Ruling Martial World by Infinite Insect Swarms

Chapter 63: Chapter 62: Ambushing the Blood Demon Sect! The Poison Burst Insect’s First Battle

RUMBLE!

The Profound Flood Dragon’s massive body slithered through the jungle. As it passed the Qin Family Manor, Qin Yu took a glance but didn’t stop, continuing toward Cyan Peak County.

The people of the Qin Family Manor would not be of any help in a move against the Blood Demon Sect’s Inspector and his group.

Qin Yu looked into the distance with cold eyes. At the gates of Cyan Peak County Town, a merchant caravan of several dozen people slowly departed, heading toward the Qin Family Manor.

In the past, since the Qin Family sold weapons and Armor, merchant caravans would indeed occasionally travel directly to the Qin Family Manor. But this time, during their move, his father had already released word that he would be entering a period of secluded Cultivation to break through to the Qi and Blood Realm.

The Qin Family Manor was not receiving guests.

All transactions were handled by Qin De.

Insisting on heading to the Qin Family Manor at this time, combined with the intelligence he had gathered earlier, made this group’s true purpose self-evident.

With the vision of the Red-bellied Eagle, even from a kilometer away, he could see that these men were all burly and robust—clearly different from an ordinary merchant caravan. Every one of them had calluses on the webbing between their thumbs and forefingers. No matter how hard they tried to hide it, their every action still exuded the aura of bandits.

The short, plump, middle-aged Blood Demon Sect Inspector was impressively seated within the carriage at the center of the formation. Surrounding the carriage were five black-robed men wearing bamboo hats that obscured their faces.

The Red-bellied Eagle circled in the sky, watching the caravan below as it trailed them.

The Blood Demon Sect Inspector glanced up at it and paid it no mind. It was just an ordinary wild beast. The Qin Family excelled at Beast Taming, and the Red-bellied Eagle was one of their specialties. Anyone stepping into the vicinity of the Qin Family Manor would be monitored.

But what if they were discovered?

Once he reached the Qin Family Manor, he alone could effortlessly wipe out every single member.

Over the past day, he had thoroughly investigated all information regarding the Qin Family. He had thought they were some powerful branch family, but it turned out they merely relied on a few dozen War Beasts. Their Patriarch wasn’t even in the Qi and Blood Realm. The only thing worth praising was that Qin Yu.

Although his Realm was a bit weak, mastering the Micro Arrow Technique at the Body Forging Realm would earn him the title of genius anywhere. Turning him into a Blood Slave and nurturing him to the Qi and Blood Realm would make him a fine asset. Li Wanqing probably valued him precisely for his Archery and Beast Taming Talent.

For the Demon Suppression Bureau, having a pack of War Beasts skilled at tracking certainly held significant value.

”Lord Liu, what are we going to Cang Mang Mountain for? Wasn’t the legacy left behind by the Five Poison Sect’s Old Monster Youlin already taken by the Demon Suppression Bureau?”

Outside the carriage, a tall, ugly man wearing a bamboo hat, with a belly as round as a drum, questioned Inspector Liu inside. They were already in the desolate wilderness, so he didn’t have as many reservations.

”Old Monster Youlin’s legacy? That thing is indeed important, but compared to what we are about to do, it’s nothing. As long as you obediently follow orders, you won’t be shorted on your rewards.”

Inspector Liu cast a sidelong glance at the tall man.

”Lord Liu, what’s in the Cang Mang Mountain Range? Isn’t it just Demon Fiends? Which Demon Fiend are we contacting this time, or are we just here to clean up Li Tianyi’s mess?” the tall man asked with a chuckle.

They had done this kind of thing far too many times. They either recruited Old Demons and Green Forest Bandits into the sect, or they roped in powerful Demon Fiends. With the reputation of the Blood Demon Sect, as long as they offered some benefits, plenty of Demon Fiends and Old Demons would be eager to join.

Why would those cornered Old Demons of the mountains and fierce Green Forest Bandits, who were nearing the end of their lifespans with depleted Qi Blood, care about the side effects of the Human Pill Evil Technique? Eating a few people and conducting a single blood sacrifice could help them achieve a breakthrough in strength and prolong their lives. They had absolutely no psychological burden about doing such things.

As for those who refused to join, forcing a Human Pill down their throats would ensure their obedience.

The Cang Mang Mountain Range stretched for ten thousand miles and hid many Old Demons, but this particular area was too remote, and they hadn’t heard of any powerful entities existing here.

That left only the Demon Fiends.

”Handling Li Tianyi’s matter is just something we are doing in passing. Demon Fiends? We aren’t looking for any ordinary Demon Fiend this time! Instead, it’s... Hmph!

”Zhou Tu! Stop asking about such things!

”Have you forgotten the sect rules?

”If you have, I can help you remember!” Inspector Liu shouted harshly, his expression turning into one of displeasure.

The sect rules!

At the mention of the sect rules, the tall, ugly middle-aged man paled and didn’t dare to ask any further. The other black-robed men, who had leaned in and pricked up their ears to listen, all fell dead silent.

Ordinary missions didn’t matter much; even if they failed to recruit Green Forest Old Demons or Demon Fiends, they would only lose a few Contribution Points without facing any real punishment.

But if it involved the sect rules... that meant it had to be a truly major mission.

”Let’s go! You only need to know that this is a massive operation.

”The other Inspectors are also making their moves.

”When the time comes, do you think you’ll be shorted on rewards?

”Just a fraction of the share will be enough for you to achieve a breakthrough.”

Seeing that they had all quieted down, Inspector Liu smiled in satisfaction.

As long as the mission was completed, it would be a tremendous merit for him. As for these men? Aside from Zhou Tu, whose strength had reached the level of Qi and Blood like a Dragon, making him worthy of some regard, the rest were expendable. Even his four sworn brothers were nothing but cannon fodder.

Zhou Tu was originally a Government Army Captain in Bishui City. After being caught embezzling military rations, he rallied deserters to become bandits, hiding in the mountains where he ambushed and killed hundreds of traveling merchants. He even took pleasure in devouring human flesh. Hunted by the Demon Suppression Bureau as a result, he ended up joining the Blood Demon Sect.

However, his bandit nature was hard to change, and he still required plenty of discipline.

”Courting death! I didn’t want to cause trouble; I just wanted to develop in peace! Why must they always force my hand!” Qin Yu stared coldly into the distance.

The surrounding jungle RUSTLED as large swathes of the Insect Swarm appeared—Rapid Insects, Poison Burst Insects, and Profound Armor Barbarian Bears. In the sky, over a dozen Black Thorn Eagles descended.

The Blood Shadow Pythons, gripped in their scimitar-like talons, bounced as they hit the ground.

SQUELCH! SQUELCH!

Twenty Poison Burst Insects quickly dug into the earth on both sides of the road, burying themselves so they could burst from the soil and self-destruct the moment the enemy drew near. This was merely a mountain trail, barely wide enough for two carriages to travel side by side. It fell entirely within the core explosion radius of the Poison Burst Insects.

The rest of the Insect Swarm lay in ambush. At a glance, there were a full two hundred Insect Race warriors.

As he waited, a series of noises echoed from the jungle behind him. Qin Yu turned his head to see two massive armored bugs appear before him.

The new Tier Two Insect Nest unit—the cockroach!

Because of its low, streamlined body, the cockroach was slightly shorter than the Profound Armor Barbarian Bear in height, but it was much longer, reaching a length of nine meters. Six thick, sturdy limbs supported its heavy carapace. The shell was covered in enormous spikes, and a pair of blades shaped like Reaper’s Scythes were folded against its back.

In close-quarters combat, these could be rapidly deployed, serving as devastating melee weapons. They could effortlessly slice enemies to pieces. However, the cockroach’s primary attack method was not that pair of Reaper’s Scythe blades, but rather the highly corrosive, highly toxic saliva it spewed from a maw filled with sharp fangs.

Its attack range could reach hundreds of meters.

As it moved, a purple glow of Energy enveloped its body. According to the Insect Nest’s data, the cockroach was actually classified as a ranged unit, roughly equivalent to a human tank on Earth. Of course, it was equally formidable in close combat. It served as the backbone of the Insect Race’s ground units.

Looking at the arriving cockroaches, Qin Yu nodded in satisfaction.

One Profound Flood Dragon! Two cockroaches! And twenty Poison Burst Insects. These were his trump cards, along with two hundred standard Insect Race warriors. It was more than enough to deal with these people from the Blood Demon Sect.

Once all the Insect Swarm units had hidden themselves, Qin Yu didn’t have to wait long before he saw a merchant caravan approaching in the distance. The group consisted of a good fifty or sixty people.

Walking on the perimeter was a bunch of burly guards, while five carriages wobbled forward in the center. The Blood Demon Sect Inspector was inside the centermost carriage. The tall, drum-bellied giant stood guard right beside it, frequently glancing left and right.

”We’re almost there; the Qin Family Manor is just a dozen miles away. We’ll rest up at the Qin Family Manor today, and when the time comes, you can enjoy yourselves however you please!

”Cyan Peak County might be remote, but the Qin Family is a major clan after all. I’m sure they have quite a few pretty little ladies,” Zhou Tu shouted loudly to the sluggish caravan as he gazed into the distance.

Inspector Liu took a glance but said nothing.

These men were a bunch of bandits to begin with. The fact that they had held their urges back until now was already a rarity. The Qin Family only had Qin Yu who was worth valuing; the rest were completely irrelevant. The area around the Qin Family Manor was sparsely populated, so it didn’t matter if they let loose a little.

”Alright!”

”Haha, I’ve been holding back for over ten days, it’s driving me crazy!”

”Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! I can’t wait anymore.”

A wave of lecherous laughter erupted from the caravan. Zhou Tu even scratched his crotch and sniffed his hand, instantly livening up the atmosphere of the entire group.

As they walked, Zhou Tu suddenly turned his head toward the side of the road. He thought he heard some movement beneath the earth. Just as he was about to voice a warning...

In a flash.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

From the ground on both sides of the road, five Poison Burst Insects each broke through the soil almost simultaneously, launching themselves into the air.

BOOM!

Ten Poison Burst Insects detonated almost right against the carriages. The viscous, purple-black venom exploded outward in all directions like a burst of shrapnel. The highly corrosive, lethal acid splattered onto the bodies of the surrounding Blood Demon Sect members.

SIZZLE—

The sound of melting flesh echoed out.

Under the terrifying corrosion, the bandits didn’t even have time to scream before large patches of their bones were exposed. Soon, even their bones dissolved into liquid under the horrific acid.

Over fifty bandits died in an instant.

Zhou Tu’s expression changed drastically. Caught completely off guard, a fist-sized bloody hole was corroded into his body by the purple-black venom. Only then did his Qi Blood surge out to protect him.

Of the five black-robed men beside the carriage, three failed to react in time and collapsed with blood-curdling screams.

Even Inspector Liu inside the carriage was not spared. The hard carapaces from the Poison Burst Insects’ explosions instantly shredded the seemingly sturdy carriage. A massive amount of toxic liquid ate through everything, splashing quite a bit of the corrosive acid onto his body.

It sizzled loudly against his skin.

”Who is it?! Who dares to attack me?!”

Inspector Liu roared in fury as he charged out of the shattered carriage.

RUMBLE—

What greeted his eyes was an Insect Swarm swarming over the hills and fields. The Profound Flood Dragon let out a deafening roar, and two cockroaches broke through the earth, spewing massive waves of highly toxic acid from their maws...
