Chapter 217 – 152: The Second Witchcraft (2-in-1 Mega Chapter)

“`

“Yes!”

The middle-aged man nodded and said, “I am an official of the Imperial Candidacy Examination Committee stationed in Mingster Province, Lord Rein, please get into the carriage so we can discuss in detail.”

Hmm?

An official of the Candidacy Examination Committee?

No wonder they dared to use the image of a giant dragon as the symbol on their carriage.

After all, the other party is an organization directly under the Senate, the highest authority in the Empire.

“Alright,” Rein nodded hastily, not daring to be negligent, and followed the middle-aged man into the carriage.

As soon as he entered, he found the carriage’s interior was unusually spacious; there were two rows of seats facing each other with a moderately sized, rectangular coffee table in between.

A middle-aged man with a goatee, dressed in black hunting clothes with gold trim, was sitting calmly on the left side, watching Rein enter the carriage.

“Lord Rein, this is Special Envoy Javier Stewart,” said the man in the tailcoat following the introductions.

“Envoy Stewart, greetings,” Rein inclined his head slightly in a gesture of respect.

Envoy?

Rein couldn’t estimate how high-ranking this position was.

But obviously, the other was a high-ranking noble.

“Lord Rein is quite youthful and talented, please have a look at this information,” Javier examined Rein and couldn’t help but smile; as he spoke, he pushed a file resembling a document bag across the coffee table toward Rein.

“Of course, my lord,” Rein replied after receiving it, and then began to read carefully.

Minutes later, after finishing the documents, Rein’s face showed reflection.

At that moment, seeing that Rein had finished reading, the Special Envoy named Javier spoke, “Due to the need for confidentiality, we cannot give you these documents; if you haven’t memorized them, you are welcome to read them again now.”

“There’s no need, I think I’ve committed it to memory. Thank you, Envoy Stewart.”

“By the way, please take good care of this credential badge for participating in the candidacy examination,” Javier pointed toward the coffee table again.

Rein nodded. He picked up the amethyst-colored badge from the coffee table, which was slightly larger than a Gold Coin. The badge bore the image of a Knight holding a sword and shield atop a horse, looking imposing and extraordinary.

“Then, Lord Rein, please make sure not to be late. Tardiness will result in disqualification from the candidacy examination.”

“I apologize for the intrusion and wish you success in your examination,” Javier said with a smile.

Rein understood that this was an indication that their time for discussion was over.

Presumably, the Envoy still had other candidates to notify for the examination.

“Thank you, Envoy Stewart.” After picking up the credential badge, Rein stood up and left the carriage.

Shortly after, the carriage slowly started moving.

Inside the carriage, the man in the tailcoat asked curiously, “Envoy Stewart, why did you make a special trip to see this Rein?”

“The individual is merely of common birth. Though it is commendable that he has reached Transcendent at such an age, it doesn’t seem that rare in the whole of Mingster Province.”

Javier chuckled and said, “Hehe, the latest news is that this young Lord Rein, a while ago, defeated several Cultist monks by himself, thwarting one of their operations.”

“Eh? That is quite rare!” The man in the tailcoat showed a hint of surprise.

“Doesn’t that mean this young Lord Rein might already possess strength comparable to that of a seasoned Knight?”

“Not just that. Among those Cultist monks, there was a Black Flame Apostle, which has also been confirmed by Meister County’s Monsoon and the Church of the Ocean Goddess,” Javier continued.

“What?” The man’s eyes suddenly widened, truly taken aback this time.

For Rein to defeat an Angel Envoy of that caliber at his age, even throughout Mingster Province, was exceptionally rare.

To narrow the scope further, no individuals of common birth around fifteen years of age had achieved this… It seemed there were none!

At least, in his memory, there were none.

“It seems that this Lord Rein could very well be a potential ‘Sword Bearer,ʼ” the man in the tailcoat exhaled thoughtfully.

He now understood the purpose behind the Special Envoy’s particular visit.

Indeed.

“Yes, but there is some uncertainty in becoming a ‘Sword Bearer’; we shall wait and see,” he replied.

Soon, the luxurious carriage disappeared at the end of the road…

After watching the carriage depart, Rein began to consider his preparations; the contents of the document bag were etched deeply in his mind.

Firstly, the time and place for the candidacy examination: half a month from now, in Rosby City of Mingster Province, the County Town of Rosby.

It was the first time Rein had heard of it.

Thankfully, based on the map provided in the documents, Rosby City was right next to Meister County; it would take approximately five days by horse, which wasn’t too far.

Moreover, the map also showed that this was a large city right on the coastline, surrounded by many islands near Rosby City.

It appeared the examination might involve the islands, perhaps even directly related to the ocean.

Eradicate pirates that had settled on certain islands?

Or was it friction on the border with the emerging Eagle Federation?

Rein shook his head lightly; none of this was certain, and he would only know after arriving in Rosby City.

Additionally, he did not yet know whether he would be assigned an individual task or a team task for the examination, so Rein had to prepare earnestly.

However, Rein was quite confident in his abilities.
