Rin sat alone in the darkness.

The room was quiet. Too quiet.

He had spent the last hour trying to understand the strange ability that had awakened inside him.

Truth Resonance.

That was what the System had called it but the System hadn’t explained much.

Of course it hadn’t. Rin stared at the ceiling.

”Why would a god leave me with instructions and no manual?”

The System remained silent.

”That’s rhetorical.”

Still nothing. Rin sighed. He closed his eyes.

The strange bell was still somewhere inside his mind. He could almost feel it waiting.

Not constantly. Only when someone said something that wasn’t true. But there was something he didn’t understand.

What counted as a lie? Did someone have to intentionally deceive him?

Could someone simply be mistaken? Could someone hide information without actually lying?

Rin had no idea and he wasn’t about to test the ability on the people around him.

.He needed to learn its rules first. Quietly. Without anyone noticing.

Especially Sol. Rin had already heard the bell when his brother spoke the previous night.

That bothered him. Not because Sol had necessarily meant to deceive him.

But because the bell had sounded. Which meant something about what Sol had said wasn’t completely true.

Rin sat up.

”What were you hiding?”

He didn’t know.

And he wasn’t going to ask. A knock came from the door.

Rin immediately stood.

”Who?”

”It’s me.”

Kaelith.

Rin opened the door. The Demon General stood outside. His black hair was slightly disheveled, and the red of his eyes looked darker in the dim corridor.

”You should sleep.”

Rin stared at him.

”Is everyone going to say that?”

”Probably.”

”You’re becoming predictable.”

Kaelith’s mouth twitched.

”I’ll survive.”

Rin smiled.

”What do you need?”

”I came to tell you that we’re leaving tomorrow.”

Rin’s expression changed.

”Leaving?”

”The Lost Realm has stabilized.”

Kaelith nodded toward the corridor.

”Vaeron and the remaining demons are preparing to return to the fortress.”

Rin thought for a moment.

”And Noctis?”

”He’s coming.”

”Sol?”

”Already packed.”

Rin sighed.

”Of course he is.”

Kaelith studied him.

”You don’t seem surprised.”

”I’m his brother.”

Rin smiled.

”I know him.”

Kaelith nodded.

For a moment, neither spoke. Then Rin noticed something. Kaelith was holding a small object. A black crystal.

”What is that?”

Kaelith looked down.

”This?”

”Yes.”

”I found it in the archive.”

Rin’s curiosity immediately returned.

”Why didn’t you tell me?”

”I wasn’t sure whether it was important.”

Rin held out his hand.

”Can I see it?”

Kaelith gave it to him. The moment Rin touched it—

nothing. No bell. No vision. No System message.

Just cold stone. Rin turned it over. There was a symbol carved into the bottom.

A broken circle. But it wasn’t the same symbol from his divine name.

”This isn’t from the Lost Realm.”

Kaelith shook his head.

”No.”

”Where did you find it?”

”Behind one of the walls.”

Rin frowned.

”Hidden?”

”Yes.”

Rin looked at the crystal again.

”Who put it there?”

”I don’t know.”

No bell.

Rin nodded. He believed him. He handed it back.

”Keep it.”

Kaelith looked surprised.

”Why?”

”Because if I keep collecting mysterious objects, we’re going to need another room.”

Kaelith almost smiled.

”I’ll keep it safe.”

”Good.”

Kaelith turned to leave.

Then stopped.

”Rin.”

”Yes?”

”You can trust me.”

Rin looked at him. There was no bell. The words were true. Rin smiled.

”I know.”

Kaelith left. Rin closed the door. He stood there for a while. That tiny moment had told him more than Kaelith knew.

The ability worked. And Kaelith hadn’t lied. Rin quietly whispered:

”Good.”

He didn’t know why that mattered so much.

Perhaps because, after everything that had happened, having someone whose words he didn’t have to question felt strangely comforting.

The next morning, the ruined palace was strangely peaceful. The surviving demons prepared their belongings.

The ancient soldiers had disappeared again. The Lost Realm seemed almost ordinary.

Rin stood near the outer gate with Sol and Noctis. Noctis was watching the horizon.

Sol was arguing with a System notification only he could see. Rin smiled.

”You know it can’t hear you.”

Sol frowned.

”It can.”

”Then why are you arguing with it?”

”Because it’s wrong.”

Rin laughed. Noctis looked at him.

”You seem happier.”

Rin shrugged.

”Maybe I’m getting used to the insanity.”

Noctis smiled.

”That would be dangerous.”

”Probably.”

Rin looked toward the palace.

For a moment, he wondered whether he should tell them about Aelion but he didn’t.

That name belonged to a part of himself that was still too fragile. And there was another reason.

The God had been the one to confirm it. Rin didn’t know why, but he felt that mattered.

He wanted to understand his own past before allowing everyone else into it.

”Rin.”

He turned.

Noctis was looking at him.

”What?”

”You’ve been staring at the palace for five minutes.”

”Have I?”

”Yes.”

”Maybe I’m saying goodbye.”

Noctis looked at him.

”You’ve never been here before.”

Rin smiled.

”Maybe some part of me has.”

Noctis didn’t answer. He simply looked at the ruined palace.

”Perhaps.”

Rin noticed something.

No bell. Noctis believed what he said. That made Rin feel strangely relieved.

They left before noon. The journey through the mountains was quiet. For the first few hours, nobody spoke much.

Rin walked beside Kaelith. Sol remained nearby. Noctis rode slightly ahead with Vaeron.

Rin occasionally caught himself watching Noctis. Not because of romantic feelings. Something else.

He was trying to understand the difference between the Noctis who remembered him and the Rin he had become.

They weren’t the same people anymore. Perhaps they never would be. And maybe that was okay.

Noctis eventually looked back.

”You keep staring.”

Rin blinked.

”I wasn’t.”

”You were.”

”I was thinking.”

”About me?”

Rin nearly tripped.

”No!”

Noctis laughed.

”Then what?”

”About your memories.”

Noctis’s smile faded.

”What about them?”

”How difficult is it?”

Noctis understood immediately.

”Remembering?”

”Yes.”

Noctis looked ahead.

”Sometimes it feels like carrying the lives of people who no longer exist.”

Rin became quiet.

”That sounds painful.”

”It can be.”

”Then why keep remembering?”

Noctis looked at him.

”Because someone should.”

Rin didn’t know how to answer that. Noctis turned forward again.

”Some memories deserve to survive.”

Rin looked down.

Aelion. Perhaps that was why his own soul had started remembering. Not because the memories wanted to return.

Because they had waited long enough. That evening, they stopped beside a frozen river.

Campfires were lit. Rin sat away from everyone else. He took the strange crystal Kaelith had found.

He hadn’t told anyone that he had kept it after Kaelith gave it to him.

Actually, Kaelith had given it to him. Rin had simply forgotten to return it. He placed it on the ground.

Nothing. He touched it. Still nothing. Then he whispered:

”Aelion.”

The crystal cracked. Rin immediately pulled his hand away. A thin golden line appeared across its surface.

”What the...”

The crack widened. A small image appeared inside the crystal.

Not a person. A door. A massive white door covered in ancient symbols.

Rin stared. He recognized the symbol in the center.

His incomplete name.

AEL—

Then another symbol appeared.

Rin couldn’t read it. But he could feel it.

It was connected to him. The image changed.

The door opened. Beyond it was darkness. Then a voice. His own voice.

”If you’re seeing this, you’ve remembered enough.”

Rin’s heart stopped. It was the voice of his divine self.

Not a recording. Not the System. A memory.

”Don’t open the door.”

Rin stared.

”Why?”

The memory continued.

”Because the person waiting behind it isn’t your enemy.”

Rin’s expression changed. Then the memory ended. The crystal became ordinary again.

Rin sat completely still. Not his enemy. Then who?

He had expected another warning. Another monster. Another god.

Instead, his former self had warned him not to open a door because someone was waiting behind it.

Someone who wasn’t his enemy. Rin whispered:

”Then who are you?”

The answer didn’t come. But footsteps approached.

Rin quickly put the crystal away. Kaelith appeared.

”You disappeared.”

”I needed air.”

Kaelith sat beside him. For a while, neither spoke. Then Kaelith looked at the river.

”Are you afraid?”

Rin thought about it.

”Yes.”

”Of what?”

”Remembering.”

Kaelith nodded.

”I understand.”

Rin looked at him.

”Do you?”

”Not completely.”

Kaelith was honest.

”But I know what it’s like to discover that the person you thought you were isn’t the whole truth.”

Rin smiled faintly.

”That’s almost philosophical.”

”Don’t get used to it.”

Rin laughed. Then he looked toward the stars.

”Kaelith.”

”Hm?”

”If you discovered that someone you trusted had lied to you for years...”

Kaelith looked at him.

”Would you forgive them?”

”No.”

Rin blinked.

”Really?”

”I would hear their reason first.”

”But if they had a good reason?”

”That doesn’t erase the lie.”

Rin looked down.

”That’s true.”

Kaelith continued:

”But I would decide whether they deserved another chance.”

Rin looked at him.

”And if you didn’t know whether they were lying?”

Kaelith frowned.

”Then I’d judge them by what they do.”

Rin smiled.

”You’re wiser than you look.”

Kaelith raised an eyebrow.

”And you’re more annoying than you look.”

”That’s impossible.”

”It isn’t.”

Rin laughed.

The moment was peaceful. Simple. And for some reason, Rin wanted to keep it that way.

Later that night, everyone was asleep.

Rin remained awake. He stared at the crystal. He thought about the God.

About Aelion. About the door. And then—

Ding.

Rin froze.

Someone had spoken. He slowly looked toward the camp. Everyone appeared asleep.

Then another voice came.

Quiet.

Almost impossible to hear.

”Rin.”

He turned. No one.

”Rin.”

This time he recognized it.

Sol.

Rin stood. He walked toward his brother. Sol was sitting near the dying fire.

”You weren’t asleep.”

Sol shook his head.

”No.”

Rin sat beside him.

”Why?”

Sol looked into the flames.

”I had a dream.”

Rin waited. Sol continued:

”I saw our father.”

Rin’s expression changed.

”What happened?”

”He told me something.”

”What?”

Sol looked at him.

”I don’t know if I should tell you.”

Rin felt the strange bell waiting somewhere inside his mind.

He stayed silent. Sol continued:

”He said...”

A pause.

”...that if you remember your full name, the System won’t be able to protect you anymore.”

Rin stared.

Ding.

The bell rang. Quiet. Clear. Rin’s heart stopped.

Sol had lied. Not intentionally. Rin could see that immediately.

His brother wasn’t trying to deceive him. Something else was wrong.

”Sol.”

”Yes?”

”Where did you hear that?”

”In the dream.”

Ding.

Another lie. Rin’s expression remained calm. But inside, his thoughts raced.

Sol hadn’t heard it in a dream. Then where? Rin smiled faintly.

”Okay.”

Sol looked relieved. Rin didn’t tell him what he’d discovered. He simply looked toward the dark mountains.

Someone had altered the message. Someone was speaking through the System.

And someone had begun interfering with Sol’s memories. Rin finally understood why the letter had warned him:

Do not trust what the System tells you.

It wasn’t telling him to distrust Sol.

It was warning him thatsomeone could use the System to make people believe things that weren’t true.

Rin looked at his brother.

”Don’t worry.”

Sol nodded.

Rin smiled.

”I’ll figure it out.”

He didn’t tell Sol about the bell. He didn’t tell him that his words had sounded wrong. And he certainly didn’t tell him that, for the first time since his memories began returning, Rin was afraid.

Because if someone could manipulate the System... then the question wasn’t simply who cursed Rin?

It was:

Who had been controlling the story of his life?

And somewhere inside the darkness, a forgotten piece of Rin’s divine name began to awaken.
