The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!

The night was unusually quiet.

After everything that had happened, Rin had expected another disaster.

A crack in the sky. A System warning. A demon army.

Perhaps even another ancient being appearing to tell him that he wasn’t ready for something.

Instead, nothing happened. The moon remained high above the forest.

The wind moved gently through the trees. For once, there were no voices.

Rin sat alone on the balcony outside his room, resting his arms against the railing.

He couldn’t sleep too many things had changed in a single day.

His mother had finally told him part of the truth. Sol had learned that becoming the System had been an act of protection, not punishment.

Noctis had accepted that Rin wasn’t the same person he had loved.

And Kaelith... Rin stopped that thought.

He wasn’t ready to think about Kaelith. Not yet.

He looked toward the sky.

”I wonder what you were like.”

He wasn’t sure whether he meant his father. His former self. Or the God. Perhaps all three.

A faint golden light appeared beside him. Rin immediately stood. The light slowly took shape.

A person emerged from it. No armor. No crown. No divine weapon.

Just a young-looking man wearing a simple white robe. Rin knew him immediately.

The God.

For several seconds, neither moved. Rin reached instinctively toward his sword. The God raised both hands.

”I’m not here to fight.”

Rin remained cautious.

”Then why are you here?”

The God looked at him.

”Because I wanted to speak to you.”

”Why alone?”

”Because I don’t want anyone else to hear this.”

Rin studied his face. There was something strange about him. He didn’t look like the terrifying being Rin had imagined.

He looked tired. Almost painfully tired. Rin slowly lowered his hand.

”Fine.”

The God nodded.

”Thank you.”

Rin sat again. The God remained standing.

”You can sit.”

”I don’t think I deserve to.”

Rin frowned.

”What?”

The God looked away.

”I have done things that make it difficult for me to sit beside you.”

Rin didn’t answer. Eventually, the God sat several steps away. The silence between them was uncomfortable.

Finally, Rin spoke.

”Let’s start with something simple.”

The God smiled faintly.

”You always did like simple questions.”

Rin froze.

”What?”

The God looked at him.

”Nothing.”

Rin narrowed his eyes.

”No.”

The God sighed.

”You’ve started remembering.”

”A little.”

”Then perhaps I should finally tell you the truth.”

Rin’s heart began beating faster.

”The truth about what?”

”About us.”

Rin stared.

”Us?”

The God nodded.

”Before this world.”

Rin felt a strange pressure in his chest.

”I knew you before?”

The God smiled sadly.

”You did.”

”Where?”

”Another world.”

Rin went completely still. The God looked at the stars.

”You see... I wasn’t always a God.”

Rin frowned.

”What were you?”

”A child.”

That answer caught him off guard. The God continued.

”I was an orphan.”

Rin said nothing.

”I don’t remember my parents. I don’t know where I was born. I only remember being alone.”

His voice remained calm but there was something underneath it. Something old.

”I survived because the World noticed me.”

”The World?”

”Yes.”

He looked at Rin.

”When I was eighteen, the World gave me a choice.”

”What choice?”

”Become its God.”

Rin stared.

”You were eighteen?”

The God nodded.

”I was young. Very young. Too young.”

He smiled faintly.

”But I accepted.”

”Why?”

”Because I thought being a God meant I would never be alone again.”

Rin’s expression softened.

”Did it?”

”No.”

The answer was immediate.

”The World gave me power.”

He looked at his hands.

”It gave me responsibility.”

His eyes lowered.

”But it didn’t give me a family.”

Rin didn’t know what to say. The God continued.

”Then I met you.”

Rin’s heart skipped.

”Me?”

”You.”

He smiled.

”Not the Rin sitting here.”

”The other me?”

”Yes.”

The God leaned back.

”You were already a God of Love.”

Rin listened carefully.

”You could travel between worlds.”

”I remember that. Only fragments.”

”That’s enough.”

The God smiled.

”You found me when I was five.”

Rin’s eyes widened.

”Five?”

”Yes.”

”You were five when the World chose you?”

”No.”

He shook his head.

”The World chose me when I was eighteen.”

Rin frowned.

”Then how did you meet me when you were five?”

The God smiled.

”Because time is strange when you’re a God.”

Rin slowly understood.

”You traveled backward?”

”Not exactly.”

The God looked toward the moon.

”I was already connected to this world before I became its God. The World had chosen my soul long before I understood what that meant.”

Rin remained silent.

”So you met me when you were five.”

”Yes.”

”What happened?”

The God smiled.

”I was alone.”

His voice became softer.

”And you found me.”

The memory came without warning. Rin gasped. The balcony disappeared.

He was standing in a village not the village from this world not anywhere he recognized.

The sky was orange. The streets were filled with people.

And beside a fountain... a small boy was sitting alone.

Five years old. Dirty clothes. Bare feet.

His eyes were red from crying. Rin stood several steps away.

He looked different. Divine. Beautiful. A faint golden light surrounded him. He walked toward the child.

”Why are you sitting here?”

The boy looked up.

”Because nobody wants me.”

Rin crouched.

”That’s not true.”

”It is.”

”Who told you?”

”Everyone.”

Rin frowned.

”Everyone is wrong sometimes.”

The boy stared.

”Who are you?”

Rin smiled.

”My name is Rin.”

”Are you a god?”

Rin laughed.

”That’s what they call me.”

The boy looked impressed.

”Are you really a god?”

”Unfortunately.”

The child giggled. Rin smiled.

”What is your name?”

The boy hesitated.

”I don’t have one.”

Rin’s expression softened.

”Then we’ll find you one.”

The memory ended. Rin returned to the balcony. His eyes were wide.

The God was watching him.

”So you remember.”

”A little.”

”That was the first time.”

Rin stared at him.

”You were so small.”

The God smiled.

”You used to say that.”

”What happened after?”

”You took care of me.”

Rin’s heart tightened.

”For how long?”

”Six years.”

Rin froze.

”Until I was eleven. You stayed with me.”

”Why?”

The God looked away.

”Because you were lonely also.”

Rin stared.

”That’s all?”

The God smiled.

”Wasn’t that enough?”

Rin didn’t answer. The God continued.

”You taught me things.”

”Like what?”

”How to read.”

Rin laughed.

”I taught you?”

”You were terrible at it.”

”Hey.”

The God smiled.

”You would get frustrated whenever I made mistakes.”

”I probably wasn’t very patient.”

”You weren’t.”

Rin smiled.

”That sounds like me.”

”You also taught me how to fight.”

”Why?”

”Because you said nobody should be helpless.”

Rin’s smile faded.

”And when you were afraid...”

The God looked at him.

”You held my hand.”

Rin went quiet. The God continued.

”You would tell me that being afraid didn’t make me weak.”

Rin stared at him.

”Did I?”

”Yes.”

A long silence followed. Then the God whispered:

”You were my first family.”

Rin didn’t know how to respond. He had spent so long thinking of the God as an enemy.

Someone who had cursed him someone who had caused his suffering.

And now... he was sitting beside someone who had once been a lonely child Rin had protected.

Rin looked down.

”Then what happened?”

The God smiled sadly.

”You had to leave.”

”To return to my world?”

”Yes.”

”Did I promise to come back?”

The God nodded.

”You did.”

Rin swallowed.

”But I didn’t?”

”No.”

”Why?”

The God looked at him.

”Because when we met again...”

He paused.

”...you didn’t remember me.”

Rin’s heart stopped.

”What?”

”You were older.”

”How old?”

”Perhaps twenty.”

The God smiled sadly.

”You were with Eryon.”

Rin’s eyes widened.

”And your father...”

”You met them?”

”Yes.”

The God looked away.

”I ran toward you.”

His voice became quieter.

”I called your name.”

Rin waited.

”And you looked at me like I was a stranger.”

The memory changed. A vast city. White towers. Golden streets.

Rin walked beside Eryon. A man followed them. Rin’s father.

The three were talking. Then a young God appeared. He ran toward them.

”Rin!”

Rin stopped. He turned. The boy he once knew was standing there older now but the same eyes.

The same face. Rin’s former self looked confused.

”Do I know you?”

The God froze. His smile disappeared.

”You...”

Rin tilted his head.

”I’m sorry.”

The God stared at him.

”You don’t remember?...”

Rin shook his head.

”I don’t.”

The God looked at Eryon.

”You know him?”

Eryon stepped forward.

”Yes.”

”Then tell him.”

Eryon looked uncomfortable.

”I can’t.”

”Why?”

”Because his memories aren’t complete.”

The God looked back at Rin.

”Do you remember the village?”

Rin frowned.

”No.”

”The fountain?”

”No.”

”The boy?”

Rin shook his head.

”I’m sorry.”

The God stared at him. For several seconds, he didn’t speak.

Then he smiled. A broken smile.

”That’s okay.”

He turned away.

”You’re busy.”

Rin watched him leave. He didn’t understand. He couldn’t remember. He didn’t know why the stranger seemed so hurt. He didn’t know that he had once held that child’s hand. He didn’t know that he had promised to return.

The memory disappeared. Rin opened his eyes. The God was looking at him.

”You remember now.”

”Yes.”

Rin swallowed.

”Why didn’t you tell me?”

The God laughed softly.

”I tried.”

”When?”

”The first time you came here.”

Rin froze.

”The first timeline.”

”Yes.”

”You tried to tell me?”

”Yes.”

”What happened?”

”You were already dying.”

Rin’s face became pale. The God continued.

”I couldn’t reach you.”

”And the curse?”

”The curse had already begun.”

Rin stared.

”You didn’t create it after all...”

”No.”

”You didn’t take my soul because you wanted my power?”

”No.”

”You didn’t turn me into a human because you wanted to control me?”

”No.”

Rin’s voice became quiet.

”Then why?”

The God looked directly at him.

”Because I was trying to save you.”

Rin stopped breathing. The God continued.

”When I found your soul after your first death, the curse was already attached to it.”

Rin looked at his palm.

”The three-circle mark.”

”Yes.”

”I tried to remove it but I couldn’t.”

”So you brought my soul here.”

”Yes.”

”Why?”

”Because this world was the only place where I could hide you.”

Rin stared.

”But you said the curse existed beyond this world.”

”Exactly.”

The God looked toward the forest.

”The curse was hunting your soul.”

”So you brought me here.”

”Yes.”

”And created a human body.”

”I asked your mother to help.”

Rin’s expression changed.

”Because my soul couldn’t survive without one.”

”Correct.”

The God lowered his eyes.

”But I made a mistake.”

”What?”

”I believed I could keep the curse contained.”

Rin waited.

”I was wrong.”

”The curse began killing me.”

”Yes.”

”And you couldn’t stop it.”

”No.”

”Then why did you become angry?”

The God looked at him.

”Because every time you died...”

His voice cracked slightly.

”...I remembered the child who once held my hand.”

Rin stared. The God looked away.

”I watched you die over and over.”

Silence.

”I became desperate.”

Rin’s expression softened.

”I thought you hated me.”

”I never hated you.”

”You threatened me.”

”I was afraid.”

”You cursed me.”

”I activated the curse.”

Rin frowned.

”Why?”

”Because I thought if I controlled when it activated...”

He stopped.

”...I could control when you died.”

Rin stared. The God continued.

”It was wrong.”

”But you weren’t trying to hurt me.”

”No.”

”You were trying to control something you didn’t understand.”

”Yes.”

Rin looked toward the sky. For the first time, the truth became clear. The God wasn’t innocent. He had made terrible choices. But he wasn’t the monster Rin had believed him to be.

He had been a frightened child. Then a young God. Then someone who had watched the person who once protected him die again and again.

And somewhere along the way...fear had turned into control.

Rin sighed.

”I don’t forgive you.”

The God nodded.

”I know.”

”But...”

Rin looked at him.

”...I understand.”

The God looked surprised. Rin smiled faintly.

”That’s different.”

A tear slipped down the God’s cheek. He quickly wiped it away. Rin pretended not to notice. They sat in silence.

After a while, Rin asked:

”What about my father?”

The God became serious.

”He knew.”

”Knew what?”

”That your soul had been taken.”

”Then why didn’t he stop it?”

”He tried.”

Rin’s eyes widened.

”He came to this world?”

”Yes.”

”When?”

”After I had already hidden your soul.”

”What happened?”

”We fought.”

Rin stared.

”You and my father?”

”Yes.”

”Why?”

”Because he believed I had taken you.”

”Did you explain?”

”I tried.”

The God smiled faintly.

”He didn’t trust me.”

”Fair.”

”He nearly killed me.”

Rin blinked.

”Also fair.”

The God laughed.

”Yes.”

”What happened?”

”Your father eventually understood.”

”Then why didn’t he stay?”

”Because he couldn’t.”

”Why?”

The God looked toward the forest.

”He had to protect something.”

”Me?”

”No.”

Rin frowned.

”Then what?”

The God looked at him.

”The original world.”

Rin’s heart tightened.

”From what?”

The God hesitated.

”The same thing that created the curse.”

Rin went still.

”You know what it is.”

”I know part of it.”

”Tell me.”

”I can’t.”

Rin groaned.

”Why?”

”Because I don’t know enough.”

For once, that answer felt honest. Rin nodded.

”Fine.”

The God smiled faintly.

”You’ve changed.”

”How?”

”You used to argue for hours.”

”I still can.”

The God laughed.

”Yes.”

The sky was beginning to brighten. The God stood.

”I should go.”

Rin looked at him.

”Will I see you again?”

The God hesitated.

”If you want.”

Rin considered that.

”Maybe.”

The God smiled.

”That’s a very Rin answer.”

Rin stood too.

”One more question.”

”What?”

”Why did you never tell me about the boy?”

The God looked at him.

”Because I was afraid.”

”Of what?”

”That if you remembered...”

He paused.

”...you would only see me as someone you once protected.”

Rin frowned.

”Isn’t that what happened?”

”No.”

The God looked at him.

”You are the first person who ever made me feel like I wasn’t alone.”

Rin smiled softly.

”Then maybe...”

He extended his hand.

”...we can start again.”

The God stared at his hand. For several seconds, he didn’t move.

Then he took it. A simple handshake. Nothing more.

No divine contract, no promise. Just two people who had once been a lonely child and the god who had cared for him.

The God smiled.

”Thank you.”

Rin nodded.

”You’re welcome.”

The God disappeared into golden light. Rin remained on the balcony. He looked toward the sunrise.

One mystery had finally been solved. The God hadn’t stolen his soul to use him.

He had taken it because he was trying, desperately and imperfectly, to protect the child who had once saved him. But another question had appeared.

Rin touched the symbol on his palm.

The curse. The Keeper. The thing beyond the worlds. And his first death.

Those mysteries could wait. For now, Rin finally knew something he hadn’t known since the beginning.

Not every person who hurt him had wanted to hurt him.

Sometimes... people made terrible choices because they were terrified of losing someone they loved.

And perhaps understanding that was the first step toward breaking the cycle that had trapped them all.
