Chapter 279: Chapter 279: The Shen Family Eating Together

”Little Feng, you’re here, have a seat, have a seat, dinner will be ready in no time!”

Seeing Xiao Yifeng’s arrival, Shen Yunzhang appeared very happy and quickly spoke.

”Old Master Shen, you’re too polite!”

Xiao Yifeng couldn’t help saying as he sat down next to Shen Yunzhang.

”Come, try the Tieguanyin tea I’ve brewed and see what you think?”

Shen Yunzhang handed a cup of tea, which was emanating a rich aroma, to Xiao Yifeng.

After taking a gentle sip, Xiao Yifeng revealed an expression of enjoyment and said, ”The tea’s aroma is rich and fragrant, excellent tea, excellent tea!”

”Haha, it seems that Little Feng, you also appreciate good tea!”

Shen Yunzhang laughed heartily.

”Old Master Shen overpraises me. I don’t know much about tea myself; it’s just that my master likes to drink tea and understands it well!” Xiao Yifeng said with a smile.

Upon hearing Xiao Yifeng mention his master, Shen Yunzhang’s eyes narrowed slightly, showing a look of interest, ”With your superb medical skills, Little Feng, your master must also be a great healer. May I ask who this remarkable person is?”

”My master has always lived reclusively in the deep mountains, never venturing out, and does not have a well-known name. I’m afraid that even if I told you, Old Master Shen, you wouldn’t recognize it!”

Xiao Yifeng said indifferently.

”In that case, let’s leave it at that. However, has that Qii Zhenghua been bothering you again?”

”Just yesterday, he sent someone named King Kong to deal with me!” Xiao Yifeng said calmly.

”King Kong!”

Hearing this name, the middle-aged man standing next to Shen Yunzhang’s pupils contracted, murmuring to himself.

”It looks like this King Kong didn’t do much to you,” Shen Yunzhang said.

”I killed him, and I had his body sent back to that old man!”

Surprise flickered in both Shen Yunzhang and Shen Yunfeng’s eyes, while the middle-aged man’s gaze shimmered faintly.

”Grandfather, father, dinner is ready.”

At that moment, Shen Yuting walked out of the kitchen, dressed in a long white dress, carrying two dishes to the nearby dining table before coming into the living room.

”What are you doing here?”

When Shen Yuting came into the living room and saw Xiao Yifeng, her expression froze, revealing a look of surprise.

Xiao Yifeng looked at Shen Yuting, nodded slightly, and smiled faintly.

”What, Yuting, do you two know each other?”

Shen Yunzhang’s face also carried a look of surprise as he looked at them.

”Old Master Shen, I’ve met Miss Shen once before at Tianhai University!” Xiao Yifeng said.

”So it is, that’s even better,” Shen Yunzhang smiled.

”Grandpa, is he the one who saved you before, the benefactor?”

Shen Yuting’s gaze shifted towards Xiao Yifeng with a touch of amazement.

”Yes, Yuting, Little Feng is indeed the benefactor who saved me before,” Shen Yunzhang nodded.

”Miss Shen, allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Xiao Yifeng.”

Xiao Yifeng stood up, extended his hand, and looked at Shen Yuting with a smile. She hesitated for a moment, then somewhat embarrassedly reached out her right hand.

”Hello, my name is Shen Yuting. Thank you for saving my grandfather.”

”No need to be polite!” Xiao Yifeng said as he took Shen Yuting’s hand.

These really are a pair of beautiful hands, but Xiao Yifeng didn’t take advantage of the situation. He gently gripped them and then released them soon after.

However, Shen Yuting’s face turned slightly red. It seemed that she had never had any physical contact with boys before, very innocent, so even shaking hands with Xiao Yifeng made her blush.

This made Xiao Yifeng feel quite amused. It appeared he was the first one to have touched the hand of this beautiful school flower.

”Alright, no need to stand around like that. Let’s go, it’s time to eat!”

Shen Yunfeng spoke up, and everyone started walking towards the dining table.

”Mr. Xiao, you’re here. Come and try the dishes I made to see if they suit your taste.”

At that moment, Lady Shen, Mei Fangting, wearing an apron, came over with a bowl of fish soup and placed it on the table.

”Auntie, from now on you can just call me Little Feng. Calling me ’mister’ makes me feel a bit old. I’ll just call you auntie, too.”

Xiao Yifeng said with a smile.

”Alright then, Little Feng it is. Try the dishes I made and tell me what you think.”

”Auntie, the dishes you’ve made look and smell as good as those prepared by top chefs.”

”You sure know how to compliment someone. Sit down; there are a few more dishes in the kitchen that I need to bring out.”

Mei Fangting was all smiles.

”Mom, let me help you!” Shen Yuting said, following her mother into the kitchen.

”Come on, Little Feng, do you drink? Try some of my treasured Erguotou!”

Shen Yunzhang took out a bottle of aged Erguotou and looked at Xiao Yifeng.

”I’ve never actually had Erguotou before. Let’s give it a try!”

Shen Yunzhang then poured Xiao Yifeng a glass, and after taking a sip, a fiery sensation filled his mouth, traveling down his throat into his belly, spreading a burning feeling throughout his body.

Xiao Yifeng exhaled a breath of warm air, saying, ”This liquor is really strong!”

”Strong liquor is the way to go for a real kick!”

Shen Yunzhang laughed and downed his cup, his face revealing an expression of enjoyment.

Then Xiao Yifeng and the Shen family started to eat amidst laughter and conversation. Because of this meal, he became much closer to the Shen family, especially Shen Yunzhang, with whom he enjoyed a particularly warm conversation.

”Little Feng, if it weren’t for you and Yuting each having your own engagement, I’d really like to have you as my grandson-in-law!”

After drinking another cup of liquor, Shen Yunzhang lamented.

Hearing Shen Yunzhang’s words, Xiao Yifeng’s expression flashed with surprise. Shen Yuting also had an engagement, and upon hearing her grandfather’s words, her eyes revealed a complex and sorrowful look.

”Old Master Shen, I hadn’t realized Miss Shen also had a fiancé!” Xiao Yifeng casually remarked while eating a bite.

”Hmm, decades ago, I was injured in a battle and almost died. I was fortunate to be saved by someone, and that person happened to be the current commander of Yanjing Military District, Yaan Jianye. To repay his kindness, I promised the engagement between Yuting and his grandson.”

Shen Yunzhang explained.

”Grandpa, I’ve finished eating. You all keep eating!”

Shen Yuting suddenly said, getting up and leaving.

”Dad, Yuting has always been very opposed to this engagement. She has never met the Young Master Yanjia, and there is no romantic feeling between them, yet she is expected to marry him. This is really...”

Mei Fangting looked somewhat helpless and shook her head.

”I know I was a bit rash in making this decision without considering Yuting’s feelings. But now that the engagement is set, even if I wanted to call it off, it wouldn’t be possible.”

”It would be like slapping the Yanjia family in the face. With Yaan Jianye’s temper, he would definitely be furious. Now that I’m retired, although I still have some influence in the military, I’m no match for him. Provoking him would put the whole Shen family in danger.”

Shen Yunzhang’s face was filled with complex emotions as he sighed softly.
