Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 197: Chapter 197: The Hapless Eldest Daughter 11

”Yeah, back then, how old was Yuan Chun? What if she hurt herself while cooking.”

”That little kid had to take care of everyone’s eating, drinking, toileting, sleeping, and dressing needs. Tsk tsk tsk... I’ve never seen a mother as heartless as Ma Xiaolan.”

Mrs. Zhong called Ma Xiaolan.

After crying for a while, Yuan Chun wiped her tears and laughed, ”Mom, it’s great that you’re not sick. Even though you fooled me, I’m happy you’re not ill. In the future, all the house chores will be up to you alone.”

”I’ve been doing this for so many years, my body is already worn out. Look at me, I’m so frail that a gust of wind could topple me over. I really can’t do it anymore.”

”Mom, I’ve worked like an ox and horse for this family for nine years. From now on, I should take good care of my health. After all, I’m already seventeen and won’t stay home much longer. I want to restore my health a bit before getting married. Mom, you’re my biological mom, you will surely agree, right?”

In front of everyone, Mrs. Zhong couldn’t bring herself to say no.

Afterward, Aunt Zhao advised Yuan Chun to also get a full health check-up.

Yuan Chun hesitated a bit, ”My mom just did a check-up for ten yuan. If I do it too, there goes half of my dad’s monthly salary.”

”Oh dear, is money more important, or is a person more important?”

”Exactly, Ms. Ma, persuade Yuan Chun too. No amount of money is as important as a person.”

Under everyone’s pressure, Mrs. Zhong said stiffly, ”Yuan Chun, go have a full check-up too.”

Originally, she thought her daughter was sensible and knew how to save money, and wouldn’t agree. But to her surprise, Yuan Chun looked delighted, ”Thank you, mom. I knew you cared about me too. Mom, you’re great.”

Then, after a whole set of examinations, even the doctor looked grim, ”The child has severe malnutrition, along with serious rheumatism, stomach issues, muscle strain, lumbar strain... This body is comparable to a seventy-year-old. How did your family raise a child like this?”

Mrs. Zhong looked bewildered.

The eldest daughter has so many ailments?

How did she not know?

Oh, right, the eldest daughter seemed to have mentioned to her that she often had back pain, leg pain, stomach pain, but she didn’t take it seriously. Everyone’s stomach hurts when they’re hungry.

After hard work, everyone’s legs and back ache.

She never thought that her eldest daughter had rheumatism and lumbar strain...

A group of aunts and ladies, upon seeing Yuan Chun’s test results, all angrily turned towards Mrs. Zhong.

”Yuan Chun’s mom, your household has quite a bit of food, right? At least you don’t have any malnutrition yourself, but your Yuan Chun is severely malnourished? Did all your food go to you alone?”

”How can it be just her? None of the other four in the Zhong Family are thin, each one looks vibrant.”

”That Yuan Fen girl, even chubby, how much good stuff must she have eaten to grow all that flesh.”

”Oh my, Yuan Chun’s mom, I’ve seen favoritism before, but not quite like yours, treating the eldest daughter like a work horse and doting on the youngest like a treasure. Tsk tsk tsk, I truly feel for Yuan Chun, this girl, to have such oblivious parents, it’s really pitiful.”

”Wow, no rural child has suffered as much as Yuan Chun.”

”Yuan Chun is a middle school student, with a monthly ration of thirty jin, yet look how thin she is. Her rations must have been withheld by Zhong Family and given to the other three kids.”

”So cruel, I’ve never seen such a cruel mother.”

”Could it be that Yuan Chun isn’t Ma Xiaolan’s biological daughter? Otherwise, how could there be such a big difference when born from the same mother?”
