Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Getting Bolder

But at the last moment, he suddenly gripped her arms, his expression unreadable. ”Let’s wait for our wedding night. I’ll have you then.”

Nora Ainsworth’s true anxiety finally subsided. She looked at Leon Lynch, unsure what to say.

He got up. ”I’ll wait for you outside. Get dressed.”

The door slid shut, and Nora Ainsworth began to dress, putting on one piece of clothing after another.

Just as she finished dressing, her phone rang.

She had a sinking feeling it was Quentin Grant.

She took out her phone and checked. Sure enough, it was him.

She answered, pressing the phone to her ear.

”Have you forgotten what I told you?” His voice was as captivating as ever.

”I haven’t forgotten. I’ve never forgotten. Or maybe I just don’t dare to forget. But you can coerce me with threats and promises, and my mom is threatening me all the same. So you tell me, what am I supposed to do?” A hint of resentment tinged her voice.

”You know what you have to do.”

”I don’t understand! When are you going to stop controlling my life?!” Nora Ainsworth’s anger flared. ”It’s been days, and you haven’t contacted me. If I’m guessing correctly, you’re obviously tired of me. So what? Now that you’re tired of me, I’m not allowed to get married?”

Quentin Grant fell silent. He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the starry sky. A sudden, inexplicable irritation churned within him.

After a long silence, he spoke. ”Are you jealous?”

Nora Ainsworth was stunned. She gripped her phone, fighting the urge to smash it.

”Grant, you’re getting married in a few days, and I’m getting married too. Let’s end this here.” With that, Nora Ainsworth hung up, pulled the SIM card from her phone, and snapped it in two. A flicker of resolve showed in her eyes.

The dial tone buzzed in Quentin Grant’s ear. He glanced at his phone and muttered to himself, ’She’s gotten bold. Daring to hang up on me!’

He called back, but the line was dead—her phone was off. Quentin Grant stood frozen, a sudden thought striking him: ’The woman who has always been at my beck and call is starting to throw a fit.’

’She wants to end things? Not even marriage will be her escape!’

His eyes turned cold, and a dark, chilling smile curled his lips.

Nora Ainsworth’s heart pounded uncontrollably all the way back from the hotel.

She knew exactly what kind of man Quentin Grant was.

She just didn’t know if he would ever let her go.

There was no way to know.

That night, she tossed and turned for hours, only drifting into a fitful sleep in the early morning. She was jolted awake by the housekeeper’s frantic calls.

”Miss, something terrible has happened!”

Nora Ainsworth shot upright in bed, suddenly wide awake.

”What happened?”

”The news is everywhere... all the outlets are running stories saying you’re being kept by some rich man. The media has our front gate completely surrounded; you can’t even get out.” The housekeeper’s voice was laced with worry.

Nora Ainsworth sat frozen, her body rigid. After a long moment, the housekeeper called out from behind the door, ”Miss? Are you okay?”

Nora Ainsworth’s voice was eerily calm. ”And my mother... is she angry?”

The housekeeper sighed. ”The missus... she’s just sitting in the living room, not saying a word. The master—he... he wants you to come downstairs right away and explain yourself.”

Nora Ainsworth didn’t have to guess who had leaked the story. ’He’s forcing me to submit.’

It took every ounce of her strength to make her way downstairs.

The moment Mr. Ainsworth saw her, he shot up from the sofa, his face livid.

”For news like this to break right before the wedding... How can the Lynch family or our own family show our faces now!” Mr. Ainsworth roared. ”I’m asking you, is it true?”
