Everyone in the Group is a Main Character, Except Me Who's the Villain

155: It’s time to quit and go solo.Unless it was absolutely necessary, Fang Ming did not want to expose himself; even being suspected was better than direct exposure.

”Mr. Fang, please wait!”

Seeing Fang Ming pack his things and prepare to leave, Mu Zhengyang snapped out of it and hurriedly stepped forward. ”The old Master... what exactly happened? It wasn’t poisoning, and the hospital couldn’t find the cause. Why would he suddenly collapse?”

This was the strangest part to him. Despite his vast experience, he couldn’t figure out the reason.

Beside him, Mu Qingxue also stepped forward, her face filled with curiosity.

Fang Ming stopped and, without wasting time, said straightforwardly,

”It wasn’t poison; it was a Gu. To be precise, a type of Gu called ’Heart-Eroding’.”

”Gu?” Both father and daughter were stunned.

To them, this word only existed in novels and rumors; they had never seen it in reality.

”Yes.” Fang Ming nodded and explained, ”This Gu insect is very special. Once planted, it silently sneaks near the heart’s meridians, attaches itself to them, and disguises itself as part of the body. It devours the host’s vitality but isn’t immediately fatal, nor does it leave any conventional toxins or physical damage. That’s why modern equipment can’t detect anything abnormal.”

”I don’t know when the old Master was infected, but it definitely wasn’t at the banquet. So... you’d better think carefully if the old Master has come into contact with any unusual people or... eaten or used anything special in the past few days.”

Hearing Fang Ming’s words, Mu Zhengyang’s expression instantly turned extremely grim.

The old Master lived in seclusion, and only a few people could get close to him... Could it be that another servant had been bribed by the Lu Family?

”Then... was it the Lu Family who planted the Gu? And what’s the situation with the Gu insect now?” Mu Qingxue asked impatiently!

”I can tell you clearly that the person who planted the Gu is that lean man next to Wu Mingyuan. This type of Gu wouldn’t be so restless without the mother insect nearby. Wu Mingyuan saying he could cure it also confirms this.”

”As for the Gu insect? It has already been shattered and decomposed by my True Qi. The vitality it devoured will be fed back to the old Master over time...”

Upon hearing Fang Ming’s answer, Mu Zhengyang took a deep breath, and the way he looked at Fang Ming completely changed.

From the initial suspicion and scrutiny to the shock just now, it had now turned into deep awe and gratitude.

”Mr. Fang... oh, no, Brother Fang!” Mu Zhengyang solemnly cupped his fists, his tone sincere. ”Great kindness needs no words of thanks. Regarding the old Master’s matter and how to cooperate in the future, our Mu Family will follow your arrangements. Not a single word of today’s events will be leaked by anyone in the Mu Family!”

Mu Qingxue also nodded vigorously. Looking at Fang Ming, besides gratitude, there was an indescribable sense of peace of mind.

The person sent by Mr. Ming... truly possessed the power to turn the tide!

Fang Ming waved his hand, signaling them not to be overly formal. ”This matter started because of me, so it’s only right that I stepped in. As for the old Master, you just need to find absolutely trustworthy medical staff to watch over him and observe the situation. I’ll head back first. If there’s anything unusual or if you find any clues, contact me promptly.”

”Alright, sorry to trouble you.” Mu Qingxue nodded solemnly.

Fang Ming said nothing more. He gave Mu Qingxue a slight nod, then turned to open the ward door. Under Hong Mei’s lead, he walked quickly toward the fire escape and disappeared around the corner of the stairs.

Inside the ward, silence returned.

There was only the ’beep-beep’ of the monitoring equipment and the sound of Mu Qingshan’s steady breathing on the hospital bed.

Mu Zhengyang and Mu Qingxue looked at each other, both seeing the relief of having survived a disaster and a cold, sharp glint in each other’s eyes.

The old Master was almost killed by such a sinister method... this debt must be settled!

”Xiaoxue!” Mu Zhengyang’s voice was cold. ”From today until the news of your grandfather’s critical condition is lifted, everyone who can get close to him—including household servants, drivers, and health doctors—must be re-screened. Not a single one can be missed!”

Mu Qingxue nodded heavily. ”I know. I’ll have Hong Mei arrange a few absolutely reliable people to guard this place twenty-four hours a day. As for the outside... we’ll do as Mr. Fang said: cry when we should cry, panic when we should panic, and play the part to the fullest.”

”Wait a minute...” Mu Qingxue suddenly thought of something. ”Just now, Mr. Fang said the matter started because of him??”

...Tracing back to the source, this matter indeed started because of Fang Ming. If he hadn’t placed Ye Nuannuan into Yunlan International, the Lu Family wouldn’t have targeted the Mu Family.

Without the Lu Family’s targeting, Mu Qingshan wouldn’t have ended up like this.

However, even for the Yanjing Lu Family, the number of extraordinary individuals they could contact was limited.

The assassins and the matter with Mu Zewu could only be considered warnings to the Mu Family; that fellow who could use the Heart-Eroding Gu was the real killing move.

With Fang Ming’s current abilities, he could fully handle it.

”Brother Fang Ming!”

In the hospital’s first-floor lobby, the Mu Family’s relatives, friends, and confidants were all there.

After Fang Ming came down from the fire escape, he pretended to have gone to the restroom. Ye Nuannuan immediately came up to meet him.

Fang Ming gently patted her hand to comfort her.

He was just a peripheral figure and had stayed upstairs for ten minutes at most. Aside from Ye Nuannuan, it was hard for anyone to notice him.

Taking Ye Nuannuan to the rest area next to the hospital to sit down, Fang Ming’s brain began to work rapidly.

”My task is to monitor who Mu Qingxue contacts tonight. Given Qin Xiao’s cautiousness, the people sent to keep watch definitely aren’t just me. Even if they aren’t as close as I am, there must be some on the perimeter!”

”If that Master isn’t discovered tonight, and Mu Qingshan eventually recovers, the ten minutes I just disappeared for will become a point of suspicion for Qin Xiao.”

”It seems it’s time to resign and go solo.” Fang Ming stretched his body comfortably.

After joining the Chat Group, he chose to stay by Qin Xiao’s side mainly because he wanted first-hand intelligence on the Villain, but the biggest reason was his own lack of strength.

If he left Qin Xiao and still wanted to protect Chu Yao in secret, there was a high probability he’d be discovered by Qin Xiao and then sent to the bottom of a river.

Now, his wings were fully grown, and he had plenty of money. Even if he left Qin Xiao, he could protect Chu Yao very well.

As for Ye Nuannuan?? She was a member of the Chat Group.

Next, he just needed to have her live with him and get her a Storage Ring with a few guns inside. No matter how powerful Qin Xiao was, he wouldn’t have a chance to strike.

Ding-dong!

While Fang Ming was lost in thought, a message suddenly popped up in the Chat Group.

【Frontier God of War (Private Chat)】: ”Brother Fang, I’ve finished handling my affairs. Are you home?”

Seeing this message from Ye Tian, Fang Ming was first stunned, then his eyes lit up.

Is someone really sending a pillow just as I’m getting sleepy?

Although he planned to resign, if he could do so without raising Qin Xiao’s suspicions, why not??

【Nameless Guide (Private Chat)】: ”I’m at the city hospital. You shouldn’t be afraid of people seeing photos of your subordinates wearing masks, right?”

【Frontier God of War (Private Chat)】: ”What’s wrong?”

【Nameless Guide (Private Chat)】: ”I have something I need your help with...”

Fang Ming explained the situation.

Half an hour later, Vermilion Bird appeared at the city hospital.

Vermilion Bird was an orphan with no ties, so it didn’t matter even if her whereabouts were known.

Under the arrangement of Fang Ming and Mu Qingxue, she went to the hospital’s VIP floor and stayed in Mu Qingshan’s ward for about twenty minutes.

During this time, photos of her wearing a mask and looking heroic appeared in the hands of Qin Xiao and Wu Mingyuan.

”How can the person who made the Lu Family suffer and repeatedly ruined my plans be a woman?”
