Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Her Gaze Unexpectedly Met His

Mrs. Grant smiled back and looked at Mr. Ainsworth. ”Your two daughters have certainly married into good families. Am I patting myself on the back a little too much?”

Mr. Ainsworth waved his hand dismissively. ”Not at all. It’s Sharon’s good fortune to be able to marry Quentin.”

Nora Ainsworth sat on a nearby sofa, feeling a little puzzled. ’Quentin Grant said himself that he wouldn’t marry Sharon Ainsworth, so what are he and his parents doing here today?’

At that thought, she lifted her head to look at the one who started it all, only to have her gaze meet his.

She immediately turned her head away. Catching his eye made Nora Ainsworth feel a pang of guilt.

’Because, if Mr. Ainsworth ever found out about her and Quentin Grant—’

’The consequences would be unimaginably severe.’

’Not only would her engagement to Leon Lynch be called off, but Quentin Grant’s marriage to Sharon Ainsworth would be over too. The Ainsworth Group Company would be hit by the scandal, her mother might be thrown out, and then she herself, embroiled in scandal, would be expelled from university—’

Nora Ainsworth didn’t dare to think any further. ’She didn’t care what happened to her, but could her mother withstand it?’

’Her mother had finally become the wife of a wealthy man. If something like this happened, it would make Nora a sinner in her mother’s eyes.’

That was why Quentin Grant’s threats and temptations were aimed right at her Achilles’ heel.

*

An enigmatic smile played on Quentin Grant’s lips, and no one could decipher its meaning.

When it came to his plans, people could usually only guess the beginning, but never the end.

The longer Nora Ainsworth sat there, the more her panic grew.

She finally managed to last until the housekeeper announced that dinner was ready.

As everyone took their seats, she finally let out a long breath of relief.

But to her great misfortune, she was again seated across from Quentin Grant, with Leon Lynch beside her.

Nora Ainsworth kept her legs curled up, not daring to stretch them out. ’He’d hooked my leg with his under the table twice before. I can’t let him do it again.’

During dinner, she kept her head down and ate, not looking up or speaking, just rushing through her meal.

Leon Lynch occasionally placed food on her plate, his eyes full of affection, a sight that greatly pleased Mr. and Mrs. Ainsworth.

Compared to Leon Lynch’s attentiveness, Quentin Grant was much more composed.

He ate in an unhurried manner, his gaze fixed on the person opposite him, paying no mind to Sharon at all.

No one knew just how tormented she felt, sitting there in front of Leon Lynch and Quentin Grant.

’It felt as if she’d committed some terrible sin. And hadn’t she? What she’d done was no different from a terrible sin.’

’She regretted it. She shouldn’t have mistakenly entered Quentin Grant’s room that night, shouldn’t have tried to get revenge on him, only to end up successfully trapped by him.’

’But what’s done is done.’

’She didn’t know how to make amends. All she could do was be completely under the thumb of that devil, Quentin Grant. She’d lost her freedom for him and didn’t even get a dime for it—she was basically his slave for free!’

’What kind of tyrant’s clause is this?!’

With these thoughts racing through her head, Nora Ainsworth quickly shoveled the last of her rice, set down her chopsticks with a look of utter misery, and was about to get up and leave.

But unexpectedly, Quentin Grant stood up instead. ”I’m going to step out for some fresh air.”

Nora Ainsworth could only sit there rigidly. ’If he gets up and I get up too, it’ll just make me look even more guilty!’

Not long after Quentin Grant left the living room, before Nora Ainsworth could stand up, Leon Lynch forcibly took her hand. ”Mr. and Mrs. Ainsworth, Nora and I are going to take a walk outside.”

Mr. Ainsworth smiled casually. ”Go on, go on. Young people should communicate more.”

Regardless of whether Nora Ainsworth wanted to or not, she was led out of the living room by Leon Lynch.

The courtyard was deserted and cold. The winter air was truly unforgiving.

Nora Ainsworth pulled her hand free and sniffled. ”What are you doing here tonight?”
