if two people are being chased by a tiger, they can run or attack the tiger, but if they injure the other and leave them for the tiger or push them towards it when they’re not paying attention to buy themselves time, it’s fined.”

”Unless attacked by an adventurer, it’s best not to use items on other adventurers here.” Zhan Ying added, ”Not only will it result in punishment by the rules, but the effect will also weaken.”

Ah Chen pondered this; she really didn’t know this rule, as commissioners eventually became muddleheaded monsters, unable to awaken, with little consciousness of their own.

She discovered that the monsters here had grades according to the commissioner’s memory; it should be a low-level monster. In this instance, based on the commissioner’s grade, it should have stayed outside the school gate, and in the Food Village, it would exist outside the village with no consciousness or storyline of its own.

Suddenly, Ah Chen sensed the surroundings quieting down.

Falling asleep?

She, being on the top bunk, scanned around; her roommates looked genuinely asleep, but how was that possible?

If a monster came for her tonight, then it was unlucky for the creature to have chosen her; it was doomed to starve for the night.

A shadow crawled in through the door gap, and Ah Chen saw it.

After coming in, it stood upright and wobbled over to Ah Chen. Despite the darkness, Ah Chen still saw it open its gaping maw, getting larger as if it could envelop a human head.

Originally, she planned to slap the monster away, but the reminder that monsters valued winning came to mind, and she withdrew her hand.

”How about we compete? A monster that can’t defeat me isn’t qualified to eat me.” Ah Chen said with a smile.

After she spoke, the monster’s mouth closed, then it nodded, revealing two eyes filled with a competitive spirit.

”Let’s play a game of stillness—whoever moves loses.”

The monster quickly nodded, its eyes conveying a sense of victory, puzzled why this human would choose a game that clearly favored it.

Ah Chen didn’t explain further; unlike doing other things, the game of stillness required her to seal her body, and if she wanted, she could remain motionless forever.

This monster was doomed to go hungry.

Then Ah Chen closed her eyes: ”Let’s start.”

She wasn’t afraid of the monster breaking the rules; it was bound by them, and unless she moved first, it wouldn’t act.

Watching this, 997 found it a bit speechless—the monster could have chosen anyone to eat but unwisely came after the host, inviting trouble upon itself.

[Host, why didn’t that person follow you?]997 was curious, naturally referring to Bai Chao.

Ah Chen replied: [He should be with Bai Xingwen now, but he left a mark on me.]

[I figured, couldn’t feel assured without marking first.]Satisfied with the answer, 997 then shared news with Ah Chen, [Host, I selected a few more missionaries this time, and I’ve been supervising them lately; they’re doing quite well.]

Ah Chen: [Congratulations.]

[What’s the situation in the dorm?]The place Ah Chen was now, either a heterotopia or a dream, and since she hadn’t been sleeping before, it was likely a heterotopia.
