Everyone in the Group is a Main Character, Except Me Who's the Villain

185: Chapter 185 Gu Qinghe is the Achilles’ heelBeauties are often trouble; pretty women always attract more attention from men.

Gu Qinghe was undoubtedly a beauty. Being someone who commuted alone for a long time, of course she had prepared some protective measures.

But this time, there were four opponents. Two of them defended in time and weren’t hit by the pepper spray. Upon receiving the order, they immediately gave chase.

Gu Qinghe ran for her life, with the two men hot on her heels. Fortunately, the Protagonist’s luck came into play at this moment.

It was the weekend. Gu Bai was out for a night run to maintain his strong physique. The two pursuers hadn’t chased far before they ran into him on his way back.

Although he was a Top Student-type Protagonist with no real combat skills, he was still a grown man. Coupled with the two thugs having guilty consciences, he easily picked up a brick from the roadside and scared them off.

”So you’re Gu Bai? Just you wait!!”

The two thugs threw out a threat before quickly fleeing. Gu Bai tossed aside the brick he had picked up and steadied his sister.

”Sis, are you okay??”

”I’m... I’m fine...” Gu Qinghe gasped for breath, her chest heaving rapidly.

Gu Bai stared in the direction the two had left, grinding his teeth in anger. ”These guys are getting more and more brazen, daring to cause trouble in broad daylight.”

No matter how chaotic the public security in this world was, the usual riff-raff only dared to come out after 11 PM. Right now, it was just past 7 in the evening.

”Now’s not the time for that. Go help me get my shoes back first...” Gu Qinghe said quickly.

The siblings had grown up poor. This pair of high heels was something she had specifically bought for work, costing over a thousand yuan.

Without time to think, Gu Bai, guided by his sister, retrieved the pair of high heels.

”Sis, have some water to calm your nerves!”

Back in their simple rented room, Gu Bai immediately handed her a cup of warm water. Gu Qinghe took a sip and finally managed to steady her emotions a bit.

”Xiao Bai, tell me honestly, have you offended someone at school??” Holding the cup, Gu Qinghe suddenly asked.

She wasn’t the foolish type who kept her mouth shut and bottled everything up inside.

Especially after the last trip to Chengdu, where Gu Bai had Fang Ming step in to help her out of danger, she knew Gu Bai had grown up. He didn’t need her to shoulder everything alone anymore.

How clever was Gu Bai? In an instant, he understood why his sister was asking this.

”Offended someone?? Were those thugs just now targeting me??”

”Hmm, that’s what they said...”

Gu Qinghe didn’t hide anything, recounting the whole incident. Gu Bai listened, his anger boiling over, and a person instantly came to mind.

Damn it, that guy actually dared to lay a hand on his sister? He’s asking for death!!

...

The next day, Sunday afternoon, at Yangcheng No. 3 High School.

The sunlight wasn’t as scorching as in July or August. Several boys in basketball jerseys were running on the court. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the ground mixed with shouts, occasionally punctuated by the dull thud of a ball hitting the metal backboard.

A few girls sat on the steps by the court, holding bottles of mineral water, but their eyes were fixed on the tallest figure on the court.

Song Minghui had just sunk a three-pointer. As he landed, the hem of his jersey lifted slightly, revealing the outline of his abs. The girls by the court let out low gasps of admiration. He glanced their way, a smirk playing on his lips, then caught a pass from a teammate, dribbled, and shot.

Thump. The ball hit the rim—another three-pointer.

”Young Master Song’s really on fire today.”

”Of course. The city league is next week. He’s gotta practice, right?”

”I heard people from sports universities have already made contact. With Young Master Song’s skills, a guaranteed admission is a sure thing.”

As they were chatting, a figure walked over from the edge of the field, passing through the watching girls and stepping directly onto the court.

Gu Bai!

He was wearing his school uniform, a book still clutched in his hand. His face showed no particular expression, but his eyes were fixed directly on Song Minghui, staring so intently that the other players nearby involuntarily stopped.

”Song Minghui.”

Gu Bai came to a stop just outside the court, his voice full and resonant, silencing the entire basketball court.

Song Minghui held the ball, turned his head, and upon seeing it was Gu Bai, the smile on his lips slowly widened, eventually turning into a mocking grin.

”Well, if it isn’t our Top Student?” He tossed the ball to a teammate beside him, clapped his hands, and sauntered over. ”What’s up? Not reading anymore? Or have you had enough of books and want to come out for some exercise?”

Gu Bai didn’t respond to his taunt. He just kept staring at him and asked, word by word, ”Were those thugs yesterday sent by you?”

”Thugs? What thugs?”

Song Minghui paused for a moment, then smiled and spread his hands, turning to look at his teammates behind him. ”Did you guys hear that? Our Top Student here is talking about some thugs?”

”Hahaha!!~”

The guys behind him burst into laughter, the sound echoing across the empty basketball court.

Song Minghui looked back at Gu Bai, the smile slowly fading from his face.

”Gu Bai, you need evidence when you make accusations.” He took half a step forward, towering nearly a head taller than Gu Bai, looking down at him. ”You shouldn’t say things without proof. What if it gets out that I, Song Minghui, hired people to bully you... Tsk, that wouldn’t be good for anyone, right?”

Gu Bai clenched his fists, staring at Song Minghui’s sunny, handsome face, now filled with mockery and provocation. His voice carried a chilling tone.

”Song Minghui, I’m warning you. If you have a problem, come at me. But if you dare touch my sister, don’t blame me for what happens.”

The basketball court fell silent for two seconds. Song Minghui stared at Gu Bai, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. He clearly hadn’t expected this Top Student, who usually kept his head down reading and avoided everyone—this socially anxious academic—to dare speak to him like this.

”What happens to me?? What are you going to do to me?? With your top grades??”

”I admit your grades are excellent. The teachers and the school think highly of you. But in this world, what’s the use of just good grades? After graduation, you’ll still end up working for bosses like my dad, won’t you?”

Song Minghui withdrew his hand, shoved it into his pocket, tilted his head, and sneered at Gu Bai. ”And me?? Even if I don’t study, I’ll still be the young master of the Song family in the future. What do you have to compare with me? Your sister who works herself to death in some crappy company?”

”You...”

”Don’t get angry. I’m just stating facts.”

Song Minghui cut him off disdainfully, then added in a voice only the two of them could hear, ”If you kneel down and kowtow to apologize, I might consider letting your sister off the hook. Otherwise...”

”Go to hell...” Hearing the implied admission, Gu Bai flew into a rage and threw a punch directly at Song Minghui’s face.

Thud!

Gu Qinghe was his untouchable. This Song Minghui targeting Gu Qinghe was crossing his bottom line.

Unfortunately, due to the difference in height and build, what Gu Bai thought was a powerful punch didn’t inflict much damage on Song Minghui.

It only snapped his head to the side and made him stagger slightly.

Gu Bai tried to throw a second punch, but Song Minghui had already recovered. Seeing Gu Bai throw the first punch, his teammates immediately rushed over to pull them apart.

Insults, fighting, attempts to break it up—the entire basketball court quickly descended into chaos.
