Super Gene Hunting Ground

Wang Qian immediately took out the Big Blood Pill to heal her wounds.

Yang Xiao said somewhat apologetically:

”Do you need me to bandage your wound?”

Wang Qian said lightly:

”No need.”

She took out a set of professional wound-dressing items from her space ring, skillfully applied some unknown medicinal powder on the wound, and quickly wrapped it up.

Cui Yuan and Gong Yu hurried over, asking all sorts of questions with concern, then turned to Yang Xiao and said:

”Brother, aren’t you being too harsh? Facing a beautiful senior sister like Wang Qian, you could still go through with it?”

”Exactly, you have no heart for pitying beauty.”

Yang Xiao: ”...”

Damn it, if I hadn’t retracted my Sword Qi in time, Wang Qian would have been gone by now.

Yang Xiao glanced at the two of them, could only smile faintly, and said:

”Sorry, I couldn’t hold back at the moment.”

By now, Wang Qian had already bandaged her wound and said:

”You two, don’t blame Yang Xiao. If he hadn’t retracted in time, I might have died... Yang Xiao, thank you.”

Master Lei walked over and said:

”Yang Xiao, your Golden Bee Sword Skill is indeed impressive, but your attack power greatly exceeds your evolution level. Also, what was that Sword Qi you manifested at the end? It didn’t feel consistent with Genetic Evolution Energy.”

Yang Xiao had to admire that Master Lei truly had a keen eye.

”Master Lei, you’re entirely correct. I have a Soul Skill that can temporarily boost my combat power by 50%, so the attack power of the Golden Bee Sword Skill you saw indeed exceeds the level I should have.”

In fact, revealing this much already counted as divulging his secret.

The Beast Soul, Soul Skills, especially special Cultivation Skills a person possesses, are considered unique secrets, and outsiders wouldn’t usually ask.

Once spoken of, opponents would take precautions, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of the Soul Skills’ attacks.

Master Lei wasn’t unaware of the rules, but his curiosity was just too great, leading him to ask.

Yang Xiao didn’t want to embarrass him, so he vaguely explained, but he didn’t mention anything about Xuanming Country’s Ancient Martial Arts.

Yang Xiao was now teaching Xiao Ling and Yelu Caiyun the Shenming Mountain Sect’s Ancient Martial Arts, specially instructing them to practice it alone and not to share it with others or pass it on.

Master Lei nodded and said:

”Yang Xiao, with your current combat power, barring any surprises, you are sure to be the champion at the Primary Level in this exchange match with Heavenly Dragon Academy.”

”Haha, Master Lei is too kind. Who knows what kind of experts Heavenly Dragon Academy will send.”

”I’m not exaggerating. With your current combat power, you’d still be formidable even if you advanced into the Intermediate Realm.”

Master Lei exclaimed, while Wang Qian and the other two felt a little embarrassed hearing this.

Master Lei had been tutoring them for half a year, often saying:

”No way, with your combat power, you can’t defeat opponents from Heavenly Dragon Academy.”

But now, his praise for Yang Xiao was extremely high, as if Yang Xiao had already defeated Heavenly Dragon Academy’s opponents.

Master Lei continued:

”Yang Xiao, do you have any thoughts or requirements regarding training? As long as I can fulfill them, I’ll try my best to help you.”

Yang Xiao thought for a moment and said:

”My main task now is to improve Genetic Evolution, so I plan to continue cultivating to enhance my Genetic Evolution Ability. I’ll spend half the day in the practice room under particle radiation, and I also have some special cultivation that requires time.

Hmm, how about this, I’ll come here every afternoon, and you arrange for a senior brother at the Empire Middle Level Realm to spar with me, how about that.”

Yang Xiao requested Master Lei to help him by arranging at least one Empire Middle Level Realm senior brother to spar with him daily, while maintaining his current cultivation methods unchanged.

”Okay, no problem. Everything will proceed according to your plans. If you need any other help, just let me know.”

...

And so, a month passed, with Yang Xiao coming to this small courtyard where Master Lei was, every day, to spar with a senior brother at the Empire Middle Level Realm.

The opponent could use any skill, including Beast Soul, various Cultivation Techniques, weapons, etc.

What Yang Xiao needed was to face various complex opponents to hone his adaptability.

Yang Xiao was always able to beat those Empire Middle Level Realm senior brothers to a pulp, which amazed Wang Qian and the other two, as well as Master Lei.

Moreover, in one month, Yang Xiao had never used his Beast Soul, except when utilizing Soul Skills.

This made Master Lei and Wang Qian, who were eager to witness Yang Xiao’s Beast Soul, itch with curiosity, but they refrained from asking since a person’s Beast Soul is personal, and it’s improper for outsiders to inquire.

Yang Xiao spent his days at the small courtyard library, accompanying Elder Ye, cultivating the Life and Death Iteration Law, reading on the second floor, and organizing all the books in the library at night.

Now, Yang Xiao could organize the books on all three floors in just about an hour.

He had reached the level where, like Elder Ye, walking past a bookshelf, he could instantly arrange dozens to hundreds of books on the shelf, making them align automatically.

Of course, he hadn’t yet reached Elder Ye’s level.

Elder Ye could briskly run past a bookshelf, and all the books would automatically align. It took Elder Ye only a few minutes to organize the books on all three floors.

Xiao Ling visited the library every night to bring him supper, and Yang Xiao accompanied Xiao Ling back to her dormitory every few days to enjoy their time together.

Because Xiao Ling had broken through to the Empire Middle Level Realm, she had become a minor official in the Primary Academy department, and her work had become busier.

The academy even set her up as a benchmark for advanced mentors and promised to focus on her cultivation, with all costs covered by the academy.

That night, after Yang Xiao finished organizing the library, it was empty, and he returned to the courtyard.

Elder Ye was still resting on the lounge chair under the big tree in the courtyard and said upon seeing Yang Xiao return:

”Your spiritual power has increased a lot recently!”

”Hehe, I’ve been working as a voluntary librarian for more than half a year; there should be some progress, right?”

”Good, I can see your spiritual power has a foundation as well. Your progress is faster than I anticipated; I thought it would take you about a year to lay the foundation, but you’ve made small achievements in six months.

Let’s start by using your spiritual power to control the leaves of this big tree.”

Yang Xiao was stunned.

”What do you mean?”

”Do you see the fallen leaves on the ground?”

Yang Xiao glanced around and nodded.

Under the nearby lights, he could see some scattered fallen leaves on the ground.

Yang Xiao swept away hundreds of fallen leaves every day in the courtyard.

”Stand here, use your spiritual power to try controlling the fallen leaves, like controlling books. Start small with a few leaves or a dozen and gradually increase.”

Yang Xiao nodded, glanced at the leaves on the ground, closed his eyes slightly, and his Divine Sense surged.

About ten leaves nearby suddenly flew up from the ground.

He heard Elder Ye’s voice by his ear.

”Try using those leaves to attack the trunk of this big tree.”

The trunk of this big tree had a diameter of at least two meters, a height of thirty to forty meters, and a canopy diameter of fifty meters.

Yang Xiao focused, controlling the dozen leaves,

whoosh, they flew toward the trunk.

”Pop, pop, pop...”

A series of soft sounds occurred as the dozen leaves hit the trunk, creating craters in the rough bark.

Elder Ye leaned back in the lounge chair, eyes slightly closed, and spoke softly:

”Let me demonstrate it to you once, watch carefully.”

As Elder Ye finished speaking, Yang Xiao saw ten leaves rise up from the ground, suspended in front of him.

”Go!”

Elder Ye lightly commanded, the ten leaves transformed into beams of light and hit the trunk with a faint ”hissing” sound.

Yang Xiao was stunned, approached the trunk, and was astonished after a glance.

The ten leaves had all embedded themselves into the sturdy trunk, barely sinking in with only a hint of green exposed.

If Elder Ye had used a Longsword or other weapons, Yang Xiao wouldn’t think much of it, but these leaves were extremely light and thin, resembling willow leaves—long, about ten centimeters, and only 2-3 centimeters wide.

Yang Xiao could shatter the trunk with a diameter of over two meters with a punch or slice the tree apart with a Longsword,

but to use spiritual power to embed a dozen centimeters long, slender leaf into the trunk; he couldn’t achieve it.

This was different from Xuanming Country’s ancient martial arts legend of Flying Flower Picking Leaf’s Inner Strength.

The Flying Flower Picking Leaf uses Inner Strength to fling leaves, which carry attack damage at high speeds.

Yet Elder Ye employed spiritual power without touching the leaves with his hands, relying on special spiritual power control.

Moreover, with Elder Ye’s cultivation, anything within a hundred meters could be manipulated by his spiritual power and used to attack opponents,

more frighteningly, he could simultaneously control hundreds of objects, attacking different targets separately.

Elder Ye opened his eyes, glanced at the dazed Yang Xiao, and said indifferently:

”I am teaching you a combat skill set for controlling leaves with spiritual power, which I have uniquely created. I call it the Tree Leaf Skill, you won’t find it in the library.”

The old man spoke with some pride.

Tree Leaf Skill? This name is so rustic!

Yang Xiao thought to himself, no wonder the old man sat under this big tree every day napping; turns out he was contemplating the Tree Leaf Skill annually?

Yang Xiao quickly praised:

”Elder Ye, you’re so amazing, why don’t you establish a sect and recruit disciples to spread your cultivation techniques?”

”Hehe, in the era of Genetic Evolution, more depends on the genetic evolution’s talent rather than some powerful Cultivation Skills; personal abilities are weak, only the academy’s format fit this new era,

ahem, off-topic, I’ll teach you the mental method secrets, listen carefully...”

Elder Ye spent about half an hour teaching Yang Xiao a mental method for controlling leaves as an attack.

Because Yang Xiao had been organizing books for half a year, he had grasped the basics, so he learned very quickly. Elder Ye explained it twice, and Yang Xiao basically mastered it.

”Alright, from now on cultivate yourself, when you can embed leaves into the trunk one-third deep, you’ll have small success and can be used for combat.”
