Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 842: Chapter 842: The Son Is Bad, but the Father Is Even Worse

”Who are these people?” Mo Gaoyi didn’t answer but glanced at Han Yan and the others, clearly somewhat apprehensive.

Ji Gaoxian was about to introduce them when he saw Han Yan subtly signal to him, suddenly recalling the recent discord between Han Yan and Mo Yanhong, which had resulted in Han Yan severely trapping the latter. Introducing them now would inevitably be awkward.

”They are all family. Family Head Mo, feel free to speak openly about your concerns.” Ji Gaoxian vaguely replied. These individuals now could be considered part of the Nanyan Commerce, naturally making them family with Han Yan. God-man’s words and methods were indeed profound and inscrutable.

Upon hearing Ji Gaoxian’s words and seeing that Han Yan and the others were quite young, Mo Gaoyi assumed they were the disciples or junior relatives of several masters accompanying them to gain experience, so he didn’t pay much mind.

”It’s like this, our Mo Family has encountered a difficult situation and we wish to ask for your assistance. I happened to hear that you all were together, so I specifically came here.” Mo Gaoyi said.

Initially, he planned to request Shen Moce’s intervention, but upon arriving, he found out Shen Moce was not there. He later thought of Pu Tiandi, but again drew a blank. Then he sought out Weng Yixiao, only to find another dead end. Eventually, he learned that all three had come to Ji Gaoxian’s place, prompting him to rush over immediately.

”Family Head Mo is too polite, feel free to instruct us on whatever you need,” Ji Gaoxian and the others responded cordially.

Given their prestige, they didn’t have to be servile to Mo Gaoyi, but there was no need to offend him either.

”Here’s the situation: this is my cousin, and he has a grandson who went missing a year ago. Our Mo Family has been searching all over to no avail, so we hope you can divine his whereabouts, allowing for a family reunion.” Mo Gaoyi explained.

Mo Gaoyi gestured to an elder with a weary face behind him and spoke to Ji Gaoxian and the others.

After a year went by, did they just remember to seek help? Ji Gaoxian and his companions were initially taken aback by his words, then, as if recalling something, they looked questioningly at the elder with the exhausted appearance.

”I am Mo Gaoli, I wonder if you still remember me,” the elder smiled wryly and bowed to the group.

”So it’s Brother Gao Li; after so many years, your spirit remains untouched, truly comforting to see.” Ji Gaoxian and the others realized, speaking warmly to the elder, although a strange light flickered in their eyes.

”I am honored that you still remember me, so I would humbly ask for your benevolent assistance to reunite our family,” Mo Gaoli implored, a hint of sorrow veiled within his gaze.

Upon hearing Mo Gaoli’s words, Ji Gaoxian, Shen Moce, and the others exchanged glances in silence, evidently contemplating something.

From their expressions, Han Yan perceived something unusual; curious, he used Gathering Qi Transmission to ask Ji Gaoxian, ”Master Ji, could there be some deeper truth?”

”Whether there’s a hidden context, we dare not assert, but this Mo Gaoli is indeed Mo Gaoyi’s own brother, with remarkable talent. As a youth, he was hailed as a prodigy.

Years ago, Mo Gaoyi and Mo Gaoli competed for the position of Family Head. Their abilities in managing the family and cultivation weren’t much different...not completely without disparity; Mo Gaoli was slightly stronger. However, as the younger brother, his status was a little lacking, and thus even the family elders couldn’t decide. After discussions, it was decided that the position would not be passed to the younger generation, hence it went to Mo Gaoyi.

It could be said that although they vied for the Family Head position, the contest was amicable; their intelligence and courage never truly threatened the family’s interests, each trying to prove their worth to advance the family. Consequently, the Mo Family’s influence grew even stronger during this time.

A noble family having such results from an internal power struggle is quite rare. Their competition even became a celebrated tale.

However, nobody expected that shortly after Mo Gaoyi became the Family Head, he found an excuse to use forceful means to expel Mo Gaoli from the Sect Family, banishing him to the distant Barbaric Land, ordering that unless summoned by the Sect, his descendants would never return to the Capital.

Only then did everyone realize Mo Gaoyi’s previous demeanor was all an act. He knew he was not as capable as his brother and feared losing in an open contest, so he feigned the facade of a benevolent elder brother, making Mo Gaoli constantly yield. Yet once his goal was achieved, he immediately revealed his true intentions, forcing Mo Gaoli into a perilous situation.

The fact that Mo Gaoli returned to the Sect is news to us, but if we guessed correctly, his grandson is bound to be exceptionally talented, which is why they were summoned back. After all, the Mo Family’s Sect is not controlled solely by Mo Gaoyi; with the existence of various elders and tributes, Mo Gaoyi cannot prevent this.

Whether Mo Gaoli’s grandson’s disappearance involves Mo Gaoyi, we dare not draw conclusions, but being absent for over a year before seeking us out, Mo Gaoyi evidently does not want him returning. Reaching out now is most likely due to desperation.

Although we have some reputation, compared to the Mo Family, it isn’t much. Without necessity, we truly prefer not to entangle ourselves in this muddy water,” Ji Gaoxian sighed via Gathering Qi Transmission to Han Yan.

It was only then Han Yan realized the Mo Family’s complicated history and why Mo Yanhong seemed vile throughout. It turns out his father wasn’t a decent person either. With this realization, Han Yan harbored no goodwill towards Mo Gaoyi but felt some sympathy for Mo Gaoli.

”Master Ji, Master Shen, Master Pu, Master Weng, I have only one son and this single grandson. I implore for the sake of past relations to lend me your support,” Mo Gaoli pleaded, his voice choking a little.

Over the years, their family had eked out a living in that Barbaric Land, having long lost their old ambitions, only yearning for their descendants to live safely and peacefully.

Who could have guessed that this only grandson would be so exceptionally talented, allowing for their return to the Sect Family. Yet even so, he held no desire to oppose Ji Gaoyi, given the lengthy absence and lacking proper cultivation resources, his strength had long fallen behind Ji Gaoyi’s. Moreover, the subsequent Sect family members had already forgotten his existence; even if he wished to contest, what could he use?

Returning to the Sect and seeing his grandson safe and secure was his utmost wish. Yet, contrary to his hopes, shortly after their return, his grandson inexplicably vanished.

Following the advice of the elders, a city-wide notice had initially been planned to find his grandson. However, Mo Gaoyi claimed his grandson’s talent was too extraordinary, impacting the Mo Family’s future; publicly announcing it might attract attention from other noble families, putting his life in jeopardy.

Considering this reasoning, the elders agreed to conceal the information, issuing an order to their disciples to search everywhere. To prove his sincerity, Mo Gaoyi even sent his treasured son on the search.
