Chapter 204 – 148: Curse, Illusion Technique, and Witchcraft (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_4

After waiting a few seconds, Rein quickly got up and walked to the window. Through it, he saw an almost transparent female specter drifting towards the pitch-dark alley across the way.

Rein pondered for a moment but decided not to immediately follow.

He felt that the enemy he encountered this time was no ordinary foe, as they were controlling specters to attack him.

However, for some unknown reason, the female specter hadn’t attacked him in the end.

Clearly, with such a mysterious enemy lurking, it was difficult for anyone to sleep in peace!

It was best to do some reconnaissance first.

“Beast Eye!”

Rein remembered this new core skill of the Beast Tamer and cast it at once.

As the core skill ‘Beast Eye’ was activated, Rein’s spirit seemed to possess the sleeping greyhound ‘Cookie’ in the storage room next door.

‘Cookie’ suddenly stood up, dashed down the stairs, out of the door, and ran towards the dark alley.

‘Cookie’ quickly arrived at the mouth of the alley and human-like, poked its head out, glancing inside.

Thanks to canine dark vision, Rein could clearly see through ‘Cookie’s’ eyes a slightly stooped figure in a hooded black robe in the alley.

The female specter that had just floated into his room seemed to be conversing with the hooded person.

However, ‘Cookie’s’ gaze had dwelt on the hooded figure for only a few seconds before the person immediately turned their head.

This sent a chill through Rein’s heart, and he promptly made ‘Cookie’ whimper and run away.

The old man glanced over and, seeing only a stray dog, paid it no further attention.

From his observation, Rein discovered that the enemy’s perception was very sharp— it was very likely that their spiritual power exceeded his own!

“Is the enemy a level three Wizard Apprentice, or perhaps a stronger profession?” Rein speculated.

Facing such a formidable enemy, Rein’s brain whirred into action.

“With such a cunning foe, I can’t rest until they are dealt with!”

“The battle seems inevitable…”

“At this moment, they probably haven’t realized I’ve found them.”

“If I were to launch a surprise attack now…”

Rein immediately canceled ‘Beast Eye,’ quickly donned his chromed armor, picked up his Warhammer and greatsword, and dashed outside.

Upon nearing the alley, Rein slowed his steps.

For safety’s sake, it was naturally best to enhance his abilities further.

The next second, Rein allocated another Skill Point in the Transcendent panel of the Knight, increasing his limit break from 51% to 61%.

This advancement took Rein from the level of an experienced Knight straight into the Peak Knight level.

Consequently, both transcendent attributes ‘Huge Strength’ and ‘Iron Skin’ advanced to level 3!

[Transcendent Attribute: Huge Strength lv3 (Active)]

Effect of Huge Strength lv3: Strength multiplies.

(Note: The degree to which the transcendent attribute Huge Strength enhances the host’s strength is positively correlated with the limit break value, the higher the limit break, the greater the strength enhancement.)

[Transcendent Attribute: Iron Skin lv3 (Passive)]

Effect of Iron Skin lv3: The body automatically absorbs free metallic elements, forming a metallic film on the skin’s surface.

Note: The defensive power of the metallic film is positively correlated with the Spirit and limit break value, the stronger the Spirit and the higher the limit break, the stronger the metal absorption ability and defensive power.)

‘Multiplier of strength,’ ‘metallic film,’ huh!

This boosted Rein’s confidence!

As Rein appeared at the entrance of the alley, the hooded old man turned around. Underneath the hood, a pair of profound eyes looked at Rein with mild surprise and said,

“Huh? How did you find me?”

At that moment, Adams was quite perplexed as to how Rein had managed to find this alley where he was hiding.

Yet, from his tone, there was no sign of panic or concern.

It seemed he had absolute confidence in his own abilities!

Rein smiled and did not answer Adams’s question.

Instead, he took a signal flare from his bosom and in an instant, with a ‘whoosh,’ the signal flare shot into the sky and promptly exploded.

That’s right!

It was the Night Watchman’s call for reinforcements signal flare.

As the deputy security officer of Flashgold Town, Rein naturally carried a signal flare with him at all times.

Facing an enemy with such wily methods, Rein felt that fighting alone might not be the best idea. Besides, they were very close to the administration hall; Hamilton should arrive in less than a minute! Discover more stories at Novgo

“Heh, stupid fool!” Faced with Rein’s silent but decisive action to fire the signal flare to call for backup, Adams couldn’t help but rage, feeling somewhat played!

“The goddess of luck allowed you to luckily escape disaster, but you’re actually seeking your own death!” As he spoke, he quickly took out a scroll from his bosom and tore it open.

Rein’s pupils instantly shrank!

“Break the limit!”

As Rein, holding the Warhammer, was about to sidestep to avoid the scroll attack from the other party!

Suddenly, Rein felt a bout of dizziness, and in an instant, the surrounding scenery drastically changed.

The walls of the narrow alley became as soft as noodles, the old man in the black robe standing opposite Rein was stretched and flattened.

This feeling was terrible, like someone prone to seasickness alone in a dinghy amidst tumultuous waves at sea!

Rein, enduring the discomfort, forcibly shook his head…

At that moment, Rein saw the surroundings clearly again.

However… the figure of his little sister Bo He suddenly appeared in front of him, she waved at him and said with a smile, “Brother, come play with me?”

Bo He’s sweet childlike voice made Rein feel an irresistible surge of indulgence.

It seemed as though refusing to join her for a while would be the biggest mistake in the world.

But the next second, Rein immediately realized that he shouldn’t be in this alley right now, engaged in battle with a mysterious old man in a black robe, how could…

Suddenly, an alarm bell went off in Rein’s mind!

Almost at the same time, Rein felt a sharp pain in his chest, followed by being blown away!

When Rein got back up, the scene had returned to the dark alleyway, and the mysterious old man in the black robe was still standing opposite him.

At this moment, he felt a burning pain all over his body. Looking down, he saw a large hole corroded in the chromium iron chestplate at his chest. Thankfully, the silver-gray metallic film on the surface of his body had blocked further damage.

But it seemed the metallic film’s energy was nearly depleted, and its luster was quickly fading.

Damn!

This is so powerful!

Rein cursed to himself internally.

If he hadn’t just stepped into the realm of a Peak Knight and had his Transcendent trait ‘Iron Skin’ upgraded to level 3, he guessed the opponent’s bizarre attack would have caused severe injury, or even taken him out in one blow!

“Eh? He’s not dead?”

Seeing that Rein’s sturdy knight’s chestplate was blown open, Adams, who had thought Rein was surely doomed, suddenly widened his eyes and his mouth fell agape!

At this moment, he was even more shocked than Rein!

Knowing that a combination of the Illusion Technique scroll and his own witchcraft ‘Lesser Shadow Arrow’ should take down a Peak Knight without a second word, he couldn’t believe this youngster had survived!

Not only did he survive, but he was also able to stand up!

That’s unbelievable!

Could it be the opponent’s knight chestplate has strong negative energy defensive power?

But it didn’t seem like it!

The opponent’s knight chestplate was clearly corroded with a big hole by his own ‘Lesser Shadow Arrow.’

A perplexed Adams furrowed his brows in thought.

Suddenly, a series of rapid footsteps sounded at the mouth of the alley. Hamilton, having heard the commotion, led more than a dozen Night Watchmen as they rushed over.

“You… you’re Adams!!!” The moment Hamilton laid eyes on the old man, his pupils sharply constricted, and his complexion changed as he spoke.
