Gun of Ashes

Thoughts were interrupted, and intense pain came from the mind.

It’s unclear whether this is the cost of ascension or the side effects of Authority·Shangdafeng. Anyway, Lorenzo feels terrible now. If possible, he truly wishes he could pass out again.

Making an effort to lift his head, he clearly saw the ward he was in. The door was a heavy iron door, and he was alone in the room. A small table beside him held Florun Potion.

Lorenzo felt a strange sensation in his head. He reached out to touch it and felt a cold sensation; it was the Holy Silver crown, probably to prevent any invasion during his unconscious state. The doctors had affixed this to him.

Retrieving several Florun Potions, Lorenzo injected them all at once, as the potion surged through his bloodstream, transmitting to every part of his body.

”Ah...”

Lorenzo let out a long breath. With the injection of the potion, the terrible sensation could be somewhat alleviated, but the fatigue on both his spirit and body couldn’t be easily erased.

He struggled to sit up, removed the needles from his body, and untied the bandages. With the calm of Secret Blood, the self-healing speed of the flesh and blood beneath slowed down, but now only external injuries remained. It seemed that the fractures had mostly healed during his dormancy.

”Insight into the future.”

Lorenzo rubbed his eyes forcefully, never imagining that he could acquire such mysterious power in the darkness.

All along, Lorenzo had a strong curiosity about this power, especially since Lawrence’s madness back then was because he saw the dark future through Authority·Shangdafeng, which drove him to his so-called ”salvation” actions.

In this light, Lawrence bore a strong sense of fatalism. He believed in destiny, believed in the arrival of the future, and believed he would die in that future.

Suddenly, Lorenzo had a slightly crazy idea.

He knew very well that the more he took from the darkness, the more the cost Lorenzo would have to pay.

But... what if he didn’t attempt to see such a distant future?

Yes, just delve a little deeper to glimpse the future of Old Dunling, the end of this war.

A faint light swirled in his eyes. Lorenzo had just awoken from a coma, bearing injuries. Logically, he should take a good rest, but once this thought arose in his mind, it couldn’t stop fermenting, continuously urging him by his ear.

But what if the future he saw was grim?

Lorenzo suddenly thought about it. What if he saw a failed outcome? Old Dunling would fall, the Purification Mechanism would be destroyed, and no one could stop Roger’s advance until everything fell into Lawrence’s prophecy.

If such a future were seen, would he still have the courage to continue?

Yes, would he still have the courage to continue? With fear in his heart, walking towards a bleak future.

Then what about Lawrence?

In front of Lorenzo’s eyes flashed that crimson ocean, in a field of golden brilliance, everything met their end.

”Lawrence... what is the outcome?”

Lorenzo’s voice trembled slightly. He suddenly realized he didn’t know the outcome of that doomsday battle. It seemed Lawrence wasn’t clear either. The only thing he knew was that he would die in that doomsday battle, but what about after?

The aftermath, is it victory or defeat?

The so-called future, is it predestined like fate, or is there still a possibility for change?

Lorenzo felt terrible. Previously, he didn’t have such an opportunity; but now he had the ability to ”cheat,” yet this resulted in even deeper pain.

The heavy door was pushed open, making a creaking sound. Lorenzo jerked his head up, his eyes filled with bloodshot, vigilantly watching the newcomer.

”I heard from them that this ward is used to confine uncontrollable patients, like those close to the Abyss,” Left Garrison walked in, speaking to himself, ”those who have a shred of sanity but have already begun demonization.

”Left Garrison.” Lorenzo called out his name.

Left Garrison nodded with a smile, then said, ”Mr. Holmes.”

Lorenzo looked at him with some confusion. He had no connection with Left Garrison, and even the number of times they met could be counted on one hand. He didn’t understand why Left Garrison came at this time, making him feel a bit uneasy.

In his eyes, Left Garrison was like a cunning old fox, always wearing a hypocritical fake smile.

Such people seem amiable to everyone, but when necessary, they can easily sacrifice anyone. More frighteningly, Lorenzo could be sure that Left Garrison would sincerely feel sorrow for the deceased and then continue to sacrifice indifferently, as if the two were not contradictory.

Yes, not contradictory.

”What’s the situation?”

Lorenzo asked, wanting to know what had happened during his coma.

”It’s okay, still under control. The Broken Dome has fallen, command departments are being relocated to new positions, Knight Commanders suffered significant losses, Percival cannot continue to fight, Gareth has already died in service.”

Left Garrison stood aside, not sitting down, maintaining a relatively safe distance from Lorenzo.

”Gareth...”

Lorenzo’s expression showed some surprise, but after thinking about it, the Knight Commander is also human, and as long as one is human, death is inevitable, just a matter of when and where.
