Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 193: Chapter 193: The Hapless Eldest Sister 7

Yuan Chun was wailing loudly, her heart breaking, attracting many onlookers.

This area was inhabited by the families of steel factory workers. With the factory’s end-of-work bell just rung, employees were gradually leaving the premises.

”The Zhong couple is so biased, look at how they’ve driven Yuan Chun into a corner. They’re going to drive the child to despair.”

”Old Zhong makes over forty yuan a month. The Zhong family still assembles matchboxes. With the two of them raising four kids, if they tighten their belts, it’s enough. There’s no need for a child to pick up trash to earn money for groceries.”

”Exactly, having a child work from dawn to dusk to support the family is indeed not right.”

”Isn’t it just because Yuan Chun has a soft nature and is easy to bully? Otherwise, why don’t they have their younger daughter pick up trash?”

”Oh dear, don’t mention that Yuan Fen girl. That child has already been spoiled by the Zhong family, so lazy she wouldn’t even pick up a bottle of oil.”

”How can that be? Last time when the Zhong family came to deliver matchboxes, they told me their younger daughter is diligent and does half of the household chores, even helps with assembling matchboxes.”

Grandma Cheng sneered, ”I’ve been neighbors with the Zhong family for over ten years. I’ve only ever seen Yuan Chun working, never Yuan Fen. That Yuan Fen gets her older sister to wash her underwear, and she’s been spoiled by the Zhong family like a pampered miss.”

”The Zhong couple is foolish too, not treating their hardworking and kind-hearted elder daughter as a person, instead treasuring their lazy and greedy younger daughter.

”Tsk, tsk, tsk, I didn’t expect the Zhong family to even lie.”

In everyone’s eyes, Old Bai Lian had become not only a wicked mother who exploited and manipulated her daughter but also a compulsive liar.

Mr. Zhong, after finishing work, lingered in the factory restroom for a while, returning home a bit late.

Walking on the road, he noticed people gesturing at him, their looks different.

Those disdainful, scornful eyes made him frown.

It wasn’t until Grandma Cheng pulled him aside and told him, ”Old Zhong, Yuan Chun is at my place. Today the mantou she traded for was stolen, and Yuan Chun’s mom kicked her out, not letting her eat.”

Grandma Cheng sighed and accused him, ”Old Zhong, it’s not that I’m meddling, but you and your wife are too biased. Yuan Chun is so sensible, how can you bully her like this?”

”Look at her, she’s so thin she’s out of shape. Aren’t you concerned?”

”And what is she wearing? That’s your wife’s old clothes, right? Your wife, as a mother, buys new clothes every year and lets her eldest daughter wear her old ones. What’s she thinking?”

”Yuan Chun is already seventeen, she’s a young lady now. You should pay attention to how she dresses. Even if you wear the old ones, you should buy new clothes for the child.”

”And she’s almost of age to be betrothed. Don’t make her pick up trash anymore. Letting a child support the family, aren’t you ashamed as a father?”

...

Being pointed at and scolded.

Mr. Zhong was initially bewildered, then ashamed, wanting to hide.

Only when the old lady’s son and daughter-in-law returned home did she say, ”Old Zhong, take Yuan Chun back home, don’t break the child’s heart.”

Mr. Zhong awkwardly agreed.

Back home, his face changed, looking gloomily at Yuan Chun, ”Yuan Chun, tell me, what’s going on?”

Yuan Chun looked aggrieved, ”Dad, didn’t Grandma Cheng say it already? Just because I lost the mantou, Mom didn’t make food for me. My younger siblings also blame me. Dad, is it a mistake that I work hard picking up trash from dawn to support you and Mom?”
