Chapter 736: A Lazy Person’s Lazy Excuse

Hua Baijian’s hand froze as soon as he reached into his bag.

He absolutely dared not doubt the words the man had just spoken.

”Who are you, and why are you following me?” Hua Baijian asked cautiously.

”Mr. Hua, let me reiterate, I was not following you. I just happened to overhear your phone call. I’ll ask you again, who instructed you to sell the stock rights?”

Lin Zifeng continued to inquire.

In the past, he had met Hua Baijian a few times, but given Lin Zifeng’s low status in the company, Hua Baijian wouldn’t have retained any impression of him even if they had met.

”Even if I tell you who it is, can you help me?”

Hua Baijian said, frowning.

”It’s certainly better than you facing it alone,” Lin Zifeng replied expressionlessly.

Hua Baijian lowered his head, bit his thick lips and furrowed his brows, pondering for a while before he gradually raised his head and said, ”It was Director Zhang who called just now.”

”Director Zhang? It really was those two causing mischief,” Lin Zifeng said with a snort.

”You know both of them?” Hua Baijian pushed his glasses up on his nose, somewhat skeptical.

”Mr. Hua, perhaps you have forgotten me over these days. I am the young man you entrusted to the special care of the president of Yunhai University, Lin Zifeng, and also the personal bodyguard of President Nangong.”

Nangong Bing had always publicly claimed that her relationship with Lin Zifeng was merely that of a bodyguard and employer.

Therefore, Lin Zifeng also did not reveal the true nature of their current relationship to Hua Baijian.

”You are Mr. Lin?!”

Hua Baijian’s face showed shock and even more so, excitement.

Lin Zifeng waved his hand and laughed, ”Mr. Hua, you might as well call me Lin the Bodyguard. I am more accustomed to that.”

”No, no, no! Mr. Lin, you are too modest. I have often heard Huahua telling me about your exploits, which seemed almost unbelievable at first. Seeing Mr. Lin with my own eyes today, you are indeed extraordinary.”

As he said the word ’extraordinary’, Hua Baijian’s mouth twitched noticeably.

Even though he was a seasoned businessman who had seen many talented young men, he still politely praised someone like Lin Zifeng, whose appearance and attire were unremarkable.

However, it was true that his daughter Huahua praised Lin Zifeng’s exploits in front of him.

What’s more, Hua Baijian was no fool. Despite the man in front of him appearing ordinary, from the conversation they had just had, Hua Baijian harbored not the slightest doubt.

”Oh?! Miss Hua mentioned me?” Lin Zifeng speculated with a mix of surprise and amusement. The little princess usually turned up her nose at him, yet she had praised him in front of her father. This was indeed a fresh development.

Hua Baijian, also a clever man, immediately furrowed his heavy, broad brows and said, ”To be honest, recently there has been a lot of turmoil in the company because of Director Zhang and Director Zheng. You’re probably aware of this, so I won’t go into details. The call just now from Director Zhang was indeed about buying the remaining five percent of the stock rights I hold.”

”But you didn’t agree, right?” Lin Zifeng said, squinting and smiling.

”Right, these five percent were allocated when Tianyu was established. Now that Bingbing’s position in the company grows weaker day by day, everyone on the board is eyeing her position, and that’s what I’m most worried about.”

”Understood, how would you like me to help you best?” Lin Zifeng asked bluntly.

”Mr. Lin, are you really willing to help me?”

Hua Baijian stared, knowing well that there’s no such thing as a free lunch in the world, a fact he understood better than anyone.

”Since Director Zhang has already approached you about the issue of stock ownership, I think he will not let the matter rest and may use many methods to force you to sell your shares. So, in your current situation, it doesn’t matter to you, but your daughter might be in danger. Am I right, Mr. Hua?”

Lin Zifeng analyzed the situation before and after, and Hua Baijian’s face got paler the more he listened.

Just now on the phone, Director Zhang had already begun to threaten him.

In this world, the only person who could threaten him was his daughter, Hua Buqi!

”Mr. Lin, what do you mean?”

”I can protect your daughter’s safety, but you’ll need to help me with something,” Lin Zifeng said, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and tossing one to Hua Baijian.

The two men sat in front of the car and lit their cigarettes together.

Hua Baijian pushed his glasses up, thought through the whole situation again, and asked, ”What kind of help do you need from me?”

The man’s handsome face became increasingly somber due to the corporate crisis.

”Sell all the remaining shares you hold to Nangong Bing. I think this should not be too difficult, considering Nangong Bing is Miss Hua’s cousin, and you share blood relations. It’s much better than letting outside individuals benefit from it, right?”

Lin Zifeng had long known that Hua Baijian was still holding 5% of the shares.

If this 5% of the shares were actually to fall into the hands of Zhang Zheng, the 50% controlled by Nangong Bing might not necessarily secure control over Tianyu’s board powers.

However, Lin Zifeng had no idea that Zhang Zheng had already sold their shares to Ye Xiangtian.

”Mr. Hua, what do you think?”

Lin Zifeng repeated.

”Alright, but Mr. Lin, please ensure my daughter’s safety. She’s all the family I have left in this life,” agreed Hua Baijian after hesitating for a moment and working through the calculations in his head again. If he didn’t let go of his 5% shares, Director Zhang would definitely scheme against him behind his back.

Instead of that, it might be better to sell all the shares to Nangong Bing—a rather good choice indeed.

”Rest assured, if I, Lin Zifeng, have promised something, I will absolutely not let you down.” Lin Zifeng stepped forward, gave a cheery pat on Hua Baijian’s shoulder, and then turned and walked toward the elevator entrance.

Hua Baijian was left puzzled as to why this guy wanted to help Nangong Bing.

The duties of a bodyguard seemed to only be about protecting the safety of the employer, yet he even meddled in internal company affairs.

...

”Knock, knock, knock.”

”Come in.”

Inside the CEO’s office, Nangong Bing was still calmly handling documents on her computer. Seeing Lin Zifeng enter with a grin, she did not show him any special consideration.

Frowning, she asked, ”Lin Zifeng, have nothing to do today?”

”There’s always work to be done, but a bit of relaxation is necessary to maintain a good spirit for work,” Lin Zifeng shrugged indifferently with a smile.

”Oh? From your tone, it seems like a lazy person is finding excuses for laziness?” retorted Nangong Bing with a hum, ”Come on, you rarely come up here usually. Is there something you want to discuss with me today?”

”Hehe, my dear Bingbing is so clever, hitting the nail right on the head with what her husband wants to say. Brilliant, truly brilliant!”

He gave a thumbs up and flattered her.

Indeed, this flattery seemed to have genuinely pleased someone.
