Gun of Ashes

Looking at the two people fighting together, Selyu sighed slightly, but still, she thought it was pretty good. Lorenzo was still the same as before, the storm hadn’t twisted him into a strange figure, and Selyu felt relieved about this.

After tidying up the place simply, the three sat together, and after the jokes, everyone became a bit serious.

”So you solved everything?”

Oscar asked somewhat seriously, he didn’t know the full picture of the events, but was aware of some of it.

”Yeah, those guys won’t bother me anymore.”

Lorenzo said confidently.

All grudges came to an end with the crash of the airship, Lorenzo killed Moriarty and retrieved the lost past... it all felt like the start of a new life, once again.

”I owe you, Oscar, you, and the Nordro behind you.” said Lorenzo.

”Oh, oh, oh, a promise from Lorenzo Holmes? That’s not bad.”

Oscar, hearing this, grinned like a cunning merchant.

”What do you plan to do next, Lorenzo?” asked Selyu, sitting on the side.

Facing this question, Lorenzo pointed to the surroundings of the room.

”Haven’t you seen? It’s an agency! Now I’m considered a legitimate detective, what do you call sticking to your original intentions!”

”I mean about the demons part.”

Selyu found the key question, Lorenzo was quite skilled at using all sorts of jokes and nonsense to divert people’s attention, which is what Selyu wanted to ask.

”Will you continue chasing them?”

Lorenzo hesitated for a moment, then answered with a smile.

”Those demon creatures are impossible to completely eliminate, Selyu, sometimes I feel they’re like our shadows, we can’t escape our shadow, nor can we eliminate it.”

”So just let it be?”

”Maybe.”

Lorenzo gave a vague answer but quickly changed the subject.

”From now on I’ll need you all to help with business, you know this seemingly peaceful life is too precious to me.”

Saying this, Lorenzo took out a stack of posters, the same ones Oscar showed Selyu, he stuffed these into Oscar’s arms.

”I remember your bookstore gets a lot of customers, remember to help me spread the word.”

Shortly after, he scooted over to sit beside Selyu, looking ingratiating.

”Being the head of the Stuart family, you nobles surely have some messy affairs, right? Some inheritance disputes, some affairs with mistresses, all this the detective can handle!”

Selyu looked at Lorenzo acting like this, momentarily she was lost, not sure if this guy was pretending, or if he really wanted to live a good life, even thinking of networking to get business.

”Calm down, calm down! Lorenzo!”

Pushing away Lorenzo, who started feeling a little uncomfortable, Selyu got up and escaped to the other side.

Looking carefully at the room again, Selyu sensed some differences.

Lorenzo lived here but never added any furniture, in fact, he didn’t have any personal belongings, this ascetic lifestyle in appearance, was actually because he never thought he would stay here long.

Perhaps on some burning night, he would take up the weapons hidden under the bed and never return, leaving without any attachment.

But this time it’s different, he bought many new things and decorated this place a bit, although messy, it indeed started to look like an agency.

Apparently, he’s no longer wandering, choosing to settle here.

As for the demons, as for the battles...

Selyu knew Lorenzo well, and she knew this guy liked hiding weapons in some strange places, yet this time, except for the Winchester hung high up, there seemed to be no other weapons here, and the Winchester itself looked more like a craft piece.

This storm perhaps truly changed Lorenzo, making the madman lay down his knife, and instead, he seriously enjoyed life.

Good thing! This is a good thing! One less self-destructive lunatic in the world, instead, there’s a detective who loves life, sounds pretty good.

”What are you writing?”

Oscar, seeing Lorenzo picking up the pen to write after failing to secure investment, asked.

”Bills, daily expenses, and periodic remittances to the orphanage... Wow, those nuns have no business acumen, when I took over, they were already bankrupt! Of course, I’m almost there too.”

Perhaps this is the price for seriously living, Lorenzo’s head was spinning.

Turns out there are so many things to consider in life, having a house doesn’t mean you can just move in immediately, there’s water bills, electricity bills, gas bills, etc., and all those collection points are scattered across the entire district, making Lorenzo have to run around the district every time he pays.

Not only that, Lorenzo also has to clean regularly, cook for himself, such a life was exciting at first, he could sing loudly, run around in pajamas, sleep wherever he wanted, but after a few days, Lorenzo started to miss Mrs. Van Rudd.

Being taken care of felt wonderful.

”In your impression, I’ve always been chopping and slashing, but I’m really good in the detective field! Though my work has been mostly in the Lower City District and involved a bit of chopping and slashing, I feel I will do quite well.”

Regarding his future plans, Lorenzo explained it this way.

”And strictly speaking, the old Order has been disbanded, I’m no longer a demon hunter, but rather this detective is my official profession now!”

Finally, Lorenzo answered Selyu and Oscar’s question seriously.

The three pairs of eyes exchanged looks, then drifted.

”Though you’ve said so much, you’re really hard to believe, this guy.”

Oscar rubbed his temples, thinking it was a bit headache-inducing.

Lorenzo was an unpredictable lunatic, a cunning fiend was the perfect way to describe him.

”Relax, isn’t everything rather good now?”

He lazily squeezed back into his spot.

The atmosphere was quite good, it had been a long time since Lorenzo experienced such peaceful days, this rare calm but regrettably, this calm couldn’t last long, as a heavy knocking sound occurred followed by the door opening.

Behind was the dim street, Arthur stood expressionlessly at the door with one dark silhouette after another behind him.

”Alright, you two, our wonderful gathering ends here for today, give me and him some space.”

To Arthur’s arrival, Lorenzo didn’t look surprised, in fact, he sighed in relief.

Lorenzo stood up, walked to the newly bought mahogany table, pushed the messy items off, clothes, books, and plates piled up with clattering sounds.

He pulled a chair to sit behind the desk, then dug out a standing sign from the chaos and put it on the desk.

On it was written ”Lorenzo Holmes.”

Oscar’s expression changed, no one knew what he went through with Arthur, he seemed very afraid of him, pulling Selyu along as they left, Selyu, on leaving, couldn’t help but look at the pile of mixed items.

Plates, books, and clothes... She couldn’t imagine the disgusting scene.

Arthur stepped over the clutter directly, dragged over a shaky chair, and sat opposite Lorenzo.

”Are you planning to retire?”

He looked around this amusingly decorated office, then at Lorenzo, and asked.

”What do you think?”

Lorenzo retorted, with both hands resting on the desk, fingers interlocked, his expression appeared like that of a cunning fox.
