Gun of Ashes

In the deep of night, it’s a good time; the noise outside gradually fades away, leaving only a monotonous tranquility.

The Red Falcon lies on a soft bed, having just finished a bath, he feels fragrant.

The dim room is lit by soft moonlight in one corner. Although he was very sleepy before, the Red Falcon finds it hard to sleep. He turns over and looks at the other bed where Hebdo is lying. However, he is positioned in the darkest part of the room, and even the moonlight can’t illuminate him. The Red Falcon doesn’t know if he is asleep.

Now that things have calmed down, the Red Falcon realizes that this job wasn’t so bad after all; he was just doing supporting work. To be more specific, he was responsible for assessing Eve, while Hebdo was responsible for the detailed intelligence of the work. The only one truly executing it from start to finish was Lorenzo alone.

In other words, even if there were a mountain of knives or a sea of flames ahead, the first to go would still be the invincible Lorenzo Holmes, having little to do with an ordinary person like himself.

Thinking of this, the Red Falcon can’t help but feel much more at ease. Thinking further, putting aside these tasks, this could be considered a business trip as well, after all, the Red Falcon hasn’t been to Gaulunaro before.

The Red Falcon is an Ingwig native, from some unknown corner, mingling in the Lower City District of Old Dunling. By a stroke of luck, he was recruited by Bola and became a member of the Purification Mechanism. Just like that, as everyone is familiar with, he developed into who he is today.

In essence, the life of the Red Falcon is actually quite monotonous. Although others might think serving a secret agency is something very cool, when something cool becomes a daily job, it’s nothing special anymore.

Sometimes, the Red Falcon also feels that life is a dark void, getting up early and going to bed late just to slay demons or prepare to slay demons. This job has an absurdly high mortality rate, and although the compensation is decent, earning this money tends to be nerve-wracking.

But the Red Falcon is also someone who is easily satisfied or perhaps he is very adept at amusing himself to pass the tedious hours. He’s almost overly optimistic.

Such a mindset is probably what helped the Red Falcon survive one ordeal after another.

The Red Falcon tiredly opens his eyes.

Can’t sleep.

He crawls to the edge of the bed, opens his luggage, and takes out a few books, then turns on the desk lamp. Fortunately, the light isn’t very bright; if he wakes Hebdo, the Red Falcon would feel a bit embarrassed.

He sits up, picks up a book, and opens it along the bookmark, continuing his previous reading.

”Hawk Under the Night,” a knight novel secretly circulating within Old Dunling.

The Red Falcon has vaguely heard about the circulation of such novels. Not being recognized by the public, they are only secretly disseminated through certain channels, quite reminiscent of secret gatherings. The first time the Red Falcon came across it was during a visit to Bola, who discovered that someone had recently established a printing factory in the Lower City District to print these things.

Perhaps relating to his own code name ”Red Falcon,” he was quite interested in this book, so he took a few to read and pass the time.

The story was quite interesting, telling of villains in the city, and when night falls, the masked protagonist comes out to punish the wicked and promote goodness. No one knows who he is, but his deeds are lauded, and every girl wishes to marry him...

Strangely, the Red Falcon resonates with this kind of story. When you think about it carefully, the actions of the Purification Mechanism are probably similar to what’s described in the story, though it lacks a bit of romance and has more harshness and reality.

”What are you reading?”

A voice suddenly speaks, startling the Red Falcon.

At some unknown point, Hebdo has woken up. He looks at the Red Falcon, curious about what this guy is reading instead of sleeping.

”Just a novel... Did I wake you?”

The Red Falcon closes the book and asks.

”Not really, I couldn’t sleep either.”

Hebdo says as he stands up, walks to the side, and gets a cup of water to drink.

The pajamas here are all small sizes for him, standing by the window gazing at the horizon of the sea.

”I’m pondering why Erin would be persecuted by the Iron Law Bureau. They were originally on the same side, could it be internal strife?”

”Erin Adler.”

The Red Falcon mutters the name. Before going to bed, Lorenzo finally found the files scattered under the sofa, so the Red Falcon more or less understood everything’s ins and outs.

”What kind of person is she?”

”What kind of person?”

Hebdo looks at the Red Falcon curiously, not understanding why he suddenly took an interest in Erin.

”Yeah, in your terms, Ivar is a strange guy that even his brothers find hard to approach. So what kind of magic does Erin have that she can easily captivate even Ivar, to the point of orchestrating his capture.”

The Red Falcon is very curious. You could say that the biggest mystery in the entire event is this woman named Erin Adler, who catalyzed the development of the entire incident.

A major reason why the Viking nations failed to protect Ivar is that they also didn’t expect this woman to approach Ivar so easily, thereby making all this happen.

”A very special woman. You’ve never met her, but if you see her, you’d understand... She has an indescribable magic power.”

Regarding this woman, Hebdo also doesn’t know how to describe her. His expression is quite complex; it seems Erin also left him with unforgettable memories.
