The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!

The massive doors groaned open, revealing a vast chamber carved from obsidian stone. Torches flickered against jagged walls, casting long shadows that danced like ghosts in the dim light. The air smelled sulfurous, thick with the weight of ancient power and lingering tension.

Rin stepped through the threshold, clutching Kaelith’s hand tighter than he intended. His heart hammered painfully against his ribs, the nerves in his stomach twisting into an unforgiving knot. This was no small gathering. This was the heart of the demon realm—a war council seated to decide fates and strategies, and now, apparently, to judge him.

The chamber was a semicircle of imposing figures—demon lords and generals draped in armor etched with runes, eyes narrowed, sharp features illuminated by the flickering light. Their gazes locked onto Rin and Kaelith instantly, like predators assessing a threat. Murmurs rippled through the council as they took in the unlikely duo.

Rin’s breath caught. The air felt colder here. More hostile.

Kaelith’s grip was firm and grounding, a quiet reminder that he wasn’t alone.

One of the older demons, a hulking figure crowned with horns that twisted like black flames, leaned forward. His voice rumbled through the cavernous room like distant thunder.

”Kaelith, you bring a... companion. Explain.”

Kaelith stepped forward, voice steady, unwavering. ”This is Rin. They were summoned through a ritual ancient and forbidden, intended to bond a human—”

”To bond us for war,” Rin added quickly, trying to project confidence through trembling lips.

Several council members exchanged skeptical glances. Rin could feel the weight of their doubt like cold steel pressing against his skin.

Another demon, slender and sharp-eyed, interrupted, voice dripping with suspicion. ”A human in the demon war council? This is folly.”

Rin’s stomach dropped. That word—folly—echoed in his mind like a death sentence.

Kaelith’s eyes locked with the sharp-eyed demon’s. ”This human is a variable. One we must utilize to survive. Your skepticism is noted but irrelevant.”

Murmurs turned to grumbles. Clearly, many were resistant. Rin understood—it was one thing to have a demon general with a human bonded to him; it was another to accept that human as anything more than a liability.

Kaelith’s gaze softened slightly as it landed on Rin. ”We will demonstrate the value of this bond through strength.”

”That’s the idea,” Rin said under his breath, trying to sound casual, yet inside he was scrambling for courage.

The horned demon banged a massive fist against the stone floor. ”Very well. But this ’bond’ will be tested publicly. Show us this strength, or be cast out.”

A silent shiver ran through the council chamber. Rin looked to Kaelith, whose expression hardened with determination.

Suddenly, Rin felt a vibration through his wrist—the system alert flared again.

[System Message: Increase favorability by 15%. Public Relationship Display triggered.]

Rin groaned internally. ”Great. Step one of pretending to be in love? Go.”

Kaelith nodded once. ”We begin.”

They turned toward the council, and Rin felt the eyes focus as they prepared for the performance.

Kaelith’s hand found Rin’s again. This time, there was no hesitation as Rin interlaced his fingers with the demon’s. The simple gesture sent a shock through him—part nervous, part surprising warmth.

The council’s murmur grew louder.

”Explain,” the horned demon demanded.

Kaelith’s voice echoed through the chamber. ”Our bond is forged not only for war but for unity. Our proximity strengthens our resolve. Observe.”

With deliberate calm, Kaelith drew Rin closer—just a step. ”Rin,” he said low enough for only Rin to hear, ”maintain eye contact.”

Rin met Kaelith’s gaze, struggling to ignore the heat crawling up his neck.

Together, they turned back to the council, faces stoic.

Kaelith spoke again. ”Our relationship will serve as a symbol to unite our forces. A demonstration of trust.”

Rin forced a small smile, trying to steady his shaking hands. ”Yes. Trust.”

A council member scoffed, ”Trust is earned, not pretended.”

Rin sensed Kaelith’s tension, a rare flicker of frustration crossing his usually controlled features.

Kaelith’s voice hardened. ”Then we shall earn it.”

The chamber grew tense, anticipation thick in the air.

A younger demon, his armor shimmering with arcane symbols, gestured to Rin. ”Human, explain how you can contribute to this war.”

Rin cleared his throat, leveling his gaze around the room. ”I might be chaotic and unsuitable,” he admitted with a sardonic grin, ”but I’m adaptable. I learn fast. And with Kaelith’s guidance, I’ll be more than just a liability—I’ll be an asset.”

There was a pause, and then a ripple of surprise. It seemed some were impressed by Rin’s honesty and confidence.

The horned demon nodded slowly. ”Bold words for one so new. Your performance will be watched closely.”

The meeting continued, but Rin’s growing unease was tempered by a budding realization: he was no longer just a summoned outsider. To these powerful demons, he was a key player in something much bigger.

Kaelith’s hand remained steady in his, anchoring him.

Near the meeting’s end, the system chimed again, flashing a new message.

[Optional Objective: First Physical Contact. Establish a credible public display of affection.]

Rin’s eyes widened. ”Okay, no. That’s—nope. I am not hugging you in front of these guys.”

Kaelith’s gaze softened with something close to amusement. ”You said boundaries.”

Rin swallowed hard. ”Yeah. Boundaries.”

”Then we shall choose the smallest proximity needed.”

The council was watching, waiting. Rin took a shaky breath, then leaned slightly toward Kaelith, resting a hand briefly on the demon’s forearm—just enough to be noticed without crossing any personal lines. It was simple, understated, but it earned a few nods from the council.

Kaelith’s eyes met Rin’s, a silent acknowledgment passing between them.

The council’s expression shifted, subtly but unmistakably: curiosity turning toward acceptance, suspicion softening into cautious hope.

When the meeting adjourned, Rin exhaled deeply, relief washing over him like a wave.

Kaelith released his hand. ”You handled that well.”

Rin managed a weak grin. ”Barely survived.”

Kaelith’s rare smile was almost ghost-like. ”This war requires more than weapons. It requires trust, unity—emotions, even if feigned.”

Rin nodded, a new understanding settling between them. Their bond wasn’t just a chain. It was a weapon.

And in this war, that might be enough to save them both.
