Super Gene Hunting Ground

At noon, Elder Zhan went out to buy some meat dishes and a pot of wine, and made a sumptuous meal.

The grandfather and granddaughter hadn’t eaten such a lavish meal in a long time, and Bing’er was drooling all the time, urging her grandfather to cook quickly.

However, because of Yang Xiao, Bing’er was especially well-behaved today. Even though her saliva kept flowing, she firmly controlled the craving in her stomach and resisted sneaking a bite before her grandfather and Yang Xiao sat at the table.

She decided to leave a good impression on this new uncle and couldn’t let him think she was impolite and dislike her.

A child’s mind is very simple and pure.

After eating, Elder Zhan said to Yang Xiao:

”Young Master Yang,”

Yang Xiao quickly interrupted him, saying:

”From now on let’s call each other father and son. I’ll call you father, and you call me Zhan Mu or Mu’er, otherwise, if someone accidentally finds out, it could be bad.”

Elder Zhan laughed and said:

”Then I’ll have to trouble you.”

”Haha, listen to you—I’m your son, what’s the trouble?”

Elder Zhan laughed heartily and said:

”Zhan Mu, I still have to go to a nearby brick factory to move bricks; I’ll trouble you to stay home with Bing’er. Bing’er is very sensible and familiar with all areas of the slums. If you want to go anywhere, just take her with you and remember to come back by evening.”

Yang Xiao thought for a moment and said:

”Father, going to move bricks isn’t a long-term plan. You won’t be able to sustain Bing’er in the future.”

Elder Zhan sighed and said:

”I have no other options. My Genetic Evolution Level is only Enhanced Gene Intermediate; with this limited ability, it’s all I can do to make a living.”

”Have you thought about setting up a small business?”

”Oh, everyone in the slums is poor. What kind of business can be done? Selling sugar water every night is just barely enough to make ends meet.”

Yang Xiao thought, your sugar water tastes awful; it’s no wonder the business isn’t good.

”Is there anything like an ice cream shop in Dragon City?”

”Ice cream shop?”

Elder Zhan indicated he didn’t understand and shook his head.

Yang Xiao explained:

”It’s about mixing various sugar waters to make ice and sell it.”

Elder Zhan thought for a while and shook his head.

”How about I teach you to make something called ice cream, which is much better than your sugar water? The business shouldn’t be bad.”

”Ice cream?”

Elder Zhan said it was the first time he had heard of this new term.

Bing’er was very interested and asked:

”Uncle, what is ice cream?”

”I can’t explain it all at once; let me ask you, does Dragon City have milk drinks and the like?”

”We do have that.”

”Good, go buy some raw materials for me, and I’ll teach you how to make ice cream. Once it’s successful, I’ll help you open a small ice cream shop on the slum’s commercial street. That way, you can maintain Bing’er, making it a long-term plan.”

Elder Zhan didn’t know what ice cream was, but since Yang Xiao was so confident, he chose to trust Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao listed several ingredients: milk, sugar, fresh fruits, beans.

Yang Xiao had spent over ten days in Dragon City, eating at the Royal Inn, and snacking on the commercial streets outside, gaining some understanding of this world’s food. Besides the specific fruit names being different, similar ingredients such as rock sugar and beans were available here.

Yang Xiao was out of cash; if he used the Black Crystal Card, he had to personally swipe for a fingerprint password, which he naturally wanted to avoid.

After thinking it over, he took out a regular Magic Attribute Longsword from the Space Ring and handed it to Elder Zhan.

”Take this to the Genetic Store and sell it; it should fetch around eight thousand or ten thousand Crystal Coins. Use this money to buy the raw materials.”

Elder Zhan immediately shook his head and said:

”No, how could I pawn your weapon? Besides, buying these raw materials won’t cost more than one or two hundred Crystal Coins. There’s no need to pawn your weapon. I’ll just borrow some money from the neighbors.”

Yang Xiao laughed and said:

”This sword is something I picked up outside; I don’t really need it. Besides, we’ll need money to open a shop later. The neighbors are all poor; where would they have so much money to lend us?”

With no other choice, Elder Zhan reluctantly took Yang Xiao’s sword and went out, feeling rather ashamed.

...

Long Aotian waited at home until dinner time, but Xue Gang still didn’t show up.

After dinner, Long Aotian took a walk in the courtyard, noticing it was getting late. He wondered about the no-show from Xue Gang and his men after he had instructed them to assassinate Yang Xiao earlier.

He struggled with his anxious heart, returned to the study to read for a while, but couldn’t concentrate, so he put his book away and told a servant to call Long Hao.

Long Hao hurried over,

”Your Highness, you called?”

”Go find the Guard Team’s Xue Gang and see what’s happening. I told him to handle something today and he hasn’t come back yet.”

”Okay, I’ll immediately send someone to find Xue Gang.”

After speaking, Long Hao turned and left.

About half an hour later, Long Hao led some people to the Royal Inn and encountered the two guards Xue Gang had arranged to wait there at the entrance.

Seeing the two, Long Hao asked:

”Where’s Xue Gang?”

”Chief Hao, Brother Gang went after Yang Xiao and told us to wait here.”

”How long has it been?”

”At least five or six hours.”

”Why is that kid Xue Gang being so slow with this task? Taking care of someone who hasn’t even reached the Emperor Level Realm shouldn’t take this long!”

Long Hao waited half an hour more at the Royal Inn but lost his patience and left with his men to search around Dragon City.

It was already night; the streets were bustling and crowded with people, making it a needle-in-a-haystack scenario to find someone in the busy streets.

Long Hao and his team searched until midnight, after which everyone had gone home and still couldn’t find anything.

”Damn it, where the hell did Xue Gang go?”

With no other options, Long Hao returned to Prince Manor to report to Long Aotian.

”Your Highness, we haven’t found Xue Gang or his men. We’ve searched all the alleys.”

Long Aotian paused for a moment and said:

”No rush; he might have gone outside the city. If Xue Gang hasn’t returned by tomorrow morning, send out the Prince Manor’s Guard Team to search.”

”Yes.”

Long Aotian didn’t sleep a wink that night. He couldn’t shake his uneasy feeling, regretting that he had entrusted Xue Gang and his men with this task.

”Oh, why is this night so long? Time is passing so slowly.”

Long Aotian sighed through the night, becoming groggy by dawn. When he woke up, it was around nine in the morning—precisely when Yang Xiao was thrashing Zhou the rogue three and his men in the slums.

However, Long Aotian would never have dreamed that Yang Xiao was right in the slums at that moment.

Long Aotian found Long Hao,

”Has Xue Gang returned with a report?”

”No.”

Long Aotian’s heart skipped a beat,

”This is bad; something’s happened.”

Long Hao looked at Long Aotian skeptically and asked:

”Your Highness, surely nothing could have happened with Yang Xiao just at the King Level Realm; Xue Gang and his men were all at the Empire Level Realm. Perhaps they chased Yang Xiao outside Dragon City.”

Long Aotian shook his head,

”With Xue Gang and his men’s capabilities, they could traverse from east to west across the entire Dragon City in less than half an hour. If they were chasing Yang Xiao outside the city, they should have returned by now, unless,”

”Unless Yang Xiao somehow killed them? That’s unlikely, isn’t it?”

Long Hao absolutely refused to believe Yang Xiao could kill Xue Gang and the others.

”Immediately dispatch the Guard Team to search around outside Dragon City. Also, inquire with the Guard Team responsible for Dragon City’s defense about any fights or bodies found last night.”

”Yes, I’ll personally lead the search immediately.”

Long Aotian waited until noon, looking at the full table of dishes with no appetite.

Long Hao dispatched over a hundred guards from Prince Manor, but there was still no word back, heightening his unease.

Long Aotian recalled Yang Xiao’s countless legendary tales from Purple Origin Star, and his inner anxiety grew.

Long Hao flew in from above Prince Manor, asked about the Prince’s whereabouts, and ran to the dining hall.

”Your Highness, something bad happened.”

Long Aotian’s head buzzed, and he shot up from his seat.

”Speak quickly.”

”All three of Xue Gang’s men are dead.”
