Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Ruining the Mood

Ethan Ellsworth said nonchalantly, ”As long as you understand. You’ve always been a good cook. That’s why I brought you. Go show off your skills in the kitchen and let our Young Master Grant have a taste.”

Chloe Marshall got up awkwardly, her steps stiff as she walked to the kitchen. Nora Ainsworth stood up as well. ”I’ll go help.”

Quentin Grant didn’t object. The place had everything except a cook. The reason was obvious enough: Quentin Grant was wary of hired cooks and usually made his own meals when he came home.

Ethan Ellsworth’s playful smile vanished, and he looked at him seriously. ”If I’m not mistaken, she’s your fiancée’s stepsister. Quentin, by doing this, aren’t you afraid—”

Quentin Grant tilted his head back slightly. ”So you figured it out. What have I ever been afraid of? I have no intention of marrying this so-called fiancée of mine, so what’s the harm in having a little fun with her?”

Ethan Ellsworth was silent for a long moment. Finally, he uttered a few words, ”That’s for the best, then.”

”What’s your name?” Chloe Marshall asked quietly.

Nora Ainsworth smiled at her. ”I’m Nora.”

”I’m Chloe Marshall, Boss Ellsworth’s junior assistant. I handle miscellaneous tasks.” Her smile was exceptionally bright, but she nervously wiped her hands on her apron, a bashful look on her face.

Nora Ainsworth extended her hand. ”It’s nice to meet you, Chloe.”

”Nice to meet you too, Nora.”

The two exchanged a smile and went back to preparing the vegetables.

Chloe Marshall really did know how to cook. The dishes she made looked incredibly appetizing. Watching from the side, Nora Ainsworth thought, ’She must have cooked countless times before.’

”Chloe, who taught you how to cook?”

Chloe Marshall turned and gave a shy smile. ”I taught myself when I was little. No one taught me. My mom died young, and my dad works on construction sites all day to pay for my younger brother’s schooling, so I stay home and do the laundry and cooking for them.”

Looking at Chloe’s simple, honest smile, Nora Ainsworth suddenly felt that only someone who fought hard with their own two hands could shine with such beautiful brilliance.

「Forty minutes later.」

The dining table was laden with six dishes and a soup.

It was clearly more than the four of them could eat.

Chloe Marshall stood there, not daring to sit down.

Ethan Ellsworth pointed to a chair. ”Sit here, you moron.”

Chloe Marshall didn’t get angry. ”Yes, Boss Ellsworth.”

Nora Ainsworth found the ”moron” from Ethan Ellsworth’s lips to be jarring, but she was an outsider, so it wasn’t her place to say anything.

Quentin Grant, however, said half-jokingly, ”The food’s not bad. If Young Master Ellsworth ever fires you, you can come cook for me.”

Startled, Chloe Marshall glanced at Ethan Ellsworth, then said, ”I haven’t done anything wrong. Boss Ellsworth won’t fire me.”

A smirk played on Ethan Ellsworth’s lips. ”Don’t worry, moron. I won’t be firing you anytime soon.”

The rest of the dinner passed without incident. When they were finished, Quentin Grant gave Nora Ainsworth a meaningful look. She took the hint, and after washing the dishes with Chloe Marshall, she went upstairs.

Her footsteps made a dull sound on the wooden floorboards. Nora Ainsworth pushed open the ajar bedroom door and saw him standing by the window, one hand in his pocket and the other holding a teacup. He cut a stylish figure.

She closed the door and deliberately bolted it.

She walked up to him and, for the first time, dared to wrap her arms around his waist from behind. Quentin Grant didn’t move, but his voice was surprisingly cheerful.

”Nora Ainsworth, are you trying to butter me up because you’re afraid I’ll call you a moron too?”

Nora Ainsworth immediately let go and huffed, ”Way to ruin the mood. If you did call me that, I wouldn’t even fight it. Because if I’m a moron, then you’re a moron’s man. How high could your IQ possibly be?”
